Quinn campaign calls Republicans on Audit Commission “Witch Hunt Leaders”

Posted in:

* From a Quinn campaign e-mail entitled “GOP Witch Hunt Leaders’ Voting Records on Public Safety Issues”…

Senator Jason Barickman

· Voted against the Violence Prevention Task Force (98th - HB 2879 – one of only 4 Senators to vote “no”)

· Voted against the Grant Transparency and Accountability Act (98th - HB 2747)

· 92 rating by NRA in 2012

· Voted against most measures to help ex-offenders get jobs after incarceration ends

Representative Ron Sandack

· 83 rating by NRA in 2012

Representative David Reis

· Voted against the Violence Prevention Task Force (98th - HB 2879 – one of only 6 Representatives to vote “no”)

· 100 rating by NRA in 2012

· Voted against most measures to help ex-offenders get jobs after incarceration ends

· Voted against common-sense public safety measures

· Voted against creating the Department of Juvenile Justice (94th - SB 92)

· Voting against creating the Racial Profiling Prevention and Data Oversight Act (94th - SB 2368)

I’m wondering now if the phrase “witch hunt” will come up during tonight’s gubernatorial debate.

  1. That’s all they can find on Ron Sandack?

  2. Personally targeting individual members of the Audit Commission?

    Interesting choice.

  3. Valid points. These Repubs don’t care about the minority or urban communities. This is an opportunity for them to score some political points. Bottom Line. Their voting record speaks for itself!

Comment by Voice of Reason Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 12:45 pm

  4. Bama nails it!

They should’ve found more dirt or glossed over Sandack and infer guilt by association.

Comment by Jocko Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 12:49 pm

  5. FKA: It is the GOP members on the LAC that have turned this into a sideshow. They are also the ones who promised fireworks (Ron Sandack tweeting the night before where you could watch the hearing).

  6. If and when Rauner tries to attack him on this issue saying he was trying to buy votes in the AA community, Quinn needs to move forcefully to point out that Rauner is doing the same thing. But, while he is trying to save lives, Rauner is bribing credit unions with cash.

  7. I can see why Sandack squeaked by in the primary. Tough talk for a guy without much of a voting record to back up his GOPer cred.

    Comment by Toure's Latte Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:00 pm

  8. I would only add, very poor witch hunters.

Barickman and Sandack have officially moved into embarrassing buffoon territory.

  9. Oh, man, this is a very bad move in my opinion.

  10. So much for the theme, there’s no there, there. They doth protest too much.

Would have been smarter to not do this.

  11. I watched a little before the feed seemed to drop for me. All I got out of it was that the governor was trying to stem the rising tide of violence in Chicago. The program was poorly managed as was found by an audit. The governor seeing that the program was not being managed properly, shut down the program.

That’s what good governors do, isn’t it? They try to fix problems, and if the solutions don’t show the results they think they should, they shut down those programs.

The interesting thing about these hearings is that I am learning much more about this NRI program that I really hadn’t heard a thing about before.

It seems to me that if the Republicans on the committee had their way, we would have put more cops on the street instead and maybe had our own Ferguson on our hands.

  12. Not sure about this tactic? I’ll go with the witch hunt if it helps… But this witch hunt is about a failed program rushed out for a yet unknown reason. We do know that the program does not account for a whole lot of money… The response certainly will focus on that… And the feds.. And the recent request by the feds…again.. Why poke a bear in the eye?

  13. I’m disappointed their NRA numbers aren’t 100%!

  15. Any worries about Bruce’s past comments on the General Assembly GOP members should be forgotten compared to personally targeting members of a commission that is investigating him.

Comment by kj Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:15 pm

  16. How dare Sandack vote for something that the Federal Courts said must be implemented!! Its like he is following the law of the land, as Quinn would say.

Comment by Happy Gun Owner Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:19 pm

  17. Quinn should be asked if he thinks the Fed’s investigation is a “witch hunt” too.

Comment by Birdseed Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:21 pm

  18. The Quinn internal polling must be showing that this issue is a potential re-election killer for him to go after individual committee members.

Comment by Reader Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:22 pm

  19. In answer to your last line Rich, the over/under of PQ using “witch hunt” is currently at 3.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:23 pm

  20. As Birdseed said, it looks like the FBI’s Salem field office is in on this so-called “witch hunt.” The fact that there is an open federal investigation takes this out of the realm of broomsticks and cauldrons.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:23 pm

  21. Birdseed… I am certain the feds will be thinking the same thing… The last two Govs were as arrogant… For our sake, I hope history doesn’t repeat. If it does, well deserved. Pat may have had a Golden ticket if no major blows were landed.. The counter is going to be much worse than the offensive….

Comment by Walter Mitty Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:24 pm

  22. And.. Brady said witch hunt… Drinking game should have been started… There’s always tonight!

Comment by Walter Mitty Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 1:39 pm

  23. MrJM, you are making me laugh out loud

Comment by Soccermom Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:08 pm

  24. Searching the Google for when Rod called his Fed investigation a witch hunt. Give me time.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:20 pm

  25. Stupid to make these individualized attacks.

Everybody knows there’s an election, and that half the committee is Republican.

Quinn and team are doing okay without this kind of pushback. Over the top.

Comment by walker Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:22 pm

  26. Good point by anonymous, Quinn clearly has no respect for the Wiccan community.

Comment by mcb Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:28 pm

  27. Shoulda known this one.

January 28, 2009-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich refused to attend for a second day his impeachment trial before the State Senate, calling the proceedings a “political witch hunt.” (WaPo)

Comment by Arthur Andersen Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:31 pm

  28. Should make the conclusion of the LAC hearing interesting

Comment by Soccertease Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:33 pm

  29. You can tell who this stuff is aimed when they use a good NRA ratings as evidence of how bad someone is. Apparently Quinn believes the NRA is pro-violence.
I would wonder if Mike Madigan and the other democrats who voted for concealed carry are also pro-violence.

Comment by mcb Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:35 pm

  30. Quinn didn’t need to tune up these guys. They’re doing good work for him without his help.

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 2:56 pm

  31. Thank you!

    Comment by Mighty M. Mouse Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 3:29 pm

  32. A 92 rating from the NRA, how shocking! No word yet from Jon Burge of Chicago Police torture fame on this story, because Pat Quinn feels safe knowing only the police should have handguns.

Comment by Steve Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 3:55 pm

  33. Hey - A Guy… -,

    You like apples?

===So much for the theme, there’s no there, there. They doth protest too much.

The Rauner dupes folded their tents,

How do you like those apples?

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 4:36 pm

  34. How many NRA points are given for a witch hunt?

Comment by OurMagician Thursday, Oct 9, 14 @ 4:41 pm

  35. Umm, NRA doesn’t do percentages. We give letter grades. So not sure on how they scored this cause they missed some.
