Well, Billionaire Bruce Rauner’s thought of a few things.

Rauner’s tax plan would cut his own income taxes by more than a million bucks.

And guess who’s paying for it?

Rauner’s plan would force cuts to schools and lay off 1 out of every 6 teachers.

Is that what we need in a governor?

Pat Quinn thinks that Bruce Rauner’s money isn’t “his ” money but the government’s. The state is God on earth for lifetime politicians like Pat Quinn. Just imagine if Pat Quinn wasn’t so greedy and promised to give back some of that public sector pension he has coming his way: the state of Illinois would be in better shape.

So, Steve, why is Rauner’s excess millions in profit more “his” than the middle-classes flailing wages “theirs”?

It’s incredibly difficult to feel sorry for someone like Rauner, who could have his wages cut to 1/10th of what they are, and still make out alright. Choose another grievance.

It’s not the paying out that seems to be the problem, for a while, it was the state paying in, or choosing not to, has been the problem.

Please make sure you add Union Bosses next time, because it’s no fun if you don’t say Career Politicians without Union Bosses.

I don’t feel sorry for anyone. I’m just stating facts: the state of Illinois has no money - they get it from people who PAY taxes. Not consume taxes. What would happen to Illinois if people like Bruce Rauner stopped withholding every year?? As far as “middle fingers” go: those higher tolls and state incomes on EVERYONE shows the compassion of Pat Quinn for the working men and women of the state of Illinois.

Many (if not most) state workers get Social Security; at least those that are part of SERS. TRS pensioners don’t and I’m not sure about SURS or GARS.

Bruce “The Baron” Rauner has been paid MILLIONS in ’state money’. Far more than Quinn, or any ’state worker’ will ever be paid in their lifetimes. In fact, if it wasn’t for ’state money’ Brucie might only be a mere millionaire, not billionaire.

I do realize that some state workers don’t get Social Security. I also realize that some state workers do get Social Security because they worked 40 quarters in the private sector. My only point, and I’m not a Bruce Rauner fan, is at least he’s a big tax payer . No one can dispute that. Bruce Rauner has paid way more in taxes than Pat Quinn- who’s been a lifetime drain on taxpayers.

It’s a little on the mild side for me. Quinn needs to show the huge and frightening consequences of Rauner’s tax and revenue ideas–especially because they would benefit the super-wealthy at the expense of so many others.

I think it is grossly unfair to call a person who works in the public sector “a lifetime drain on taxpayers.” My spouse proudly taught 35 years in an inner city Illinois school, dedicated much of her life to public education. You had better not ever call her a “lifetime drain on taxpayers” within arm’s length of me.

It’s not really a good ad. If you can speak and understand fluency in Spanish, it’s really not good. The ad was concepted in an Anglo mindset and then simply translated. For fun, watch the ads on Telemundo and the difference will become apparent quickly. It’s not a connector. Mexican people (the largest majority of Latinos here) don’t resent wealth and have often grown up in an environment where it is accepted as a birthright in their home country. Often they see these people more in terms of job providers. They will generally not connect to tax rates. They generally consider them the cost of employment and like everyone else, try to pay whatever the minimum they can in this instance. This ad may create more admiration than disdain. Should’ve used a Latino agency to do this. Clearly they didn’t. Wrong concept. Wrong execution. And worst of all; wrong issue.

So what? That qualifies him to be Governor? I don’t give a crap how much in taxes somebody pays. It doesn’t make them better or worse than anybody else. I don’t see a point anywhere in that statement.

Also, @Steve, if you think Bruce Rauner is going to be able to keep any of his promises with regard to revenues then I’ve got a unicorn to sell you.

Based on your extensive knowledge of Mexican-American culture, do you still believe that Rauner getting rich and as a result teachers getting fired will pay well in that community?

Great Ad! This message shows the cuts Rauner will have if elected. Education is a priority for Latinos, and taking away teachers is a NO NO! Nicely done!

Hey, know what makes me sad? Good teachers getting fired so that investors can make more millions. Different things make us sad, Responsa.

There is a difference between “he’s rich”, which be “class warfare” and “his tax plan will save him millions, while resulting in cuts to teachers” which is substance.

Moreover, Rauner began the “class warfare” thing with his $18 watch. He raised the issue. He claims he’s just like us. It is sort of ridiculous to whine (and yes, it is whining at this point) about class warfare while talking about the watch, and the van, etc.

I’m sure you shed many tears when Rauner demonized public unions and government workers as overpaid and corrupt, AFTER managing their pensions for many years and after making a gazillion times more money than them.

You might want to stay away from the video in which Rauner likens public unions to cancer. The grief would be too much.

It is, in fact, the central point of the ad. Rauner’s tax plan will save people like him millions, while teachers will be fired.

The tip off would be: “Rauner’s tax plan would cut his own income taxes by more than a million bucks” and “Rauner’s plan would force cuts to schools and lay off 1 out of every 6 teachers.” Now, I don’t speak Spanish, so I’m counting on the translation. But if the translation is correct, those phrases were from the ad.

Here’s a hint — watch the entire ad, and then comment. It makes the comments far more interesting.

Gooner I do try to neither make, or take, comments too personally here. Just so you know, I did in fact watch the entire ad before I commented as I always do when rating or commenting on political ads. I understand and accept that you are OK with the logic stream presented in this ad. I am not OK with the logic stream or sequence as was presented in this ad or as you paraphrased (the this–because of this, conclusion). I’d like to think I am entitled to having this opinion without being insulted or attacked.

Responsa, this is the first time that you claimed some factual or logical issue with the ad.

You first said it was class warfare, and that made you sad.

When I pointed out that it had to do with teachers being fired, you seemed to express surprise that those were themes in the ad.

And now you have a third line of attack on it.

That’s fascinating, but I admit, it makes me sad.

Sling and Gooner, we have been asked, as we often are, to rate an ad. In this case, Mr. Miller was kind enough to provide an English translation for those who are not fluent in Spanish.

I made a case for why the ad was a poor execution based on it’s objective. I believe the objective to be “grinding home a message that will resonate and appeal to Latinos, more specifically Mexican Latinos who represent the majority of Spanish speaking people in this community.

I dared to rely on a little experience to share that the ad was concepted and written in an Anglo fashion and then simply translated. You can translate language, and still completely miss the idea, if your target isn’t predisposed to thinking about something in the same manner you assume. Gooner is convinced they hit the bulls eye with this. I’m equally convinced they missed the target and the bale of hay surrounding it. I only think this because the targeted community has tendencies and preferences like many other communities. In marketing they call them demos, short for Demographic trends.

In Slingerville, they call them stereotypes, and perhaps the most intelligent person on this blog rolls over and plays like Mr. Gump. He knows better, but occasionally that great intelligence he truly possesses in overcome by the equal dose of arrogance he is regularly blessed with. Then Gooner joins forces. If it hit Gooner with such great impact and he’s not a Mexican Latino who’s first language is Spanish, then Gooner’s either standing in front of the Bull’s Eye, or he’s like the mascot in Bull Durham and the message has missed completely. I’m betting on the latter.
