* Bernie has yet another tale of reform and renewal.

About 173,000 state-licensed professionals have been sent postcards, including a nice note from Gov. ROD BLAGOJEVICH, inviting them to renew their licenses - when the time comes - by computer.

That might seem like an election-year ploy to get the governor’s name in front of voters several weeks before an election. But a state spokeswoman denies it, and it could have been worse.

That’s because about 1.2 million people are licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, but only the 173,000 whose licenses are up for renewal in the fiscal year that began July 1 were sent the postcards. That’s less than 15 percent of the 1.2 million.

  1. Regarding the licensing issue: having set the house on fire they now want credit for showing up with the fire truck

  2. Another fun read in the Trib today… http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0609140244sep14,1,2440658.story?coll=chi-newslocal-hed

  4. There is no need for any Hospital whether it’s named Stroger or Jenny Jones to have their own police department.

The County police department should be disbanned and those “officers” should be allowed to apply for Sheriff’s positions.

The county should hire a security agency to secure the county just as other hospitals do throughout the state.

Bobbie Steel should disban this unnecessary police department. I have first hand knowledge of their unprofessionalism not to mention the segment reported on FOX News last night.

  5. Wow. Can’t imagine anyone at the good ole Sun-Times would use a stupid headline to dig at the Stroger clan. Stroger guards? Not Hospital guards? County guards? Any combination of terms.

The only thing that stinks worse than what goes on at County government is the Chicago media’s coverage of it. Media: “Go Forrest Go! Oops, he lost. Um, Go Tony Go! Oops, he’s an idiot. Ah well, Go Tony Go anyway! Because (whimper!) we don’t like how Todd was chosen! And thats what matters.”

  6. The guv. has been very busy these last few months with his postcard and other mailings. Name any of his initiative and I bet someone in the state has received at least one mailing from him. Way to go, Milarod - getting free campaign literature in front of the public while your millions collect interest. What a piece of work you are.

  7. I received one of those wonderful postcards with Rod Blagojevich’s name once in large type on the front and his signature and printed name on the back. You can certainly tell who is running for reelection - Dean Martinez, IDRPR Secretary shows up in much smaller type, and only once rather than three time. The postcard is full color - but the main title on the front is pretty fuzzy. Glad my license renewal money is being spent on post cards instead of enforcing the licensure laws in Illinois.
