* A group called the New Prosperity Foundation has a new ad for Republican congressional candidate Bert Miller

Miller is the only GOP candidate in the 11th District spending any real money. He’s up against Rep. Darlene Senger and four others for the right to take on incumbent Democrat Bill Foster.

* There hasn’t been much news generated there. Here are a few kinda recent stories…

* Primary concern: 11th Congressional District election preview

* Candidates for Congress talk health care, minimum wage at Naper event

* 11th District candidates: Government must get out of way of business

  1. Good for Miller for getting out there. Senger was heavily recruited by the NRCC, but has been a spectacular disappointment in terms of organizing and fundraising.

  2. Not bad, solid B.

Balkema has been working the phones kind of hard and I have gotten some really good mailers from Miller, don’t think I have heard boo from Senger…

  3. Well that is a sad ad. C-

  4. He had his positive intro spot, so now here’s a little red meat for the faithful.

His opponents aren’t on the air, so he can go negative on Washington, Obama and Pelosi. I’m sure that works for a GOP primary.

It’s goofy for a potential future freshman Congressman to push his “plan for jobs,” like that means anything, but it’s done often.

I cringe when I see politicians go over the top using images of the flag in spots, but that ship sailed long ago.

Solid B effort. Grading on a curve, since no one else is out there, gets an A.

  5. “B+”

Goes to a subject and to why Miller is running, who they blame for problems, Miller is a solution, and asks for your vote. Music and images are geared toward the Base, as the music seems to “push”, not just there for background.

Would have given solid “A”, but not an Ad by Miller Crew, so not “in-house” promotional Ad takes it down just a hair, but a “B+” all the same.

  6. Bert is so retro - he is hip.
I liked his first ad a lot.
This one - not so much.

  7. Same background graphics and script can be used, and probably is, in all 50 states. Just change the state name, candidate name, and candidate photo.

Not bad for a generic intro.

He could be easy to beat, if he doesn’t get more targeted to his district in Illinois.

BTW heard an Obie radio ad. It had all the standard GOP attacks on Obama — he “lied when he said you could keep your doctor”, he “forced people onto welfare”, he “made us weak internationally” — and just replaced the “Obama” with “Durbin”.

The only thing he didn’t blame directly on Durbin was Benghazi.

Same basic ad also could be running across the US in Senate races.

Laughed out loud in the car. You think Obie will actually run against Durbin some day, on Illinois issues?

  8. After seeing Bert’s Ad, I don’t know anymore about him than I do Bert on Sesame Street. It’s basically a flag waving name-id ad with a couple of shots at Democrats, perhaps that’s all it takes in a GOP primary. D+.

  9. This is going to be an interesting primary. I think Darlene will win, but if Miller is strong enough and takes enough votes away from her Balkema might be able to pull it off.

  10. It’s OK, a C. Compared to what? That makes it an A. Sad story here. NRCC recruits Darlene and offers a blank check. She got one alright. A check with NO money on it. Bert’s a decent guy. Darlene was sacked by the party here. You need money to run for Congress against policy weakling, but somewhat monied Bill Foster. Miller has money, Senger doesn’t and never will. This will be a good race in November; Miller v. Foster. The IL HGOP played with house money with Darlene’s seat. Cross’ fault. His leadership (lack of) looks worse by the day. Darlene deserved a heck of a lot better.

  11. What an awful winter. I blame cross

  12. Bert’s ad was good. This ad is marginal but it’s tough when independent groups can’t coordinate with candidates and have to find pictures on public websites.
