Let’s get this started with a story about a recent poll taken in the district.
A poll commissioned by Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert shows likely voters favor four Democrats over Republic candidate Andrea Zinga to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Lane Evans in the 17th Congressional District seat, with state Sen. John Sullivan leading the pack.Mr. Schwiebert commissioned the poll of 300 likely voters, done May 9-12, before the nominating convention in Galesburg. Personal Marketing Research asked voters if the election were held now, would they choose one of the four leading Democratic contenders or Ms. Zinga.
Mr. Sullivan of Rushville had 49 percent, compared to Ms. Zinga’s 24 percent. Mr. Schwiebert had 45 percent to Ms. Zinga’s 24 percent; state Rep. Mike Boland of East Moline had 41 percent to Ms. Zinga’s 28 percent; and Phil Hare, Rep. Evans’ district director, was favored 39 percent to Ms. Zinga’s 29 percent.
The poll had a margin of error of 5 percent. The pool of respondents was based on 2004 voting data. A fifth candidate, Quincy teacher Rob Mellon, wasn’t included in the poll

It doesn’t show the southern portion of the district feeding Hare to the wolves if he were to win this process. If Hare is the candidate there will be quite a bit of resentment aimed toward John G., Hare, and the RI organization for their strongarm tactics.

What you have is a lousy poll. When you get results like this, it shows that respondants are confused and simply choosing a party label. Whoever conducted this poll should work really hard and maybe in a year or two might be considered an amateur.

Yeah, that poll is total crap. Nobody knows who these people are, so they identify with a party. Plus it was commishoned by a democrat. So find me an independent poll that says this, and I will believe it… until then….

Interesting that a Schwiebert poll shows Sullivan as the strongest candidate and the RI party flunky as the worst.

The ballots are numbered and the precinct committeeman has to sign his name to the votes. They will be printing the way these elected precinct committeemen vote in the newspaper. If my precinct committeeman doesn’t cast at least one vote for who I am for I will let them know about it. I want to be represented in this process. I know that there are precincts that have no representation due to appointments. That seems wrong. The ballot has Mary Bolands name on it and she will count the votes for her husband. This whole procedure stinks to high heaven.

Hilarious. Every time a poll comes back with results contrary to what people wish to believe, they attack the poll. “Bad poll because a Democrat paid for it…they polled on Sunday, when Democrats are home worshipping satan and practicing sodomy and Republicans are at church or helping little old ladies cross streets…they only called Chicago…the disclaimer claims sampling error so it must have been volunteers in a basement…”
Indeed. Every poll is wrong. Never right. Uh huh.

What information do we know about the people in this poll? Were the names pulled off primary voting lists, and if so, what party were they from? Were they from throughout the congressional district, and if so, how can a poll of 300 people tell you anything? This poll should be thrown out, and a scientific poll done in its place.

Great poll. Shows us in the QCs what we thought — that RI Mayor Mark Schwiebert is the best progressive candidate positioned to win in the general. But now word comes that the big Macoupin County Democratic Machine won’t be voting in lockstep for Sullivan. When people talk about a Machine, Macoupin is the real Machine — not Rock Island.

A poll of such a small sampling, of course, needs to be considered flawed. However, the results have to be considered reasonable…
the two best candidates in November are Sullivan and Schweibert - either will just kill Zinga. Does it matter if one would win by 24-points and the other by 26-points?
Of course, Hare is the weakest of the group. But, in the end, does it matter that he might only win by 8-points?
The fact is that any of the candidates will beat Zinga, likely rather easily. Why is the issue not…WHO IS THE BEST CANDIDATE and WHICH CANDIDATE WILL BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THE MOST

thats a good question. Might want to add “which candidate would be capable of accomplishing the most for ALL the district”? Which candidate is capable of treating the southern portion different than the bastard child approach they have received in the past?

I noticed in today’s Moline Dispatch DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel has taken notice of the Schwiebert poll. The DCCC must look at that poll and say, give me Sullivan or Schwiebert. Both would be the strongest against Zinga, hands down.

Apparently, this poll didn’t affect the precinct committeemen very much. Despite the fact that Hare was shown to be the weakest candidate, they seem to have voted for him to be their nominee. Do they not care what we the people want?
