I normally wouldn’t weigh in on a state issue, but the pending pension deal is so pivotal to our state’s financial future I will make an exception.
I fully distrust any monumental fiscal legislation that only is unveiled to the public on the eve of a vote. And, for good reason, I generally distrust the Democratic leadership that for years has run our state’s finances into the ground to the detriment of Illinois families.
My major concern from what has been published is that the agreement appears to make it much more likely that temporary tax increases will be made permanent and new increases will be forthcoming. Middle class citizens in Illinois who pay the bills cannot take further body blows to their finances because of fiscal mismanagement from the political class.
We understand state Senator Jim Oberweis is leaning toward supporting this bill on Tuesday. We hope he reconsiders and protects taxpayers first instead of the insiders in Springfield.
Kinda weird that he goes from “I” to “we” in the same statement. Otherwise, just more pressure to vote “No.”

Right Truax, “middle class citizens of Illinois who pay the bills cannot take further body blows — and that would include both public and private middle class citizens of this state. It is time for the Civic Committee billionaire boys club to pay up. How about a corporate tax break holiday until we solvent again?

Or perhaps more importantly, why don’t you normally weigh in on issues that impact the state you’re hoping to represent?

Wake up Truax. You’re supposed to understand numbers.
As far as passing the pension bill making it more likely that state taxes will stay high and might increase — the opposite is true. It is designed to reduce ongoing costs, and therefore makes it more possible to even consider reductions in taxes.
Tightening up corporate tax loopholes is a good idea, but we might need a hundred years of “corporate tax break holidays” to achieve solvency. (I haven’t attempted that calculations, since Corporations won’t share with the people or the legislators what state taxes they do pay to Illinois.)

Now that Oberweis passed the major accomplishment of raising the speeding limit, it shows how effective he is. Clearly, he is a major player and force to be reckoned with in the legislature. He will no doubt hold sway on pension reform. Or not.

(I haven’t attempted that calculations, since –Corporations won’t share with the people or the legislators what state taxes they do pay to Illinois.)–
And they’ll fight like crazy to keep that information private.
Pick up an annual report from any big Illinois corporation and you’ll discover state income taxes are nothing to them.
Main Street small businesses need to wake up; they’re paying the full freight, while the big dogs pay nothing and get handouts to boot.

Sorry to see. I was hoping Truax was a reasonable guy I could support as a decent standard bearer at least. But sounds like he OD’d on the Rauner kool-aid.

Oberweis is showing leadership by voting YES. If he does, he will indeed live up to his campaign commercial that he’s learned a few things from past mistakes.

Governor Quinn is the Grinch that stole Christmas to State employees and retirees. He is heartless. He lied in his last campaign when he said that he had a heart. He has an ice cold heart like all Chicago machine democrats.
