  18. Abdon Pallasch of the Governor’s budget office acknowledged today that the state may need to find other areas to cut after realizing that less savings than expected will come from bundling purchases.

This contradicted Gov. Quinn’s earlier statement that “Nachos cost $4. Dessert costs $1. But if we bundle these purchases together, through efficiencies, nachos and dessert will only cost $5!”

  41. Sorry everybody who came late–we planned on having more tacos but the House gave us too little meat and the Senate made us buy more cafeteria/prison-grade beans than we wanted. Don’t even ask about the brownies we promised…

Comment by Some Guy Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:08 pm

  42. When asked why his Budget Office was holding a charity lunch for the 80’s porn star Seka, Governor Quinn equivocated, “I can’t say it’s always wrong to sell tacos to support former actresses..wasn’t the statue of liberty a former actress? I stand by everything my office has done, thought I can’t say it was exactly right. People have got to know that my administration stands for things, that’s the way we do things here in Illinois….”

  43. What exactly is the point of trashing a group of people for doing something for charity? Is this really what we have come to?

Comment by Why Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:31 pm

  44. Hmmm. Now I have a little better understanding of why the State budget and finances are under water. Usually when you offer a combo, you do it for a discounted price. (Hey, that’s how you get folks to buy more product. Or so I’ve been told.)

Comment by My Better Half Monday, Oct 29, 12 @ 8:32 pm

  47. Why @ 8:31 PM,

I have no problem trashing SECA. I got a bad taste in my mouth many years ago when the SECA payroll deduction forms were given to me with my “contribution” amount already filled in on the form … and I was expected to just sign it.

I realize that was probably done on the agency director’s orders but that was the year I stopped contributing to SECA … had they left the form blank, I would have upped my monthly contribution just like I had for the previous ten years. Actually, I know it was done at the director’s order because I was hauled into his office twice and lectured about not contributing and how he wanted 100% participation by his employees.

After that experience, I never again contributed to charity via SECA … I wrote checks directly to the charities of my choice.
