Arghh!!! The earworm!!! It burns!!!

Posted in:

* “Thanks” to our commenter “soccermom,” I now have a near terminal case of George Michael-induced earworm.

I was gonna save this for later, but it must be done now in case some of the rest of y’all are suffering from the same condition.

* The late, great Johnny Winter. Turn it up so loud your co-workers complain

  1. Pretty amazing he lived that long.

This dude I know used to work at Alligator Records. He said Johnny could be on the nod and still pick fights with much bigger, badder men.

Then take the stage and let it rip.

  2. Why doesn’t Johnny Winter show up on the deep cut classic rock stations? I can’t remember hearing any other instances of a lead guitarist playing both slide and “regular” lead during the same song like that. I’ll have to ask my father if he still has his old Johnny Winter album (vinyl, of cource) in the archives somewhere.

  3. He was the Man.

Speaking of earworms, I had the Sheena Easton song “My Baby Takes the Morning Train” playing in my head during my freshman English exam once. I still have nightmares about it.

  4. I saw Johnny Winter twice, once back in the day at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom and once around a decade ago. The Aragon show was the only time I sat in the front row for a major act.

He was ripping at the Aragon but was more subdued at the other show, I think due to illness.

    RIP Johnny Winter.

  5. Great video, great artist. I bought “Live Johnny Winter And” when I was in high school and, wow, did I ever wear that album out.

  7. Soccermom - while Careless Whisper is bad, I would argue “Wake me up before you go go” is much much worse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIgZ7gMze7A

    You’re welcome Rich.

  8. Saw Jonny Winter at the IL State Armory in the early 70’s. Great Show. I think Long John Baldry was also on the venue. Both of the Winter boys played the Armory at different times. I wish they would do something with that building. I was recently talking with someone who worked at the Armory and he says Ray Davies of the Kinks carved his name somewhere in the dressing rooms.

  9. Very Sorry, of course should be Johnny Winter.

  10. Saw him in 1984 at the first Chicago Blues Fest. The crowd had been drinking whiskey out of half gallon bottles for the previous fours hours. Some were dancing naked from the scaffolding that held the speakers. It was totally out of hand. When Johnny would do a riff the entire crowd would surge towards the stage…truly scary, but utterly thrilling.
