  12. Thanks for airing it, as so often done by CAP FAX. It surely is NOT ever taken for granted by this humble Commenter.

And I don’t know just why, but somethin’ tells me there’s goin’ to be something DIFFerent, a real “Gotcha on THAT one, Buddy,” or “WOW” Moment in this particular Debate…and likely because a couple of these fellas in particular know that the clock is startin’ to tick REAL fast now to the big day, and when you’re at least a couple to a few runs down in say, oh, the Bottom of the 7th or Top of the 8th, you simply just MUST find a way to “score” some Runs to get back INto it/make it real close/even TIE it somehow…if you can, so you really have to go for broke and bring your “A Game” to the Field, or later, looking back honestly in Defeat, you’ll think that ultimately you really have no one else but yourSELF to blame for falling short…

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:55 pm

  49. Rauner is nothing but talking points, even when called on not answering the questions. Rutherford had a decent game tonight; too bad he isn’t int he running any more. Between Dilalrd and Brady, Dillard sounded the more reasonable of the two.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:56 pm

No movement for any, especially backwards. All safely get through it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:00 pm

  55. If Rauner is really this excited about everything, maybe he should be drug tested.

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:01 pm

  56. There’s a reason they are “talking points”: because they’re points that resonate.

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:02 pm

  57. Running for governor in a debate is about a conversation to get votes, talking points are for ads…

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:05 pm

  58. Rauner have bet going on how many times he can slip ‘fundamental’ into his talking points or is that word jockeying for a new drinking game?

Comment by zatoichi Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:05 pm

  59. All I heard was Rauner say “eliminate CMS”. I’m no Rauner fan but if that’s what he means by shaking up government in Springfield, that’ll do it.

Comment by Casual observer Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:07 pm

  60. Rutherford looked comfortable and in control. The others were too scripted and choppy. Too bad Rutherford is toast.

Comment by IbendahlLuvsJBT Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:07 pm

  61. Baron von Rauner started to show his true opinion during the Latino discussion, the reference “low income …” slipped out and he immediately tried to correct it.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:09 pm

  62. Where did Rauner get that $6 million figure? Is that what they’re telling him?

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:09 pm

  63. While there is no doubt waste in CMS, there ain’t nowhere near the amount of money Rauner alleges in the CMS budget. And a lot of what is there is money that would have to be spent anyway on the personnel, insurance and property management activities whether CMS existed or not.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:12 pm

  64. Good thing “shake up Springfield” wasn’t a drinking phrase … none of us would be able to get up in the morning/

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:13 pm

  65. Agreed RNUG, but just like Blago, he wants to decide who gets the contracts. Business as usual.

Comment by Casual observer Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:14 pm

  66. love the Scott Walker slam Dillard got in on Rauner. Walker is a career politician. zing!

Comment by PoolGuy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:18 pm

  67. I wonder if Rauner knows that Mitch Daniels raised taxes.

Comment by Jorge Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:18 pm

  68. RNUG, I caught that. Everyone caught that low-income gaffe. Everyone heard Dillard’s repeated use of “they, them, their” as well. Everyone also heard Brady’s repeated use of “Latino community”. The only one speaking comfortably and authentically about Latinos was the one guy who hasn’t a chance to win. Shame.

Comment by IbendahlLuvsJBT Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:18 pm

  69. The “Latino” answers, or lack of tact or understanding by Rauner and Dillard was tough. Rauner ignoring Sanguietti even more glaring.

    Very disappointed on the verbiage.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:26 pm

  70. Off Topic. Is this a new Baron von Carhartt ad?

Comment by Samurai Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:30 pm

  71. Yikes!

Hope that doesn’t make someone “Spider”, - Samurai -

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:36 pm

  72. Yup. Can appreciate good campaigning even when used against the team.

Comment by Samurai Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:43 pm

  73. RNUG, exactly in re CMS. Do away with it, fine. The personnel, healthcare, IT, property, etc. costs are not going anywhere. Further, GRF is a minuscule fraction of the CMS budget-it’s mostly comprised of revolving funds to collect agencies’ share of CMS’ various activities.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 9:35 pm

  74. Nothing new, same impossible promises. Rutherford was the only one that admitted they might need the income tax to stay the same. Too bad he is out of the race, but does not realize it yet.

Comment by DuPage Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 9:53 pm

  75. I missed it. Anyone know where I can see a rebroadcast.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 10:16 pm

  76. –“Pat Quinn has been a massive failure on crime in Illinois. Crime under Pat Quinn has skyrocketed throughout Illinois — not just Chicago, but in Rockford and many other communities, and we’ve got to take action with restoring our budgets to balance so we properly staff and train our police departments.”–

Quite a strong and unambiguous statement by Rauner. It must be true. No would say something so reckless if it was not true.

Maybe he can give us a peek on those skyrocketing state crime figures he’s referring to.

And, of course, he must have a plan “to take action with restoring our budgets to balance so we properly staff and train our police departments.”

    Whatever that’s supposed to mean.

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 10:29 pm

  77. Point of Information:

Information compiled for the annual Uniform Crime Reports would seem to indicate that the actual rate of index offenses– both violent and property– has declined from 2009 to 2012, the last year for which ISP/FBI data is available.

Illinois Crime Rate per 100,000, year 2009

    Violent– 509.5
    Property– 3,299.8

Comment by Timmeh Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 11:52 pm

  79. CORRECTION:

The Illinois rate for property crimes in 2009 was 2,790.3, not the 3,299.8 figure cited in the original post. My apologies to all… haste makes mistakes!

Comment by Charlie Wheeler Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 11:59 pm

  80. Charlie, you should know that facts have no place in political campaigns.

Comment by Norseman Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 12:07 am

  81. Thanks, Charlie, I was digging around myself.

Rauner must have meant some other kind of “skyrocketed.”

Comment by wordslinger Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 12:10 am

  82. Rauner is so wedded to repeating short message sound bites that I sometimes feel like he is selling a used car: “Low mileage - handles well - new tires - leather interior - great lines.”

Comment by Percival Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 12:18 am

  83. How can Baron von Carhart Rauner “work” with legislators when he called many of them “corrupt”?
