After Republican billionaire Bruce Rauner this week delivered a passionate defense of profiting by shipping American jobs overseas, and more efforts to avoid taxes in the Cayman Islands was revealed, the Democratic Governors Association released a new web ad Thursday highlighting that when Rauner gets ahead, Illinois gets left behind.
As reported by the Chicago Sun Times, the web ad includes audio of recent news broadcasts addressing Rauner’s Caymans scheme and his history of outsourcing. As well, the video includes mention of the outright fraud that has occurred at Rauner-related companies.
“Rauner’s business practices are aimed at enriching a privileged few at the expense of the economic well-being of others,” said Rikeesha Phelon of the Democratic Governors Association. “Voters shouldn’t expect his philosophy to be any different if he were elected governor.”

Earlier this week, the Rauner campaign shot back at the outsourcing issue with this: “The fact is Pat Quinn is invested in the Caymans and has engaged in business outsourcing as governor,” said Rauner spokesman Mike Schrimpf “Pat Quinn has clearly reached all out desperation mode with his new false and misleading attack. Only a failed governor who wants to cover up his own record of tax hikes and job losses would make outrageous claims like these.”

A bit busy in delivery, the sound effects seem “too cute” when the message itself probably sells it better, and words covering Rauner’s face really add nothing, especially nothing ominous.
Without sound? Meh, but really “Meh minus”.
It’s a scatterbrained 30 seconds of images tied together with flash transitions.

Too bad too few will see the “Meh”, or maybe not.

I give it a B. Why? A lot of Illinois voters think this is an important issue. The polls are tightening , Rauner better watch out because it’s not clear he has his base locked down. Plus, Illinois has thousands of people who support socialism over capitalism.

And if nobody’s noticed, a good portion of Downstate has been outsourced. The polling might show this is hitting home.
These guys on both sides don’t make these JUST to be jerks (that’s a big part of the appeal though). They’re almost as effective as they are fun to make.

Illinois really gets left behind on account of its anti-business climate, high taxes, and, dare we say it aloud, poor public schools. Some businesses have relocated because the schools have not produced high school graduates who are readily employable in comparison to other states.
Many people have diplomas that do not mean too much.

I like the ad and give it an A. Short, sweet, uncomplicated, and to the point. It’s hard to promote a candidate who gets rich at the expense of others. Rauner gets very rich, while middle Americans get poorer.

I rate this video a B-, because I don’t like it when people use unnamed sources. It lessens the video’s credibility, in my opinion.

Back with the liberalism=socialism false equivalence argument, I see.
That’s so not the case, but I wasted my time arguing this with a family member, who is still entrenched in this irrationality.
Just to be clear, again, socialism is government ownership of the private sector. Nothing like that is happening in Illinois or America. Walk down the street and see how many businesses are owned by the government, and you’ll see the true state of socialism in America.
Some people use the socialism argument not for its merits, but as propaganda and a talking point to attack the other side. The others who eat this up simply don’t understand what is socialism.
I asked real socialists if Obama is a socialist, and they all said no way. Some even strongly dislike him and think he’s a corporatist sell out.

D-. Only appeals to the people who are already voting for Quinn. For the disillusioned base that isn’t voting, this gives them no incentive to get out and vote. The whole problem with the outsourcing line of attack is that doesn’t make a clear connection as to how these policies translate to a bad governor. His past bites about shutting things down for awhile, etc., make an obvious translation to the governor’s office, thus better lines of attack.

Every single ID’d “plus” is going to matter for the Rauner Crew. Every one. And remember, as Rauner tries to go deep enough with Dems (Saw Diana Rauner Ad twice this morning) the Crew must make sure that swap of voters is the winning cake.

Probably hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans are dyed in the wool socialists, while challenged MILLIONS in Illinois are “liberals”.
You’re right. They’re different. Liberals just want to take MOST of what the “makers” EARN and give it to the takers and their political cronies (like Krupp and Messerschmidt, BMW and Daimler in the German “National Socialist Party”).
True socialists want it ALL for redistribution, and they want to nationalize all income producing businesses. Just like Hugo Chavez who bankrupted Venvezuela through the inherent corruption and incompetence in a government run economy. That’s a small group in Illinois.
Most Illinoisans prefer the liberal approach. That way they let the “makers” do the heavy lifting and take the risk, and they just swoope in and fill their pockets.
The exception here is the liberal desire for the city to own and operate a casino, where the partonage and cronyism political value of government ownership FAR outweighs Rahm’s desire for profitable management of it.

Rauner needs to run ads that highlight several Illinois communities with the highest unemployment level where Pat Quinn has CLOSED the unemployment officef (this calendar year . . . . .I’m not kidding). You really can’t make this stuff up.
Rauner standing in front of the padlocked former office and stating “The next time this office will be closed is when it is no longer needed”.
Rauner making $$$ for himself is one thing . . . . . the Governor giving up on those in the most challenged communities is quite another . . . . . .shameful . . . . indefensible . . . . hits John Q. Public in his/her OWN pocket book. Show the populist a little dose of populism.

Quinn needs to stop making a fool of himself. Did his campaign folks check the facts.
In 2013 Quinn outsourced almost 10% of union jobs from AFSCME Local 2600. He did this through Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA’s)with states such as Michigan. If you look by at the Capitol bill it put forward a plan that uses IGA’s to get cheaper products and services including labor. He took that bill and expanded upon it to spend almost 2.9 Billion dollars without legislative oversight.
I know…. Where am i going with this?
For the Good of Illinois performed a six month investigation with Illinois Leaks into the outsourcing of union jobs. Quinn’s office snubbed their nose at the group and Kirk Allen with IL Leaks filed a FOIA lawsuit. The state hid the documents and was caught red handed. The judge ruled they must give up the documents that clearly showed the outsourcing scandal with SLG Innovations whom is ran by Ed Burns. You may remember Ed Burns because he was charged with federal crimes when he was with CIBER Inc. Ed and his team were known to pay off politicians. Ed’s team is in Fed Pen right now for election rigging.
The H1B visa workers work for Cognizant and are programming the new Medicaid Management Information System. So why is Quinn making an issue of outsourcing when he himself no only know but approved of the outsourcing out of the country for government jobs?
Rauner runs multiple companies that do business everywhere in the world and is a business man with no restrictions on labor. He at least has a reason for what he does. Additionally, most corporations that do international business have accounts in the caymens or belize because they speak english and they are easy to work with and have friendly laws that protect your foreign profits.
Quinn is throwing grenades but forgetting that if you wait 5 seconds you get hurt yourself. No one is buying into this.

I’m not retired ironic, and it’s likely I never will if my health holds up. When you take my working credit off of SSC, I’ll probably just about break even. As I understand it, under the current system, if you SSC at 70, you don’t break even unless you live until you’re at least 78 if you’re taking MAX benefits.
When you compare the tax burden vs direct paymentsover a lifetime, I’m a maker who’s overpaying the government takers in a big way. I’m paying far more than my “fair share” as most of the top 15% do.

I saw one poll that was taken after these type of ads came out, showing that Rauner’s lead over Quinn was reduced. I would like to see some more polls after these ads have been out for a while.
We still have the possible or likely nursing home ads that are yet to come out, and any combo of “I want to run the state like a business” type of ads along with the “Sgt. Schultz” of Rauner not knowing what his companies were doing during the horrible tragedies.

Total tax burden is not the same as SS witholdings dope. You can make $10 Million a year, and you’ll pay the exact same amount as the guy that makes $117,000 where SS withholding stops. So techinally, as a % of income high wage earners pay proportionally less than lower income workers.
I suppose though, you’re one of the “Keep the Govt out of my Medicare” folks though. Enjoy AZ, Il is better for it.

Anonymous - on the door of the closed offices is the State seal and the Governors name. Blaming it on the Feds is convenient but weak. Closing the offices in the communities with the highest unemployment crosses the line of incompetence into mean spirited.
The budget and funding is a matter of priorities. Throwing the unemployed under the bus while spending $54 million on bogus violence prevention programs is EASY to understand by those who are struggling.
Illinois is a blue State. Your guy is Governor, President and on and on and on. Patronage, insider dealings, corruption, et. al . haven’t been a problem in the past. Closing offices in communities with 14% unemployment at the time is what it is . . . . ugly. Paired with a horrendous record in relation to the business climate, those displaced from the workforce could make a strong case for moral bankruptcy in relation to this entire subject matter.

OW - is this your defense of closing unemployment offices in the communities with the highest unemployment? The Quinn administration have been masters at moving dollars in and out of GRF, “finding” $$$ where none exists for programs and projects they favor, etc. Supplemental appropriation bills are routine with this bunch.
If you don’t care about this dynamic, fine. But at least try with a response. The lack of effort here is not up to your usual quality standards.

What ever happened to that killer ad that so many on this blog said would knock Rauner out of the primary? We’re all still waiting. They should just play it already and get this whole election over with. If the bomb is as big as so many people were promising for weeks and weeks I can wait to see it. Enough with the suspense. A lot of people I’m sure haven’t heard of Bruce Rauner until recently. We will know sometime soon if these ads are helping define him and are bringing his numbers down, beside the one recent poll.
Another thing I didn’t like about this add is the bubble-popping sound. It’s annoying. I’d prefer a scarier, more somber sound.

I was detained, and this time it wasn’t by “Oswego’s Finest”.
To give you the full attention you require, let’s look at this pragmatically. Those offices, are they a symbol of what happening, or what has happened?
The Fed’s role in those buildings really go to the national narrative of the Feds not meeting state’s needs. What if there is correspondence asking for those buildings to remain open? See, mixing the metaphor isn’t helping either candidate, and might make Rauner seem out if touch with intergovernmental affairs. It’s possible, so let that image just fester on its own, or passively as a reminder, not a beacon of anything of substance.

Much correspondence in relation to many of these closings. Most closed in January . . . . . .the game plan for handling the work load, phone calls, transportation needs et. al. reasonably could be categorized as a catastrophe (the Director himself agreed that the go forward plan was ill conceived and the volume unanticipated) . . . . .bad optics all around . . . . .
