Weak ending. He’s been painted as an out of touch, uncaring and ruthless rich guy. This ad doesn’t make a case for why him other that he’s not Quinn.

I agree with Norse, but I am deducting a few points because I do not get the sense from the tone in his voice that he actually wants the job.
Somehow, he took the classic Reagan “Morning in America” ad, turned it inside out, and made me so depressed I want to go back to bed.

Weak like all his positive commercials. His only positive point appears to be that he is not Pat Quinn. That’s a pretty weak argument as to why people should vote for him.

This ad goes the opposite direction. It is a “THEM” ad.

This is a terrible ad that portrays Illinois and its Government in a horrible way. How dare this out of touch plutocrat portray our state in such a negative fashion!
Our state has no unemployment, the lowest taxes, highest income, perfect schools and the most perfect corruption free government on the planet. Our medicare and pension systems cannot be matched by a single other state! Not a single penny of taxpayer money is wasted in this State. There is absolutely nothing to shake up. We are absolutely perfect and we need to reelect everyone who lead us into this state of perfection and Heaven. Immediately.

I don’t know that this one will change a single voter’s mind or help make up an undecided voter’s mind (if there are any undecideds left), but Rauner in this ad comes across as composed and calm and competent. It’s just the right feel for the final weekend of the campaign. Despite the cynics’ eye-rolling here, it’s clearly aimed at, and I think touches, the exposed nerve of so many people in both parties who just want Illinois to be better and to be put on a different track.

B+ - I kinda liked it. It was consistent with his campaign theme (Quinn is similar to Blagom etc.). While somewhat negative, not as brutal as the $78 baby killing Quinn ad I just saw.

I saw the commercial earlier on TV and thought it sounded a lot like the Sun-Times editorial, the “brink of permanent decline” thing.
I found the commercial to be negative and depressing, and worst of all, untrue. Does Illinois have a ways to go to improve even more? Of course. But Illinois has improved in important ways. Our unemployment rate is down, we paid down some bills, we got SSM and MMJ, we passed pension reform for new workers, expanded health insurance to cover more Illinoisans, etc.
I’ve noticed huge volumes of rush hour traffic in Chicago lately. That’s a sure sign of impending economic disaster, all those out of work people driving around.

It’s not too bad. I think there are considerable voters out there who are really tired of same-old, same-old players in Springfield but have been reluctant to stomach voting for Daddy Warbucks. This one might get him some of those.

voted for Edgar in ‘94, still like him. but to repeat OW, Bruce has spent the past year+ bashing career and corrupt politicians, now closing out campaign doing a tour with Gov Edgar? and at same time running another TV ad about the career/corrupt politicians? if that is not a walking contradiction then…
he spent summer trying to win over northern Dems, now last few days heading below I-80 to remind the hard Rs he didn’t really mean it? no one has cable or internet? still rely only on newspaper headlines?
also Crain’s ran an article today about Chicago manufacturing expanding at its fastest rate in over a year, but yeah things are so gloomy and hopeless like this ad.
we have a long way to go, neither guy in this election is perfect for the job, but Bruce has done nothing but contradict himself on almost every issue: taxes, education, budgets, guns, minimum wage, women’s rights, gay rights/gay marriage, and so on. it has been so perplexing to follow, and glad it’s almost over. and he may still win

There’s always been something off-center about a dude who makes $50 million to $60 million a year here telling you the place blows.
Doesnt come off as sincere or authentic, which has been his problem since jump street.

I watched this 2 more times and if you combine this with the “Diana Close” it’s as though it’s not a closing argument, it’s making an argument that should have been settled.
Being second to “ask”, after 1 close already, too redundant and too “me too”
Maybe that us the lede;
Rauner chasing Quinn’s message till the end.
Rauner out hustled in the Primary, got out worked in the General(?)

If he’s still trying to win over “some” of those with his last (?) ad, it really makes you wonder what exactly he’s been doing since the spring.

I thought Jim Edgar retired as an active politician in 1998 without retiring from all forms of employment. Is he a career politician even after ending his political career.
Pat Quinn has been in government longer than the retired Edgar.

Speaking of the President, I found “hope” to be a strange word choice for this ad given its prominence in the Obama campaign rhetoric. To the extent that’s purposeful (and I can’t imagine why it would be because they are so different) I think it’s a bad choice.
I also continue to think Rauner’s demonization of Cullerton and Madigan in ads is counterproductive for his “I will work in a bipartisan fashion” narrative. Bro, who do you think that involves if not those two guys?

Is that false and bleak portrayal the only way we can justify a vote for Rauner? What about Bruce’s accomplishments? Where are they?
Is that what Bruce Rauner says about Illinois to his investors and partners in GTCR? No hope? No possibilities?
Whoever wrote and believes that line should be slapped back into reality.
At least he faced the camera alone this time.
