* A text from Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey, who is a former Illinois legislator…

Cleaning out my office and came across an old Rolodex (remember those?). In any event, thought you’d get a kick out of a few things I found. I clearly need to clean out my stuff more often.

* Some of what he found…

What do you have in your wallet?

  1. Saw those this morning when Fritchey posted them up… very cool! I’ve been doing campaign work for about 25 years now and have a campaign sign from every race I’ve ever walked a precinct in, made a call for or done any manner of GOTV work in. They’re not in my wallet (obviously!) and so don’t answer your question Rich, but seeing these made me think of the fact that I need to do something with them.

  2. I have a signed birthday greeting photo of/from George.

    A letter from Mel Reynolds.

Business card from James O’Grady, sheriff of cook county.

    Cal skinner for comptroller button.

Pokémon, now those cards are cool.

  6. Not in my wallet, but my “prize” possessions are a 1984 Gary Hart for President tee shirt and a Jerry Springer for Governor (OH) bumper sticker. Disclaimer: neither was mine originally.

I don’t know if I still have it, but I also bought a “Nixon’s the One” button at a flea market.

  7. I have my old one from Sachnoff & Weaver; I was there at the same time as the AG.

  8. Please put those cards in a time capsule so future historians will know exactly, with perfect pin point accuracy what happened to the good old USA.

  11. The contents of mine are pretty prosaic but I once knew a guy who kept a bay leaf in his wallet. Because, I guess you never know when you’re going to need a bay leaf.

  12. Given what I do, folks saving things is extremely important. The Age of Email is gonna make future histories a lot less interesting than when wonderful old letters & files turn up in attics, basements & garages. I think the 2 oldest Illinois business cards I have are Bill Berry & Ed Marciniak, circa 1983. Al Raby wasn’t using one….

  13. Is that comic sans on the Carol Mosely-Braun card?

Comment by WappySprayberry Monday, Nov 24, 14 @ 11:32 am

  14. My Rolodex has some “code names” that I’d use when calling sources who had secretaries and who didn’t want their secretaries to know that they were talking to me.

That was before the time when most people had mobile phones, and when the mobiles were too expensive to use very often.

  15. ===Is that comic sans===

If it’s not, it should be.

FYI–if you can bring up a utility bill/bank statement with your current address on your phone, that counts as proof of residence to get your DL replaced. You don’t have to have paper for that anymore.
