  1. The takeaway I got from this was that Bob Dold’s own mom didn’t believe him when he told her what he’d do as congressman.

“Sure, I didn’t believe my own son without some 3rd party validation, but you voters should just go ahead and believe him anyway.”

  2. I hate family member ads. I mean, are we supposed to be convinced about a candidate because their mom — or partner, or kids — support that person?

I found this ad pretty cheesy, and pretty uncompelling.

  4. Cute.
She isn’t a scared senior is she?

  5. Privatizing Social Security? Where did that come from? I haven’t heard anyone talk about that since Lehman went down.

  6. That web page they pointed to was the home page between Romney’s tax plan fact check and Factcheck’s Whoppers of 2012 Early Edition. If I were to guess that rubber stamp “False” was referring to Romney’s tax plan claims. If it was referring to the 2012 Whoppers, Medicare was not even discussed in that Whopper article.

I did a search on Fackcheck for “Bob Dold”. The only article to come up was about the false GOP claims about the Affordable Care Act. The mention of Bob Dold was in reference to a US Chamber of Commerce ad run for Bob Dold among other Republicans.

I am skeptical of Bob Dold and his mother.

  7. Not only does he have his mom’s vote, he has his mom’s money. That’s the beauty of being a Kenilworth Republican who goes into his family’s successful business. You never have to worry about paying the mortgage and you can run for office as a “small business owner.”

  8. EVERYBODY loves Mom’s, eh?

And Apple Pie, yada, yada, yada.

  9. I have met Mrs. Dold a few times…the ad captures her personality very well. Let’s hope her son wins!!

  10. It’s a nice ad, I assume mom’s a Democrat?

    If not, shameless exploitation.

  11. I can think of a lot of reasons that would make me vote for someone, liking their mother is not one of them.

The fact that Dold did vote for the Ryan budgets is a great reason to vote for Schneider.

  12. This is very similar to the Sean Duffey ad in Wisconsin. Is it the same firm that did the ad?

Comment by John Wednesday, Oct 10, 12 @ 6:55 pm

  13. This is literally one of the political ads I’ve ever seen. I don’t know much about Dold, but seems like Schneider is refusing to release his taxes. Not to mention I hear he supports J Street. Trib and Herald both say Dold’s a good, solid moderate so he has my vote!

  14. “Let’s hope her son wins!!”

Yes, because “Chicago” has met her a few time and this captures her personality very well.

    Sheesh.

  15. I’m pulling for Dold, but I hate this commercial. Of course your mother is going to vote vote you, and the fact that your mother had to fact check you is upsetting. Plus, as I said last week, any ad that has to “attack the attack ad” is just reinforcing the original attack ad.

Would be better and more emotional if Mom just spoke into the camera and listed her son’s record of being bi-partisan, supporting social security, and reforming Medicare to make sure that it is still around for her grandchildren.
