Stroger sells his house

Posted in:

This is really getting to be too much.

Cook County Board President John Stroger’s South Side Chicago home has been sold, real estate listings indicate.

The home on East 91st Street was put on the market April 20 at an asking price of $289,000, the records from the Multiple Listing Service indicate. Tuesday, the home was placed under contract, meaning that someone put in a bid and it was accepted. It was not known what the house sold for or when the closing will be.

Chicago Alderman Todd Stroger did not return calls for comment. After initially making his father’s doctors available for comment, Todd Stroger has declined to get specific about his father’s medical condition after his March stroke.

Jay Stewart, executive director of the Better Government Association, said the sale does not raise questions about Stroger’s residency status in regards to the presidency, but it does call into question his commissioner status, which requires him to live in his 4th District. The Chicago Tribune has reported John Stroger is now staying in a downtown condo, far outside the 4th District.

  1. Yes, I agree this is getting to be a bit too much.

Read both the Daley Herald and the Andy Shaw report - I think Chinta put it best that the family will be spokesperson for their real estate transaction and the health condition of John Stroger.

As for Peraica - talk about lack of class and integrity - its not like the election is tomorrow. He needs to work on whatever base he has - not attack every personal and confidential transaction of the Stroger family.

  2. But alderman Bill Beavers, a top democratic party official, agrees with John Daley that president Stroger’s loyalty to the democratic party gives him the right to designate a successor. Even his own son.

Silly me, I thought we lived in a democracy.

  4. Why would they sell their house?

  5. The election code and counties code will require that he give up his district seat. This is all evidence of his intent to give up his residency and domicile in the district. A whole line of cases is on point. I’d imagine some lawyers are preparing the suits right now to get declaratory relief in chancery court. If they do, the seat will be gone. And the County Board may actually be directed to vote on a successor for County Board President as required in the counties code.

  6. Maybe it is an issue of how many floors the house has, perhaps it is difficult fot him to navigate stairs…but when you hide things from people, people will theorize. As for Peracia, it is no more low classs than the Stroger camp hiding the truht. He is the incumbent and he was abe to hide behind the Cook COunty Dem’s lies enough to beat CLaypool. Kudis for Peracia not letting it happen again, while keeping some sense of decorum about him.

  7. Seat is gone! Phocion you must be up way to early. Selling the house does not cost Stroger the residency.
Meanwhile Commissioner Compassion, Fast Tony P. is taking more lessons from his mentor (opps I mean arch enemy) Fast Eddie V.
When will folks finaly catch on?

  8. Likely, Stroger is looking for a large, handicap-accessible bungalow in his district.

There’s a fine line between good government reformer and vulture.

  9. You may be right, YDD, but there is also a fine line between being respectful to an ailing public servant and being disrespectful to the voters.

On a side note, did any read Steinberg’s column today, where he called Beaver’s out for his asinine allegations of “double standard?” Classic.

  10. I don’t care where he lives.

As a Cook County taxpayer, I am concerned about how much his illness is going to cost me in $$$$. His underlings are probably going wild on patronage hires, which were pretty wild when Stroger was there.

Are the commisoners and the patronage hacks going to give away the store on various issues and then bill the taxpayers via a property tax increase?
    That’s what I’m worried about.

  11. Has anyone ever looked into who was buying the houses of
Congressman Gutierrez? I remember reading how he buys and sells houses, I wonder who buys them and if they are for market value?

  12. This IS getting ridiculous. As someone who attends the County Board meetings regularly, it’s also getting embarrassing.

  13. I was wrong. There is a worse choice for county board prez than Todd Stroger, and his name is Bill Beavers. The last thing the county needs is an arrogant machine guy with no interest in rescuing the sinking Titanic that is Cook County.

  14. Chill out, Cassandra. There’s a county hiring freeze.

Todd will be appointed to his dad’s commissioner seat.

  15. Q. Why is the Machine slating process like a logging company?

    A. Because all you ever get is a bunch of hacks and a load of dead wood.

  16. OK, OK, you all can stop calling me. I thought it was funny, but I agree I shouldn’t quit my day job.
