Today Lard

Posted in:

* From a photo taken at yesterday’s Du Quoin State Fair Republican Day and posted on 115th House District candidate Terri Bryant’s Facebook page

…Adding… Just so there’s no confusion, I’m not trying to cast any aspersions at all on Ms. Bryant. It’s just a funny picture.

  1. To Day, I … state your name … do here by pledge allegiance to Kirk Lard … with liberty and fraternity for all!

Comment by Spliff Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:18 am

  2. Due to circumstances beyond his control, budgetary shortages have resulted in cost cutting in the D Lard campaign. Yesterday D Lard, today just Lard.

Comment by AFSCME Steward Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:19 am

  3. And in closing I look forward to next Wednesday, officially Lard Day across the land.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:20 am

  5. I know how wrong it is to comment on somebody’s weight (and outside of this particular context, I wouldn’t), but it is amazing that she would put that photo on her own website.

That photo can sum up why the GOP loses. They have no awareness of their own message.

    The D-Lard signs? Miserable.
The fact that somebody would think that photo is a good idea for her website? Miserable.

    They just don’t understand elections.

Comment by Skeeter Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:22 am

  6. Every time I see those signs I hear Napoleon Dynamite calling Tina the Llama for dinner.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:23 am

  7. I am very proud to announce that after years of mixed results growing mushrooms in the legislative branch using outdated “night lard”, we are finally converting to the vastly superior “day lard”! Onward, upward, to day lard!

Comment by The Lowly LA Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:24 am

  8. “If elected Governor, Kirk will remove all pork from state government and replace it with lard.” In keeping with this great vision for Illinois, I am unveiling the new campaign slogan: Yesterday Pork, Today Lard.

Comment by AFSCME Steward Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:25 am

  9. Is that a Lyft ’stache on the podium?

Comment by Soccermom Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:25 am

  10. Gotta admit, DILLARD signage - good for displaying LARD at most any deep-fat fried fair. Hope LARD has a booth at the “Farm Progress Show” in Decatur.

Comment by anonymoose Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:27 am

  11. Somewhat off-topic, but Kirk Dillard’s separated-at-birth twin is the odd-on favorite to win for Mayor of Pittsburgh this fall.

  22. Like Kirk. Hate his signs.

Comment by Downstate Illinois Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:55 am

  23. We are having so much fun with the signs. Does this equate with votes? Hardly. I think the campaign should not re-order any more of the current signs and come up with an alternative.

Spoils our fun if they do.

Comment by Nearly Normal Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 9:55 am

  24. Today is the day the Lard has made….

  28. Oh man, unfortunate sign placement for Ms. Bryant. She might want to reconsider using that photo on her website.

Comment by Stones Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 10:34 am

  29. Did you know there are 12 words with LARD in them: Bollards, Collards, Dullards, Foulards, Lardiest, Lardlike, Lardoons, Mallards, Paillard, Pollards, Poularde, Poulards. We are adding a 13th.

Comment by Empty Suit Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 11:08 am

  35. I saw Day and then I saw Lard. Day-Lard. Hmmm, could this save Dillard’s butt?

Comment by Levois Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 11:11 am

  36. Like Chicago Dem, I’m not feeling this one either. Seems most of the fun has been had with this. He should have looked harder at this sign design. Trying to call “IL” out wasn’t a dumb creative decision, but it’s sure left too much cynicism with the Lard part. It’s just not that funny to me.

    Comment by A guy... Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 11:15 am

  37. == What is funny about it? ==

Have you seen the senator? He’s added more than the freshman 15 since he got to Springfield.

  38. My first reaction to the picture was, “Hog Calling Contest.”

Comment by aufjunk Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 11:57 am

  40. (to Don Williams music) Lard, I hope this day is good.

Comment by woodchuck Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 1:42 pm

  41. Another note on the photo –

Her campaign couldn’t get a photo of her smiling?
That’s an odd look on her face.

That’s really the sort of photo you would expect to see in her opponent’s piece and not on her own website.

She needs to fire her campaign manager now.

Comment by Skeeter Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 1:50 pm

  42. It is my understanding that Kirk is officially changing his name to get the LARD out…

Comment by Cincinnatus Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 2:01 pm

  43. The Illinois Farm Bureau used to host a breakfast every spring for legislators. Probably it still does. But I don’t think one of the sponsoring groups has the same name anymore. They used to be called the Porkettes, and they’d all be introduced and stand up and be applauded. But I think they decided that not having a name that might connect them in people’s minds with pork fat would be a good thing.

Comment by been there Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 3:23 pm

  44. Skeeter - She’s obviously making the “EEEE” sound in “SOOOOOOEEEE!” Like I said - Hog Calling Contest.

Comment by aufjunk Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 4:12 pm

  45. Hoping to be a lobbyist for the lard industry if her campaign fails.

Comment by fake county chairman Wednesday, Aug 28, 13 @ 10:10 pm

  46. Telling the crowd that next year at the fair there there will be a lard cow not a butter cow.Free samples of lard instead off Oberwies ice cream.
