Same song, different century

* I couldn’t embed it, so click the pic for a brief video of then Illinois Treasurer Pat Quinn campaigning at Eli’s Cheesecake Factory for then Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton in 1992. Quinn could’ve given that same speech today, right down to the “Make the will of the people the law of the land” line. Today’s speech might be longer, however, since he’s now governor. You can skip the first 45 seconds or so if you want

  2. Seeing Bill eating makes me think of that SNL bit of him at McDonnald’s…

  3. Uh - If I click the photo, do I have to listen to him too?

  4. Quinn proving he can actually hammer home his talking points in a short speech!

  5. Funny you put this up, I saw this a few weeks ago digging around for stuff on Bill and Pat because at the time FLOTUS was scheduled, POTUS had been here once, and Hillary scheduled, but no word on anything Bill. Of course, that visit ended up being this week.

  6. Unlike Bruce Rauner, the more I learn about Pat Quinn, the more I like him. He has spent his life working for regular people, and the record is there to prove it. Bruce Rauner has spent his life profiting from others misfortune. I believe that Bruce is a genuinely bad person, and I believe that the voters are seeing that as well.

  8. When Quinn’s awake, he can actually give a pretty good speech. The “Until the will of the people is the law of the Land” ending to many of his speeches Quinn lifted from Republican Progressive, former Wisconsin Governor and Senator, “Fighting Bob” La Follette. La Follette died in 1925 and we are still waiting.

  9. Look at all that hair! Funny that everyone else has a hair net on, but not the pols. After Dukakis rode in the tank wearing that stupid helmut, you couldn’t put a lid on any politician for like a decade.

  10. Interesting to see that he is stuck in the same old tired mode and hasn’t grown. Sad. That old record is broken…look at the fine mess it’s gotten us in to!

  11. It’s the same PQ. He’s got he same schtick and uses too many words to deliver the message. He hasn’t matured one bit. Seeing this reminded me of why we really do need a change, even if I’m not sold that Rauner is the guy.

  12. There’s ‘ol Pat singing the National Anthem again. It’s the only way he can keep the audience from walking out.

  13. Funny after 22 years the Dems are still talking about the same issues. They haven’t fixed anything.

Comment by Reality Friday, Oct 24, 14 @ 2:55 pm

  14. In all seriousness any smart pol would copy what Quinn said on that day and deliver the same speech for the next 20 years! Pitch perfect!

  15. @Reality

My sincerest apologies for this horrid democracy, with its general assembly, differences of opinion, obstructionism, politics, and a series of previously awful govs who got a lot done to destroy Illinois. So Sorry.

  16. Just think he lost shortly after that in the Bill Clinton mid term referendum election that saw a Republican land slide. Let’s hope that this election is not a repeat of 1994.

  17. That was kind of a nice tie he was wearing.

  18. Call me crazy, but I think that was better than any speech he’s given this cycle (that I’ve heard, anyway).

Similar content, but there’s way more poise and conviction in 1992 Pat Quinn.

If he still talked that way (and if I could find a way to believing the tax reduction line) maybe I could find a way to vote for him.
