This afternoon I received a letter from Alderman Sandi Jackson tendering her resignation from City Council, effective January 15th.
As Sandi takes this time to focus on her family, we give her our deepest thanks and support for her service to our City and the residents of her ward. Her leadership has been greatly appreciated in the Chicago City Council.
The process to identify a replacement for Alderman Jackson to serve and represent the residents of Chicago’s 7th ward will be announced early next week.

Did she really refer to herself as “the first lady of the 2nd Congressional District?”
I mean, that was a big bright red flag right from the get-go.

“Clarion call of public service”? “First Lady of the 2nd Congressional District”? Wow.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a letter with more hyperbole (or run-on sentences).

I’m just being technical here — but shouldn’t the letter be addressed to the City Clerk, not the Mayor?

Sandi Jackson has been a very good Alderman, who is now facing a very unfortunate family crisis in the very public media glare. Most of us couldn’t survive that kind of media pressure. I frankly wish she could have remained as Alderman, but you have to give her credit for making a difficult decision in favor of her family. There may well be other issues going on in the background that impacted her decision, but for now, I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt that she is doing what is best for herself and her family.

Considering that she lives in Washington and sometimes comes to Chicago on Wednesdays for Council meetings the letter is a joke. It would actually be hysterical if it weren’t so pathetic. The first sentence is priceless. The next clarion call she gets is going to be from the Feds.

Well one advantage for her is that she can stay in DC away from some of the more problematic members of her husband’s family.
The downside is that the tour guide she likely hired to drive her around the 7th Ward during her rare visits will now be looking for a job.

Glad that Alderman Jackson finally did the right thing. It is hard to attend to local ward matters when you reside in D.C. And her letter is fine. So what if she boasts about her achievements? She is a politician after all. I for one would not have boasted about the TIF proceeds, but she is entitled.

It’s impolite to make light of the difficult situation she faces. But shouldn’t this have been released later on Friday? For a Friday late afternoon/evening news dump, this came out kind of early in the day.

I’ll always remember a couple years ago when the Tribune sent reporters to check out the Alderman’s houses and see if the streets were plowed in front of them, and as they were there a plow pulled up and Sandi hopped out. She claimed she was ensuring that her ward got plowed or something.

I wonder if the upcoming legal problems she and her husband are facing is behind this move more than anything else.
That said, things haven’t been easy for her family and are likely to become worse. I don’t see any reason to heap further scorn on her now.

The video of this on Ch. 9 was embarrassing.
The one odd bit about the timing of this resignation is it came just after ballot positions in the House election were announced. Could be unrelated, and I cannot think why it would matter when she resigned. Looks odd.

Sad. Just sad. The so-called Democratic Party has absolutely joined the Republicans as beyond pathetic in Illinois right now. Buy beans and rice folks. How many have pensions, what is the average pension payment RIGHT NOW, and how will that increase in the future?
1 million government employee pensions at $40,000/year is $40 BILLION just so you know. The ship is sinking no matter what Illinois liberals and the GOP may spew out of their mouths. Get out now! WORST STATE IN THE US = ILLINOIS! Sandi Jackson has lucrative government employee pensions FOR LIFE (if the poor youth can pay them), don’t feel sorry for her.

Sandi has done the right thing by resigning in this instance where she clearly has not been able to adequately serve her constituents. That self promoting letter, though, is just creepy. It’s positively Roland Burris trailblazerish in its over the top grandiosity!

I hope this resignation will allow Ms. Jackson to avoid indictment. Her children do not deserve to have both parents facing jail time. She made some big mistakes in relation to campaign funds and hopefully the feds will accept this offering along with whatever time her husband gets and call it a day.
