Question of the day

Posted in:

* The ILGOP is running a TV ad touting Bruce Rauner’s support for “employer-provided birth control,” which is in response to a Personal PAC ad saying Rauner opposes it.

While airing those ads, the ILGOP is sending out mailers and doing robocalls blasting Libertarian Chad Grimm for being for gay marriage and belonging to a party that’s pro-choice.

* Meanwhile, Gov. Quinn’s running mate and other Democrats are holding a press conference blasting Rauner for essentially paying for those ILGOP pro-life, anti gay marriage mailers.

But the ILGOP is sending those mailers and doing those robocalls because some labor unions, which are also huge Quinn supporters, are spending big bucks to bolster the Libertarian Grimm by hammering Rauner in mail and robocalls for being pro-choice and anti-gun.

Got all that?

Good…

* The Question: Have you lost your mind yet? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please.

  1. My cork popped some time ago, but I find it strange that we try to distinguish between the IL GOP and the Rauner Campaign. Where does one end and the other begin? Schneider has some independence from Rauner, but the vast majority of the money Schneider is spending is coming from Rauner personally.

    It’s a distinction without a differnce.

  2. The real question is what does Evelyn Sanguinetti
think of the whole thing? After all, she and Brucie are tied at the hip, and she’s ‘all in’ if he’s in.

Is she really the pro-life-pro-choice running mate?

  3. I’m seeing some trends on Rauner’s platform. . .

He’s for one thing, and also for the direct opposite.

    Clever, man, clever.

  4. Have not popped my cork. But the little wire cage has definitely been taken off.

  5. Just like 47th, my cork popped a while back. If this isnt bad enough we also have to deal with McConnell / Grimes ads on tv. I early voted and think i should be pardoned from any more rhetoric from any campaign.

  6. This is almost as bad as when my kids get a hold of the pots and pans and decide to make “music”.

  7. Voted “No, I think Rauner, the ILGOP, Quinn and the unions are doing what they have to do.”

Then again, I was going to ask if I could change my name to “Holden Caulfield from Oswego”

    “Rauner is such a phony”

Comment by Oswego Willy Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 2:27 pm

  8. Popped, for sure.

Saw Grimm on Chicago Tonight last night. If you think Rauner can’t stand on an issue, you should see Grimm.

I know it was covered a while back, but you should probably add the part where Taxpayers for Quinn is airing the ad insinuating that Rauner kills babies for fun.

We deserve the government we get, good and hard.

  9. Campaigned for another GOP candidate for Governor in the primary. After 25 years of this stuff the thrill I think is gone. The constant email barrage getting hit up for dough from millionaires is really become exasperating. Like this received this morning from a millionaire ice cream candidate for U.S. Senate who in fairness I will not name:

“I need your help. Please make a generous last minute emergency donation to get us across the finish line.”

    Yea. Checks in the mail.

  10. The unions see Rauner as a risk so are attacking him at his right flank by using the Libertarian, smart move because he would tend to take anyone but Quinn votes vs anyone but Rauner votes. Smart move.

The Illinois GOP is defending him by pointing out how positions of the candidate and the Libertarian party in general would freak out the right. Overall voters have voted for the none of the above candidate for governor before, so hurting him is a logical approach…

The democrats using that to point out he is pointing out attacking someones social positions, some of which are in sync with democratic voters and some out of sync with others is logical. They are big in the money guilt by association thing this year.

It all makes sense to me and reminding me I picked the wrong election to stop sniffing glue…

  11. I suggest for your next musical offering:

“Dazed and Confused” by Led Zeppelin

  12. For God’s sake people, Roe V Wade was about a Constitutional Right to Privacy. Not some “lifestyle choice” of whether you want to have a baby or not. Thats a personal decision and the government has not business being involved.

    Remember Freedom and Liberty?

And if your “imaginary friend in the clouds” is against Abortion, then dont impregnate a woman or dont get pregnant if you are a woman. But leave the rest of us out of your “lifestyle”. Its your choice.

  13. “The biggest argument against democracy is a 5 minute discussion with the average voter”. Winston Churchill

That’s not fair. If the people that visit this site regularly can’t decipher a candidate’s position on many given issues, how can the average voter? That’s why I voted for option 4. It’s too late to counter anything that’s put out there. Caveat emptor.

  14. Cork popped. Who give a rats pants pumpkin about this stuff. What I want to know is what either of these snollygosters are really planning to do after the election.

  15. No, I have not lost my mind, Rich. But I am going trick-or-treating with my kids soon … in the snow.

  16. I’m through watching them, my ears have been bleeding for a month. They all stink and their
    all lairs.

I have all ready voted, I’m done. Put a fork
    in me.

  17. This whole thing should be called to the attention of HBO Last Weeks News Tonight Show. Let them figure it out. I’m sure it will be hilarious.

    Comment by Louis G Atsaves Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 2:50 pm

  18. Popped! The ads run by both parties have been so over the top, false and demeaning that I feel like screaming “liar, liar, pants on fire” at the TV when they come on.

Comment by Norseman Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 2:55 pm

  19. No, I’m good. But I’m confused as to why Rauner and the GOP are funding mailers touting Grimm’s publicly stated positions in the final days.

    Why would you do that?

Comment by Wordslinger Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 2:56 pm

  20. Just got a mailer that claims Grimm is pro-life. — it’s from Grimm, lol.

Obviously, he and Rauner have coordinated their campaigns to spread the word.

Comment by Wordslinger Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 3:05 pm

  21. It’s just week one. Stay in from the gross weather and have some hot chocolate. Or don’t if you’re on GOTV in which case :(

Complete agree. Looks like I picked the wrong election to stop taking amphetamines.

  23. Now my good friends, it behooves me to be solemn and declare,
I’m for goodness and for profit and for living clean and saying daily prayer.
And now, my good friends, you can sleep nights, I’ll continue to stand tall.
You can trust me, for I promise, I shall keep a watchful eye upon ya’ll…

Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t-
I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step,
cut a little swathe and lead the people on.

  24. “Have you lost your mind yet?”

Yes, I have officially popped my cork AND I think Rauner, the ILGOP, Quinn and the unions are doing what they have to do.

    Hello, I must be going!

  26. I said they are both doing what they have to do, if one flings mud, the other has to fling back, it’s fighting fire with fire. But I will be so glad when its over, you can’t watch the local news with out being bombarded with one political ad after another, this election started earlier with this and its ad nauseum now.

Comment by 3rd Generation Chicago Native Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 3:46 pm

  27. Already voted. Our politicians are conditioned to see who can get lower than whale crap. It’s the only thing some have going for them.

low ethics, dumb as an owl’s patooty, and for sale seem to be todays criteria for running for office,

Yes, I have officially popped my cork!
