*** UPDATED x1 - Video *** A little discretion, please

Posted in:

* There’s a time and a place for everything. And a press conference about signing anti-bullying legislation was neither the time nor the place for this goofiness…

Shame on @BruceRaunerHQ sending a clown to signing of anti-bullying bill. Does he think bullying is funny? pic.twitter.com/ZC8cVQg1EV

— Rep. Kelly Cassidy (@RepKellyCassidy) June 26, 2014

Both major party candidates in this race need to grow the heck up.

…Adding…
Apparently, the clown was dancing. Video coming soon.

*** UPDATE *** Yep, he was dancing outside an anti-bullying event

  1. I’d call Rauner a Bozo for allowing his campaign to pull this stunt, but I have too much respect for Bozo.

Comment by Norseman Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 3:50 pm

  2. Yep,
    That was rather dumb…

Comment by OneMan Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 3:55 pm

  3. When you campaign is being talked about because of “mascots”, then ridiculed for the mascots using Bad Form, at what point does someone in that Crew say to the Poobahs, “What are we trying to do?”

As for Quinn, being a Johnny Come Lately, now, to that picture in that tweet, ask yourselves, “What election has been won of significance that was winning the ‘childish’ spin?”

    The Communication shops have been below par for quite some time;

    Get with it.

The job is for governor of the 5th largest state in America. Act like your job represents that importance. That picture above, that is not doing that.

Your shops are the “show ” in communications this cycle, don’t make them a trivial sideshow of Dopiness.

  4. the weekly bingo game is starting: clown, chickens, cupcakes……

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:00 pm

  5. Why can’t these guys conduct themselves in a manner befitting the office? Neither of these guys deserve to be Governor.

Comment by Stones Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:05 pm

  6. What’s the Raunerbot defense? Is it the same as Baron Bruce’s for all his companies, that he didn’t actually control anything? If so, that doesn’t say much for Bruce’s campaign.

Comment by Precinct Captain Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:14 pm

  7. This goes right to THE central question of judgement.

Nursing homes; clowns; constant 0.01%’er foolish grin; ill fitting tux; stupid staff work on his budget ‘plans’ and ‘blueprints’. And on and on and…

    Comment by sal-says Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:16 pm

  8. While bullying is indeed a real problem among young people, it is ALWAYS time to call a clown a clown. I am subject to Chicago media, which is unapologetically pro-Democrat and cutting Rauner very little slack. Very few outlets are really pushing Governor Quinn on these Neighborhood Recovery Initiative/IDOT investigations. If it takes sending a clown to get Rauner’s point across, so be it.

Comment by Black Ivy Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:17 pm

  9. I don’t enter the conser-o-sphere portions of the interwebs too often, so can someone fill me in…
Is this Quinnochio thing a viral hit among the base? Does anyone like this guy? Or is it just solely to try and get a rise out of a Quinn staffer and get a gotchya YouTube clip?

Comment by Jimmy CrackCorn Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:19 pm

  10. === I am subject to Chicago media, which is unapologetically pro-Democrat and cutting Rauner very little slack.===

Always the victims. Yeah, that Tribune, cutting down Rauner constantly, and giving Quinn a pass all the time.

And WLS Radio, they are “Democrat” apologists.

    Yikes.

This is not all about Rauner (but this Dopiness is beyond the pale), it is about taking this up to an adult level, and not having costumed props at a bullying signing.

They both need to get so much better…

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:27 pm

  11. @OW & @Stones nail it.

When you have nothing worth running on, you run on nothing. Quinn has been a disaster, and Rauner benefits by simply being “not Quinn” as so many challengers do.

Comment by Formerly Known As... Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:28 pm

  12. “I will drive the career politicians nuts. I will, I will drive them nuts.”

    And the rest of us…..

Comment by Been There Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:29 pm

  13. Black Ivy needs to get out more. The Chicago media has had 1-3 NRI stories per day for weeks, most of which are rehashes of the theme that money spent on anti-violence programs is money wasted. And as for the “pro-dem” Chicago media, puh-leeze. The biggest Illinois newspaper has been building its case for its inevitable Rauner endorsement for months.

Comment by orzo Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:33 pm

  14. That Quinnochio does have some moves…error or not so much.I hope he doesn’t twerk at the next event. That’s where this campaign is headed.

Comment by Jorge Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:34 pm

  15. ==- Black Ivy - Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:17 pm:==

That’s the same kind of attitude as Westboro Baptist, to attack anywhere and everywhere, particularly at the most sensitive points. Has Rauner sunk that low?

    ==- orzo - Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:33 pm:==

Not to mention, said newspaper isn’t known for being historically friendly to Democrats. In fact, it’s known for being the exact opposite of friendly, downright hostile.

Comment by Precinct Captain Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:40 pm

  16. Best guess is this guy is following the Gov around. It would be worthwhile to get some context on the event he’s at and stay in the car when the subject is something like this one. It looks horrible. I wouldn’t mind seeing every mascot…everywhere…go away.

    Comment by A guy... Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:49 pm

  20. This race is starting to resemble an episode of South Park.

Comment by North Shore Joe Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:53 pm

  21. Disgusting. It does not matter what the event may be. Using this clown is so insulting to me I don’t even know how to put it into words. Rauner needs to stop this or he will lose me as well…

Comment by Allknowingmasterofraccoondom Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 4:53 pm

  22. Yep. Both camps need to cut the name calling and circus stunts and act at least a little professional. It’s embarrassing.

Comment by anon Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:02 pm

  23. What a GDFI thing to do.

Correct about the Bozo Bruce I’ve been using. I’m going to have to come up with something better. Bozo was funny, entertaining. Bruce is anything but that. Jeez.

Comment by low level Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:06 pm

  24. Rauner public antics have been 2nd rate and childish,no doubt. But his underground approach to business and core democratic constituencies has been professional and spot on. He’s better in private, and other than ads, failing miserably in public. But who’s really watching this? Only insiders whose minds are already made up.

Comment by Lincoln Lad Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:24 pm

  25. Now wouldn’t that be something if that was a Quinn operative drumming up some bad Rauner press. Maybe that’s too clever for Quinn though.

Comment by Jack Handy Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:25 pm

  26. Dear Rep. Cassidy:

I agree that bullying is not funny. However, neither is taking $54 million in taxpayer dollars and using it as a slush fund to buy votes in your district and city.

I look forward to your next tweet asking the Governor and his staff to answer questions. I presume you’ll note its not funny when they take the 5th and refuse to testify?

That being said, both candidates need to grow up. Sam McCann is looking better every day.

    Comment by 1776 Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:28 pm

  27. The Tribune endorsed Obama twice. Hardly hostile to Democrats.

Comment by The Prince Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:52 pm

  28. Stunts, props and mascots are ridiculous, annoying and insulting no matter their nature or intended message.

Comment by The Prince Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:54 pm

  29. @1776, you don’t own the revolution. just so you know.

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:56 pm

  30. Rauner people do this at as many Chicago area Quinn or Vallas events as they can - budget talks, anti-bullying, education discussions….

That other guy out there is a Rauner tracker who videotapes everything.

If the clown slips and falls he’ll have it on tape and he knows who to turn to for advice.

If Rauner gets elected what is he going to do, get a guy to dress up as a Leprechaun and dance outside the Speaker’s office? That’ll accomplish as much as bringing chickens did to explain Rauner’s hot air “budget”.

    Comment by A. Nonymous Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 5:58 pm

  31. Based on Brucie’s ever changing stories about his daughter’s admission to CPS high school, I expect to see Raun-noccio’s nose growing!

    Comment by D.P.Gumby Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 6:21 pm

  32. Does Griffin provide the transportation for this clown’s antics as well?

Comment by Wensicia Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 6:23 pm

  33. Stones Thank you.

Comment by Ginhouse Tommy Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 6:51 pm

  34. I love the excuses by Raunerbots! You know, that personal accountability thing conservatives are always talking about?

First Payton Prep shows a stunning lack of integrity by Bruce, as well as how he feels he should be treated vs. the rest of us - not to mention leadership?

Now this? Apparently it never occurred to them that bullying leads to tragic consequences often.

    Unbelievable.

P.S. And before you accuse me of being a Quinn campaign operative, forget it. I’m a MJM guy. As it is I’m going to have to hold my nose to vote for the Governor. With these antics, however, Bozo Bruce is making it easier.

Comment by low level Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 6:54 pm

  35. === Maybe that’s too clever for Quinn though. ===

Maybe?….That bar is set pretty low.

Comment by Cadillac Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 7:14 pm

  36. I think the answer is yes. I sincerely believe from the bottom of my heart that Bruce Rauner really thinks that bullying is not only funny, but actually quite enjoyable and frequently a whole lot of fun. Just try it and you’ll like it too!

    Comment by Mighty M. Mouse Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 7:21 pm

  37. Also, anybody who has slammed a 6 pack of courage before heading out to do something potentially embarrasing knows that is called the “tinkle dance”.

Comment by Cadillac Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 7:22 pm

  38. Hey 1776 , amateur hour time, the filing period is over

Comment by Someone you should know Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 8:35 pm

  39. I think Rauner gets a bump in the polls over this. He base loves these sort of things.

Comment by Morty Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 9:14 pm

  40. his base…

Comment by Morty Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 9:15 pm

  41. I’ve been somewhat supportive of Rauner up to this point…mainly because I can’t handle any more of Quinn, but this is one dumb-ass move. Rauner needs to jerk a knot in someone’s butt over this complete stupidity.

Comment by Sunshine Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 10:12 pm

  42. Pathetic.

Comment by Samurai Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 10:38 pm

  43. The Prince,

Yes, Tribune endorsed Obama twice. It was their first endorsement of a Democrat for president in 150 years, and likely their last. They endorsed him largely because he was a hometown guy they knew. Either you aren’t seriously in suggesting that the Trib is a Dem leaning paper or you haven’t been paying the slightest bit of attention.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Thursday, Jun 26, 14 @ 11:05 pm

  44. Not being hostile to Democrats is not the same as Dem-leaning. A truly conservative newspaper would not have given either endorsement, the second one especially. The Tribune is not conservative, especially with regard to social issues. They like Rauner for whatever reason, but I do not consider him a conservative by any means.

Comment by The Prince Friday, Jun 27, 14 @ 6:23 am

  45. Geppetto would be so proud if he could see his son now.

Comment by Tommydanger Friday, Jun 27, 14 @ 7:35 am

  46. ===They like Rauner for whatever reason, but I do not consider him a conservative by any means.===

I can agree with that. I don’t consider him to be a conservative and I don’t even consider him a Republican. I call him a chameleon. He’ll say anything, or nothing, to win. He’ll change his stripes, change colors or make up any lie to win. He’s a con-man, a flim-flam man, a chameleon. He’s not a conservative nor even really a Republican. He’s an immensely wealthy, phony fraud of a man.

    Comment by Mighty M. Mouse Friday, Jun 27, 14 @ 7:50 am

  47. Yeah, not cool at all. Someone please use common sense.

Comment by Wally Friday, Jun 27, 14 @ 8:03 am

  48. When isn’t Kelly Cassidy selectively outraged? Stupid move by the Raunerbots for sure, but two years ago Chik-a-Filet was the target of the pro-SSM crowd’s feigned outrage and now the franchise chain is doing business in Chicago. It is not like the GLBT votes were ever in play for the GOP nominee.

Comment by Upon Further Review Friday, Jun 27, 14 @ 9:01 am

  49. 48 comments and not one mention of “Slip and Sue”. Refreshing.
