McSweeney comes out swinging - Updated x2

Posted in:

It has begun:

Republicans began rolling out their initial blitz aimed at Democratic U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean with a TV ad attacking her on health care and two mail pieces criticizing her on immigration and gas prices.

The National Republican Campaign Committee’s ad, airing only on cable, takes Barrington’s Bean to task for voting against a medical malpractice measure that would have capped pain-and-suffering damages and attorneys’ fees.

“Our health care system is on life support, and guess who doesn’t seem to care: Congresswoman Melissa Bean,” an announcer’s voice says as stock images of a heart monitor flat-lining play out. Republicans argue that lawsuit reform will lower rising health-care costs. […]

McSweeney mailed out his first two attack mail pieces early this week. Taking a page out of the national GOP playbook, McSweeney hits Bean on immigration, claiming she’s “straddling the fence.”

Anyone have these mailers?

Also, you can see video from the last candidate’s forum in the race on this page.

UPDATE: Thanks to a very good pal, I now have the two McSweeney mailers. Both are pdf files. Immigration and energy policy.

And check out the awful photos of Bean that McSweeney is using.

UPDATE 2: Apparently, that lousy photo came from Bean’s own site. lol

  1. Ricardo, I did get 2 pieces from Roskam (NRCC). One is a “Twilight Zone” piece on Duckworth’s immigration and “amnesty” position…I think it is lossely based on (Vernon) Robinson’s twighlight ad. The other piece was another ad criticizing Duckworth on tax repealing. My enighbors had the George Ryan ad in their recycling bin. I’d send them, but I belive they were discarded.

  2. PS. he should have used that stock picture of the girl in a wheel chair in a hospital bed.

  3. I don’t know where David Mcsweeney goes for his gasoline. But in the 8th District the price of gas has dropped 50 cents the last couple of weeks.

  4. McSweeney: Don’t vote for Bean — SHE’S FAT!

The GOP runs ads in C6 showing a screaming woman, they label Duckworth as unstable, and then these ads.

Looks like a deliberate strategy to me.

And then they wonder about the gender gap.

  5. Skeet, you called her fat. I think it is a picture of her waiving at a parade..possibly. Anyone who could decide that she is fat after looking at that picture is crazy. it looks more like an awkward wave with a goofy facial expression than anything. But I am certain that many voters in the 6th/8th are not as sensitive/paranoid as you so the only way these claims will fly is if the media/dems make some false issue out of it. Need proof, Urkel is racist? the rolling pingate, so on and so forth. Get some thicker skin.

  6. Wow, skeeter. She looks “fat” in those photos? No wonder teenage girls are developing eating disorders.

  7. Wumpus — GOP:

    Right.

    She looks great. My bad.

The GOP was trying to show what a fine looking person she is.

Just like the ad in C6 showed a calm and gentle person reading that bill.

With views like yours there will continue to be a gender gap for quite a while.

  8. Skeeter,

I’m not saying she should pic that photo for her Christmas card this year, but she doesn’t look “fat.” That’s all I was saying.

It’s pretty standard procedure for campaigns in any party to use less than flattering picture of your opponents in ads criticizing them. Are you suggesting that female candidates should be immune from such treatment? If so, why?

  9. thank’s for the update, Rich. HA!!!

  10. Still, an interesting choice for McSweeney.

  11. A side note:

Those photos actually show a C8 rep IN HER DISTRICT!

Wow. A lot has changed in two years.

  12. Sket, learn to read. I never said it was flattering, it just does not make her look fat. You are entirely too sensitive, you make things up and now you cannot read/comprehend. You are just so extreme in your sensitivities. Toughen up.
That is great and novel idea that she is in her district, now if she would live there.

  13. If McSweeney is paying $4.79 for gas, I wonder how he plans to spend my tax $$$? Maybe he should try the Citgo at Quentin & Rand Rd — the one by his campaign office. He’ll save himself a buck a gallon.

Comment by illinoisEDDI Wednesday, Sep 13, 06 @ 3:55 pm

  14. CITGO is associated with the government of Hugo Chavez.

No self respecting Republican like Mr. McSweeney would buy gas there.
