The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today launched a new voter education and grassroots campaign in Illinois’ 10th congressional district, highlighting Brad Schneider’s support for policies that will hurt Illinois job creators. The new ad features Darlene Miller, the U.S. Chamber’s 2008 Small Business of the Year winner, urging Chicago voters to know where their candidates stand on policies that will advance job growth and investment. This launch is part of the Chamber’s largest voter education campaign in its 100-year history to elect pro-business candidates to Congress.
“Voters need to know where their candidates stand on issues that promote free enterprise,” said Rob Engstrom, the U.S. Chamber’s senior vice president and national political director. “Unfortunately, Brad Schneider instead supports policies that will stifle growth and job creation in Illinois’ 10th district and across the country. He supports government-mandated health care that will raise taxes and hurt job growth. With small businesses facing prolonged uncertainty, tax hikes are last thing they can afford, let alone elected officials who support them.”

Despite his claims to the contrary, congressional candidate Brad Schneider’s public stance on extending the Bush-era tax cuts has changed since the Democratic primary.
In a recent Daily Herald candidate questionnaire, Schneider — who’s running against incumbent Republican Robert Dold for the suburban 10th District seat — said he supports extending at least some of those tax cuts.
“I have continuously said that, at the very minimum, the Bush tax cuts for income under $250,000 should be extended,” Schneider, of Deerfield, said.
Except he hasn’t.
When the Daily Herald asked Schneider about the tax cuts ahead of the March primary, he said nothing about extending them.

Brad Schneider, of Deerfield, boasts “more trips to Israel than he can count” and past work in a kibbutz as he challenges Dold in a newly drawn, mAore Democratic-leaning 10th District. Dold, who has molded himself in the image of Kirk, is well-respected for his work on behalf of Israel over his 20 months in office, including pushing for tougher Iran sanctions and calling for fully funding the nation’s security commitment to Israel.

Democrats have won most of the suburban swing districts where $250k is considered just getting by, but the 10th is one of them they haven’t and schneider is walking a really really fine line with this.
His “bona fides” on Israel are also highly highly questionable. Writing a few checks up there and attending a few cocktail receptions doesn’t make you Mark Kirk on Israel and 10th district republicans have used israel more effectively than any other group in any other district as a way to win over votes for kirk and now dold that in every other seat the gop loses. There are pictures of schneiders trips to Israel on facebook, and it’s basically dads from northbrook visiting museums in Israel talking about where they’re going to dinner that night.

Brad Schneider has such a long history with AIPAC and other Jewish organizations, that your criticism doesn’t make sense. In addition, the guy belongs to several synagogues and his family travels to Israel and speaks fluent Hebrew. So, this is not a photo opportunity for Schneider. It’s the real deal.

I don’t know if that’s the case, but it beats getting loaded, stripping down and cannon-balling into the Sea of Galilee, as some crazy Congressional party animals.
The ad, itself, is weak. Sorry, Darleen, like most people, you really don’t come across as genuine in a scripted TV spot.
And that district is a little more sophisticated. They’re shocked when people don’t have health insurance. And they know they’re going to pay some taxes. Not exactly a revelation (and certainly not Revelation).

Disagree on policy with Brad all you want, but attempting to question his credentials and personal commitment on Israel is akin to Swift Boating IMHO.

As a former dem its obvious Brad is tanking. I am a self described independent. I will vote for Dold and Vote for Obama. Why? Because I think before I vote. Brad is a talking head of the proverbial radical left. I split my ticket, and I dont want someone who is a figurehead for pelosi representing the 10th.

Scott: I once asked my hard scrabble MO boss whether the phrase “call a spade a spade” was referring to gardening equipment or if that was racist and I never got it. She was of the opinion that it was the latter, so I have stopped using it. IN NOW WAY am I trying to call you a racist or think anything whatsoever about it, just passing along something that happened relatively recently.

Can we put away the lunacy that if you’re an American and you don’t smooch the kaboose of the current Likud leader or Israeli PM on all things, all the time, every minute, that you’re somehow not a supporter of Israel?
Are we to believe a Democratic congressional candidate from Deerfield is somehow soft on Israel?
Blow my mind. Live long enough, and you’ll see everything.
Without the support of the American people, Israel never would have existed, and likely would have been driven into the sea in 1948 or 1973. That was some heavy lifting we did, when Europe was shifting around looking for its car keys and checkbook.
Netahnyahu is Prime Minister, but he’s out on a limb (looking to the next election) sticking his nose into the presidential election. He’s out on a limb in Israel, too.
It’s absurd to suggest that American policy on Israel is nothing more than a complete commitment to it’s defense, and a guarantee that Iran will not get a crude, POS, not even-as-good-as-Hiroshima nuclear weapon.
We’re not talking containment, we’re talking prevention. That’s why we’ve been engaged in a massive sabotage effort in Iran, crippling their computers.
That’s why we’ve supported with intelligence and logistics the whacking of Iranians involved in the nuclear program.
It’s been in all of the papers.

To the article: I’m much more concerned about the commitment of a candidate to the people of his/her district and America as a whole than I am about his/her commitment to Israel. As a rule, whenever someone tries to tell me how much they support a foreign nation, I start checking out their opponent to make sure I can stomach supporting the opponent.

David from Deerfield and Scott: I’m sorry, but this cycle is going to totally suck for people like you. You have a whole cadre of freshman incumbents (Dolt, Walsh, Schilling) who are going to get their heads handed to them by reasonable center-left Democrats. Schneider a darling of the radical left? Please. My guy - Ilya - would have welcomed that moniker, but that’s not who Brad is. Cheri was slow to respond to the RNCC’s smear ad - but she got it done. Tammy is going to wipe the floor with he ridiculous wack job opponent.
Plus, at the top of your ticket, you have a rich guy from Massachusetts who clearly is awkwardly uncomfortable around ordinary Americans and who isn’t even trusted by huge swaths of his own party. We made that mistake in 2004. Spoiler Alert: It doesn’t work out well.
So I understand your frustration. Why don’t you just take a breath and tool up for the Rutherford v. Schock gubernatorial prelims in advance of 2014, which will start in early January. In the meantime, we feel your pain.
