Rate JBT’s TV ad

Posted in:

* This is her positive ad. She’s also running a “response ad,” but I don’t yet have that one. Anyway, here you go

  1. Fabulous.
You couldn’t put together a better looking set up - a yard sale. Topinka so fits that look and almost every voter can relate to what she is saying.

    A+

  2. It’s a B add but ABC or D won’t matter Simon has Zero chance.
A better would have been her standing in front of the Capitol and saying ” You should have voted for me when I ran for governor and we wouldn’t have this mess”. ” Don’t make the same mistake twice. I’m JBT and I approve this add”
That’s all she would need to say.

  3. It’s an “A” for sure. If you know JBT at all, you know that she probably found the yard sale to shoot that ad, making it an A+ ad.

  4. Meh, nothing to do with her office, but ok. When you run for comptroller or treasurer you have to say something.

Comment by Wordslinger Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 1:23 pm

  5. what Wordslinger said. but I will say that as an avid shopper of recycled goods, this ad does not speak to my sense of that kind of shopping adventure. it’s too pristine.

  6. Unlike most political ads, this represents the real Judy. She does shop 2nd hand stores. Gotta love her.

Comment by Norseman Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 1:33 pm

  7. A+ Captures Judy perfectly

    Comment by Max's Mom Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 1:37 pm

  8. Judy has crafted a unique and believable persona over the years-thrift shopper, honest public servant, careful with money, normal person, sense of humor. And she sticks with it consistently and burnishes it knowing that people relate to her as a person more than an office. That was even an inexpensive ad to style and shoot– proving Judy doesn’t waste campaign money either! A.

  9. Pass. Though I’d be tempted to be really thrifty in this race and not run any.

  10. I love it, but then again, I really like JBT and I love yard sales. However, she looks out of place at the yard sale; she needs to be in a T-shirt and shorts or other comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, gym shoes, with a fanny pack strapped to her waist, and a large recyclable bag in which to carry her treasures. (My mom was an avid yard saler, she insisted on wearing the awful fanny packs because it freed up both hands to grab stuff and kept her money close to her person). The whole “dressed to the 9s” look seems a little out of place.

    Love the ad. Very JBT.

  12. B+.

But where’s the cup of gas station coffee with the lipstick-stained straw?

Comment by Raymond Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 2:10 pm

  13. I would have chosen the stuffed camel over the lamp, but either way I’ll take JBT.

    Comment by Lionel R Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 2:26 pm

  14. It is so Judy, and does not matter what SS does, she is toast!!

Comment by Anonymous Retiree Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 2:27 pm

  15. She didn’t need to even run any ad, Judy would beat Shelia in a landslide.

Comment by DuPage Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 2:50 pm

  16. Doesn’t need to mix it up with SS. Stay above the fray. She will be declared the winner at 7:01 Tuesday (along with LM and JW).

Comment by Bogey Golfer Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 2:57 pm

  17. I think it’s great. There is no need to go negative, just remind voters that she’s running. In that sense, it serves its purpose. I think she looks good in the ad too.

Comment by Because I said so..... Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:00 pm

  18. Here is the straight dope, just the way Comptroller Topinka rolls too ;

A :15 second Ad that crystallized a real persona that people trust and believe in, with two price tags having “5″ for repetition, a mini state capitol with the backlog, and talking to the voter, with great, honestly, great music in the background 7 seconds with Comptroller Topinka, holding a lamp…

    Genius.

Frugal with time and message, symbolic of her, the office, the state, talking to voters, being herself.

    “A”

    Questions?

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:07 pm

  19. Oh, I forgot…

Endorsements, perfectly placed in time and script.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:11 pm

  20. Bye bye SS. Game, set match.

Comment by Capt. Von Trapp Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:21 pm

  21. A+

Other than Rodney Davis’s ads that featured his kids and Mike Frerich’s ad that poked fun at his height, this is the best ad all season.

  22. I bet she actually bought that lamp.

Comment by Judge Cooked Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:32 pm

  24. Sweet!

Comment by walker Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 3:55 pm

  25. I like how it is short and sweet and not overly annoying.

Comment by Just Me Wednesday, Oct 29, 14 @ 6:15 pm

  26. I’m just asking but why didn’t she run for Governor? Did Rauner and his money scare her away too? The way it looks now she could have measured curtains months ago.
