  4. Quigley-Kolber in the 5th. Not that I think it’ll be much of a race, but because it’ll be good to finally have a meaningful local race on the north side.

Too many ward organizations have atrophied because there are no Republicans to fight. We’ve gotten fat and lazy and this is a good exercise to see what is left of the “machine” up in this neck of the woods. Quigley is no danger, but hopefully he, Durbin and Pat Quinn can spend some money in the right places and create some enthusiasm in an area of the city the Dems take for granted. If they do it right, they can add some important extra votes that might otherwise stay home in an off-year.

Plus, it’d be good practice before the city elections next February.

  5. Am I the only one who saw the “explain why” part of the question?

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:50 pm

  6. Duckworth’s race.
Two military personalities. Both brash and blunt.

    Mussman’s race.
Mom on a mission. How’s that mission coming along? Democrat in a historically GOP district.
Opponent robocall was well timed right before the 7/4 parades with pointed question was memorable and relevant.

Comment by Pete Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:51 pm

  7. Terri Bryant vs. Bill Kilquist in the 115th. Would love to see a poll on that race. Lots of signage up for Bryant, heard little to nothing out of Kilquist.

    Comment by John A Logan Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:54 pm

  8. Quinn Security vs Rauner Tracker . . . .Has over 100 views on CapitolFax; statewide intrigue, ability to define both campaigns from here to election day. Pull up a seat and grab the popcorn!!

Comment by East Central Illinois Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:58 pm

  9. So I’ll add the explain part: I live in the Tenth.

Comment by Concerned Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:58 pm

  10. Moylan v. Thillens.

Thillens has yet to respond to the Rauner tax plan.

Thillens has not only positioned himself as a champion of small businesses, he actually owns an armored car service which is targeted by Rauner.

Thillens is gonna get creamed, but I just enjoy the theatre

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 2:58 pm

  11. Glowiak vs. Nybo

The word locally is that Nybo isn’t well liked, but he’s known to be a hard worker. Glowiak is a solid pick demographically. The question is - can she pull off a Tom Cullerton in DuPage County?

Comment by cal city crew Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:05 pm

  12. Schneider-Dold (a close congressional race with an interesting “will the far left/right come out for their candidate” angle, though Dold is more to the right than he portrays himself)

Jason Patt v. Mark Curran for Lake County Sheriff - department is troubled to say the least.

Comment by lake county democrat Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:06 pm

  13. Senger Foster. She works hard. He doesn’t. National and State Trends could help this one.

    Comment by A guy... Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:13 pm

  14. Springfield Mayor - Hoston vs Palazzolo vs Jobe vs Langfelder. its gonna get real nasty and with more money than most GA races.

    Comment by J. Nolan Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:19 pm

  15. Its like the lead up to “The Night of the Long Knives” in the Jacobs/Anderson race.

    Comment by Case-IH Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:29 pm

  16. Ed Yoder v Steve Grimm for Macon County Treasurer.
Will the retired/ former County Treasurer Grimm be able to get back his old job.

Comment by downstate demo Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:32 pm

  17. Also, Rahm v. A Player to be Named Later

Watching the maneuvers as Rahm’s opponents try to find an opponent is political noir at its best.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:38 pm

  18. Springfield Mayor’s race. Old guard versus the (more or less) new kids. Could determine who dominates in Springfield for many years. Be interesting to watch.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:42 pm

  19. Mayor race in Springfield. Currently looks like a battle of the legacy names.

Could get real interesting if jobe throws his hat in?

Comment by Under Influenced Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:46 pm

  20. Reick/Franks in IL 63. Reason is self-explanatory.

Comment by Steve Reick Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:52 pm

  21. Sandack against Proft…….2016

Comment by DuPage Bard Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:53 pm

  22. === Jason Patt v. Mark Curran for Lake County Sheriff ===

    Same here.

Comment by Just Observing Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:53 pm

  23. Bell-Scherer. Both are terrible candidates and the district is a 50 plus one. My guess is Durkin will hold off to see how things go before he drops any money in this race. Word is that Springfield dislikes her so bad that less then 10 people came to an event she had. I have also heard Bell is hard headed and will not listen to anyone. Still, I think that the tide would really have to turn for the incumbent to loose this one. For all her faults she is a massive campaigner.

Comment by Yipperdo Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:56 pm

  24. “The word locally is that Nybo isn’t well liked, but he’s known to be a hard worker.”

Nybo may not be well-liked by some Republican insiders because of his courage to act independently at times; however, voters who have come to know him, love him.

Comment by Fiscal Sense Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:57 pm

  25. It appears May be some validly in post about macon county treasurer race. Yoder is gone from office a great deal of the time farming. Grimm served several terms and was a full time treasurer. “

Comment by hunter Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 3:57 pm

  26. Frerichs-Cross.

Could be the closest of all the Statewides.

Mike Frerichs has given Tom Cross so many openings at this point, this race could be an “Election Day” win by one of them, unless Cross frames the Dopiness of Frerichs after Labor Day and turns that into votes.

I will be watching very closely.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 4:07 pm

  27. Simon-Topinka

The two hottest women in Illinois going head to head. What could be better?

Comment by David Coppafeel Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 4:15 pm

  28. Batinick vs. Dunn in the 97th. It’s an open seat and even though the district leans Republican, I get the feeling that some voters may turn on the local GOP for the mess that has occurred with the Plainfield Park District.

The McHenry County Sheriff race between Independent Jim Harrison and Republican Bill Prim could be interesting too.

Comment by RoPo Ranger Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 4:37 pm

  29. Schilling-Bustos. Interesting rematch. Polar opposite philosophies. Schilling very competent. Not sure Bustos is…..

Comment by Peoria guy Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 4:39 pm

  30. Assuming local means just that and not a state wide race, I’m not following any because there really aren’t any local races where I live–all incumbents have little or no opposition.

    Comment by G'Kar Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 5:27 pm

  31. Bustos-Schilling.

Schilling was defeated by newcomer Bustos partly because of his dishonest campaign ads last time. It will be interesting to see if she, as an incumbent now, has enough strength to hold off a former incumbent.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 5:38 pm

  32. Crespo v. Juarez. The challenger is telling.people he’s ahead in the polls, though he got only 30% last time. Crespo may no longer be walking constantly, but does he have to in this NW Cook district? On the other hand, it is state GOP chairman Schneider’s home turf

Comment by Anon Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 6:10 pm

  33. Mussman v Moynihan. Musman won by 20 points in her first re-election. She has never stopped walking. If she buries this latest challenger in a Republican year, perhaps Republicans will realize they ain’t getting this district back.

Comment by Anon Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 6:17 pm

  34. Don Gerard v. the world in Champaign - election isn’t till April, but you can’t tell.

Now that I think about it, all things politic in and from Champaign are fun to watch right now.

Comment by Hamilton Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 8:25 pm

  35. 1. The assembly seat in champaign. Can a GOPer beat a dem on their own turf? One of the few races where my party puts the electable person on the ballot and the Dems don’t.

    2. The Springfield mayoral race.

    3. Rahm vs Karen

    4. Jacobs.

    5. 3 separate congressional races featuring gay republican challengers.

Comment by Modest proposal Tuesday, Jul 22, 14 @ 10:59 pm

  36. Suarez vs Cook…. In 2010 the St Clair FEMS & Gomric barely pull that race out. Without East St Louis they lose that race. The question is will St Clair finally lose with the drag from Quinn and the bad press from Judges on heroin to ODing on coke. This will be interesting to watch.

  37. Dems not Fems …. Stupid autocorrect.
