  1. Did you notice how all the Quinn stuff was in bleak black and white then — ta da — Bruce Rauner brings the color?

Subtle. Phone it in, creative types.

Whatever. Rauner has money and his stuff is adequately professional, but I’m hardly objective on him at this point. I made up my mind pretty early.

He insults the intelligence and demonstrates contempt for any thinking person.

  2. Nice change of pace. Money can buy good. Lack of money gives you Bill Brady Web ads. Sigh!

Comment by Norseman Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:04 pm

  3. Another solid B. Pounding a message relentlessly.

    Comment by A guy... Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:07 pm

  4. Wow he must have a new poll with the bottom falling out …this is like a bio/feel good spot usually run a year in advance….. bye bye Mitt

Comment by circularfiringsquad Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:12 pm

  5. Clearly not an ad meant for the primary. Doesn’t mention party affiliation at all. Makes sense though, why bother when he already won?

    Comment by Johnny Q. Suburban Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:17 pm

  6. == …this is like a bio/feel good spot usually run a year in advance….. bye bye Mitt==

More like he is already moving on to the general 8 months out.

Comment by Raunerbot Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:18 pm

  7. Nothing new, and it does seem redundant to have this script an piece so late, even if you are writing your own checks .

Two weeks out is GOTV/Asking for your vote - “You know me, I am asking for your vote” mode.

The negatives might be moving? Just a strange sequence of Ad rotation two weeks out. But, it’s not like finances of the campaign are a worry, so …

    “B” but a boring “B”

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:20 pm

  8. Just like the NCAA Tourney, politics is all about “Survive and Advance”…

“…moving on two week, I see no problem focusing on the next race.

    Signed,

    Jack O’Malley”

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:24 pm

  9. B nothing new

So he’s a “community leader” now? What community?

Comment by Walker Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:25 pm

  10. Pretty weak add for Rauner. Most everything before this was better. The only interesting thing is the term limits, everything else everyone is for… he’s done such a good job at looking like something different this entire primary campaign, odd seeing him now look like a blah, run of the mill politician who’s works for you to bring jobs and better schools and long walks on the beach and lower taxes and puppies and ending wasteful spending!

Comment by From the 'Dale to HP Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:30 pm

  11. =So he’s a “community leader” now? What community?=

Barack Obama was a community leader too. Must be looking to the general already, gotta have some crossover to win. (LOL)

  12. Meh. Generic. B-

Comment by Ray del Camino Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:48 pm

  13. “B.” Good ad. Soothing. It’s also helps to have a candidate who makes a good appearance. No gut. Tall. Sadly, a lot of folks will vote on this basis. A belly and flabby face says a lot to some folks.

Comment by Cook County Commoner Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 3:50 pm

  14. Community leader? Is that if he can’t run on his business record any more he’s gonna go with all his community achievements in throwing money around the community?

Also, which community is he leading? Winnetka? Chicago? Montana?

Comment by hisgirlfriday Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 4:25 pm

  15. I give it an A.

It hits Quinn hard but without sounding strident.

    Good visuals.

    Overall, a very good ad.

If he keeps running ads like this, he’s going to win in November.

Comment by Smoggie Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 4:51 pm

  16. –Community leader? Is that if he can’t run on his business record any more he’s gonna go with all his community achievements in throwing money around the community?–

HGF, he has lots of money, but a pretty lazy, dreary creative crew. They phone it in.

They’ve produced a lot of professional, expensive stuff, but none of it has a “wow” factor or is creative
. They’re lazy, because they have no competition.

I mean, c’mon — did you have to blow north of 10 rocks to this point to get over on the Other 3? The guys who don’t have a two nickels among them?

As far as studying a campaign, Rauner is an empty vessel. There’s no there, there. He could be a Bundt cake — as long as it’s an anti-union Bundt cake.

But if you can prime the pump with your own money to build an awesome fundraising network that shuts out your opponents, you got game.

And baby, he has done that.

The question becomes, was he so good or were the Other 3 so lazy?

I go with the lazy. They’ve been running — not too hard — for years. And they got smoked.

  17. Quinn — Kansas. Rauner - OZ!

Comment by Soccermom Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:08 pm

  18. Wow, a Republican that actually cares about education and is willing to put it on his TV spot. Been awhile since anyone in the GOP has actually advocated something positive for education. Dillard must be for education as well, but I haven’t heard him advertise anything substantial on it, other than some earned media about endorsements and money from teachers unions.

Comment by Judge Cooked Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:21 pm

  19. Great Ad ! Rauner pretty much sums up the problems in Illinois in this concise ad.

Comment by Linebacker II Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:22 pm

  20. - wordslinger - hit it right;

Empty vessel, empty words, no substance.

Raunerbots are so funny. The Ad says nothing, so how can it rate higher than a “B”?

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:25 pm

  21. @ Judge Cooked —

Why don’t you talk to some actual educators? They’ll tell you Rauner cares about education about like Col. Sanders cares about chicken.

Comment by olddog Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:33 pm

  22. @Olddog… Goofy comparison. I bet when Col. Sanders was alive he cared about chicken very much. He made a good living thanks to chicken.

  23. “Community Leader” is apparently the reaction to the attack on the Farmer’s bidness career. Pretty sad that he or the team would throw a life’s work overboard to make a completely unneeded (at this point) political point.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 5:59 pm

  24. @ BDuty6 –

    Yep. That’s my point.

Comment by olddog Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 6:05 pm

  25. Smuggie is right.
That ad is how he expects to win.
And compared to Governor Quinncompetent, he will.

Comment by VanillaMan Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 6:40 pm

  26. It’s ok. But it doesn’t really grab ya.

Comment by Cassandra Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 6:53 pm

  27. Sorry, I forgot:

To Chip and Shrimp. as you as you cash your silly Rauner checks:

Go home and get your shine box,

Got no game in this state,
    Cheeseheads

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 6:57 pm

  28. With his latest Million thrown into his Coffers to finance it, he just keeps hammering away relentlessly, although this latest version is really just more of the same old balderdash, except for some reason he left out his 5th Goal which has become quite OBvious to anyone who’s been following him: to drain as many MILLion$ of his own PERsonal Super WEALTH to try and BUY the Governorship of Illinois (something the Voters will see RIGHT THRU in due time)!!

And, disingenously enough, his Ads continue on the whole to focus solely on Pat Quinn–as if he’s already WON his Party’s nomiNAtion or something! Just the height of Arrogance on his part…!

Comment by Just The Way It Is One Tuesday, Mar 4, 14 @ 7:40 pm

  29. Just back from Mardi Gras jambalaya dinner in a little West Suburban bar that will never get reviewed in Chicago magazine - just a neighborhood place. Rauner ad on after the Blackhawk’s first period. Comments down the bar - “Trying to buy the election” “I wear flannel, vote for me” Don’t know if they’re primary voters, but not everyone is fooled.
