  1. Let me see if I understand the timing on the Governor’s education funding plan. Meeks is out of the race. What if the Governor’s estimate for the sale or lease of the lottery only raises 6 billion instead of the “projected” 10 billion? What then? The plan falls apart, it’s too late for Meeks to enter thae race, and Blagojevich can say, “Well, I tried.”

I can’t believe Meeks is buying this.

  2. I can believe it.That is the kind of politican he is A Blago clone.

  3. Why would Meeks put his reputation on the line and appear to be bought out so easily? Makes him look like any other user of the system and a rookie. If he wants to be taken serious go for the Gov position even if he gets blown out. Now he is just another person back in the crowd. Wonder if he got some “clout” or “support” out of this for himself.

As for the Gov math. I want a guaranteed 16% return on my investment too. If I talked about financial projects like this with a banker, they would rightly show me to the door, empty handed. My college econ profs must just shake their heads when they read these kinds of ideas.

  4. About all I can say is WOW! I see a lot of rhetoric but no substance yet. Governor, put your idea in bill form for all to see and disseminate. If this truly is a great idea don’t wait until after the election to give the world the true details, call a special session. Put your money or lottery ticket where your mouth is. It’s all about the kid’s right? Why must Illinois wait? Prove to the world that this is not a shell game. Prove to the world that you didn’t bail Meeks out with another Keno/Thompson Center/”Rock the World Ethics” fantasy. (Yes, this is a Meeks Bailout more than a Gov. buy-off)

Governor, you have proven you have the power to order the legislature to stay in Springfield. Don’t hide behind the fact that this idea of yours cannot be considered until after the election when the veto session begins. Heck how many days did your All Kids legislation take to be introduced, voted on, and signed into law? Three weeks? Prove Topinka wrong that you didn’t concoct this idea in 12 hours at the kitchen table.

  5. Trust me zatoichi a lot of Chicago people are dumb enough to believe it.Emil jones is already panting like a dog in heat.the big question is.What happens when Iliinois’s assets are gone and we can no longer borrow? How many of these Democrats will be willing to take the blame.

  6. I thought Republicans favored privatization of government entities and Democrats opposed. Would someone explain why the party positions are reversed here, with Dems beating the drum for privatization and Repubs dragging their feet??

  7. I think a better move for Meeks would have been to allow Judy Baar Topinka an opportunity to dialogue with him on his education concerns. Meeks message was solid. The method did not have to be running for Governor. The facts remain about Blagojevich being bad for the state of Illinois. Blago offering a none funded mandate doesn’t solve anything.

  8. Well we can already see that John Wyma’s name is in this representing the only interested buyers.

  10. zatoichi:

What you fail to realize is that Meeks is just now making his reputation. His only “cred” in the past was to make wild accusations about the Chicago Police Department to create a wedge for his run for Mayor. I may actually move back to the City so that when Meeks is elected Mayor, I can move back out in disgust. And did anyone happen to see the shameless press statement from Jesse Jr.? I like how he ties in Meeks’ shakedown with the never-gonna-fly Abe Lincoln Airport.
