U.S. Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-Colona) has released his final commercial of the election cycle for the Peoria area, featuring an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria).

Schock is from Peoria and remains popular there, so this will help.

Hank Gray: “Bobby Schilling leads by example.”

Christie Schilling: “He rejected the congressional pension because it was the right thing to do.”

Bobby Schilling: “On top of that, I’ve returned $110,000 of my budget to the taxpayer.”

Aaron Schock: “Bobby Schilling’s election to Congress made a real difference. For the first time in decades, we’ve spent less than the prior year. Cheri Bustos will cancel my vote in Congress. Bobby Schilling will be a real partner. We need to keep him.”

Bobby Schilling: “It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, this is about fixing things so that people can get to work. I’m Bobby Schilling and I approved this message.”

  1. Schilling is crushing it in Peoria already. The Schock ad should shore up any leftover independents, soft Ds and union households.

The Democrat mailer Schilling sent out was great to take Cheri’s eyes off the ball (INDYs and swing voters). It’s been fun watching her run around the district telling people that Democrats should NOT vote for Schilling.

If Schilling pulls off the miracle and beats her, one could make the case that she was a worse candidate than Phil Hare — losing in a more democrat district and in a presidential — non-wave year.

  2. –Cheri Bustos will cancel my vote in Congress. Bobby Schilling will be a real partner. –

Kind of presumptuous, isn’t it? What about all that talk we’ve been hearing this season about working across the aisle?

Rep. Schilling says it doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, it’s just about fixing things.

Rep. Schock, on the other hand, let’s it be known that he can whip Schilling into line whenever he wants to.

  3. FWIW, Schock is all over the ads this cycle for a bunch of candidates in the Peoria area.

He’s bashing Dave Koehler in an ad for Pat Sullivan decrying attack ads.

He’s also been in ads supporting Ierulli in the Peoria County state’s attorney’s race against Jerry Brady.

  4. When did Bob Schilling get the folksy twang to his voice? I know him and this was just over the top, even for him. He lives in the Quad Cities, not Arkansas. All I can say is WOWSER.

  5. I find Cheri’s ad to be a bit awkward. Schilling’s ad is definitely folksy, not my cup of tea, but there’s a big difference between the two ads for sure. I think the fast-paced imagery is probably a better tactic than the Joe Walsh-style monologue that Cheri seems to be using.

  6. redrum, no bumper sticker slogans, please. It’s why you were deleted. That, and because you of all people really should be out walking precincts.

  7. Wildest political ad of the day? I heard a radio spot by Judge James Gerard Riley, the Republican opponent to the appointed Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis, who is, of course, the Democratic nominee.

Riley, speaking for himself, compared Rahm Emanuel’s fundraising for Theis to “buying” the seat on the Illinois Supreme Court to Rod Blagojevich trying to sell or auction off Obama’s US Senate seat.

Judicial candidates usually conduct fairly reserved and sedate campaigns, as provided for in the rules applicable to the judiciary. This advertisement really seemed extreme and may have crossed the line.

  8. This is one election that may be determined strictly by which party gets the most voters to the polls.

Comment by Aldyth Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 1:52 pm

  9. Ah yes, the lovely redrum. I remember him well from my blogging days.

Here’s a classic from January ‘11 before the redistricting maps were even presented:

“Aaron Schock is a star but in the new (17th CD) district Schock will be obliged a small sliver of his current district. Mike Madigan is cutting the map to maximize Democrat victories from the top down. (The 17th CD) will be a very winnable district for Mike (Jacobs).”

Of course, some of this is true—Mike Jacobs winning the Dem nomination for 17th CD, not so much.

  10. My prediction? Not that it matters, but the Pizza Man wins by 3!

Comment by Doug Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 2:17 pm

  11. What are you talking about qcexaminer? Mike Jacobs has never run for congress. He is running for his 3rd term as state senator.

Bobby Schilling is running for his 2nd term in the 17th CD.

Comment by Lil Enchilada Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 2:22 pm

  12. Even if the pizza man wins by .001% Bustos is still the biggest loser of 2012. D+6 district that went for Obama with 60% of the vote.

Comment by anon Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 2:23 pm

  13. Doug, I agree with you 100%

Comment by Lil Enchilada Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 2:23 pm

  14. Lil Enchilada, I was only copying a comment from “redrum” from my blog, I didn’t say Jacobs was running for congress.

You’re a QCer and I know you figured Mike would run for congress—everyone did after Hare got beaten like a rented mule by Schilling.Mike Jacobs was at the top of everyone’s list to take over the “Evans” seat.

What no one anticipated is that Mike would blow himself up on the last day of the session by bullying McCarter and bringing out in the open the synergy between Mike and his daddy’s lobbying clients.

Well, considering all the wacko stuff Mike has said and done over the years, I guess it actually COULD be anticipated. lol

  17. Qcexamine, you still down in Texas? I see your 17th congress picks didn’t pan out for you.

Comment by jo jo Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 4:15 pm

  18. joX2 in texas and illinois I always vote for change but expect status quo to win.

    I’m rarely disappointed.

  19. The Schock/Schilling ad is pretty strange — shouldn’t Schilling be using every last dime/TV pt. to promote himself, not Schock?

Comment by Whatever Wednesday, Oct 31, 12 @ 6:43 pm

  20. To Whatever on Schock, he never promotes himself unless it’s for his campaign.
Anyway, Schilling’s ads look very professional compared to Bustos ad which has spin to it through the idea of losing jobs to workers in China.
Easy win for Schilling,Schock is still handsome, and another day i get to see disagreements in congress.
