Question of the day

Posted in:

* One of the items on Governor-elect Bruce Rauner’s agenda yesterday was a tour of the Executive Mansion with his wife Diana. I asked the transition team how it went. From Mike Schrimpf:

Bruce and Diana are excited and looking forward to moving to Springfield. Clearly there’s some work that needs to be done on the people’s house and Bruce has committed to raising private funds to make the necessary repairs.

Not much to go on there.

* The Question: What do you think their reaction really was?

Hey, it’s Friday. Let’s have some fun.

You’re probably joking with your comment, but that’s actually not a horrible idea to get some good publicity. Especially if Bruce does pay for a good chunk of the renovations himself. You cant’t tell me HGTV would turn down the opportunity to have one of their shows come in and renovate the White House of Illinois, as they’re sure to call it in their promos.

Word on the street in Springfield is that the City is delighted that State government is returning to the Capitol. It is even rumored that department heads will be required to live in the City. If so, bye bye three day work weeks with two travel days.

Aside: I drove by there yesterday evening and I was surprised to notice the lights on in the private residence. So, either they neglected to turn the lights off when done with the tour, or someone was staying there last night.

  81. #1: “Diana, dear, I’ve got it. I’ve got it! We’ll simply move into the Dana-Thomas House and call THAT the Governor’s Mansion!”

#2: “And you say it comes complete with the house next door? The Vachel Lindsay House? Oh, I remember, Lindsay was Illinois’ first governor!”

#3: “How ’bout this, Schrimpf? In lieu of per diems, we’ll turn this dump into a dormitory, and make all the members of the General Assembly stay here!”
