  1. Does it tell time?

I’m not really a tech/gadget person. Plus, doesn’t it seem like first generation gadgets have all of the bugs? Sometimes waiting until the 2.0 comes out is the prudent course. Unless you’re one of those people who has to have the latest thing.

    Comment by 47th Ward Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:37 pm

  2. No, I use Android. However as an AAPL stockholder I encourage you all to buy two.

Comment by Dirty Red Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:41 pm

  3. Mostly for the health and activity monitoring but also for allowing me to keep my iphone in my pocket. Also, I’ll be able to watch netflix on my phone while the watch keeps track of my run while on the treadmill. Battery time is 18 hours of “average use”; I hope this gets better.

Comment by Namaste Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:42 pm

  4. I think I will what for the apple pinky ring.

    Comment by William j Kelly Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:42 pm

  5. big, ugly, too small screen to see… any of its functions can be accomplished with and iPhone.

Comment by LIberty Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:42 pm

  6. I’m tracked enough by electronic devices. Don’t want to increase the surveillance.

Comment by Quiet Sage Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:43 pm

  7. Nope. I have an analogue watch. What else’s do you need?

Comment by Pius Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:43 pm

  8. I own a first generation Galaxy Gear. I have never had one problem with it. It’s so handy for tracking my physical activity, providing reminders for upcoming meetings, taking/making calls when my phone is in my pocket, and yes, even telling time. Hope all you Apple fans enjoy the new product; looks great!

Comment by GE Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:44 pm

  9. No. I quit wearing a watch when I started carrying a cell phone. Not interested in it at that price point, probably not at 1/2 of that either.

Comment by Tequila Mockingbird Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:44 pm

  10. The big question in my mind is-can Apple get an entire generation of people who don’t wear watches adopt a new behavior?

Few people under 30 wear a watch by habit. They have to change that before this thing will take off. But if anyone can do it, it’s Apple.

Comment by Adam Smith Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:45 pm

  11. Oop. Make that just “else.”

Comment by Pius Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:45 pm

  12. Toting an iPhone got me out of the habit of wearing a watch most days. Will have to be one amazing watch before I start wearing one again.

Comment by Chicago Bars Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:45 pm

  13. Hopefully they put out a watch that does not look like Suzy Spacesuit

Comment by Anonin' Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:45 pm

  14. Broke myself of a 40 year habit of wearing a regular watch and am comfortable getting my portable tech fix via my Iphone. Never been one for the latest gadget anyway- if some wonderful new use comes of these smart watches I might change my mind, but for now I’m good..

Comment by Roadiepig Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:45 pm

  15. My son has a Galaxy watch. nice colors, but I don’t need or want something which just replicates what I already have in a smart phone.

Comment by Mr. Big Trouble Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:47 pm

  16. No. After all, it would probably scuttle any chance I have of becoming Governor. I like my good old trusty analog watch. Which….seems to be an hour behind… ooops.

Comment by Skeptic Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:52 pm

  17. …and three days behind on the date.

Comment by Skeptic Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:52 pm

  18. haven’t worn a watch since the 70s. love my iPhone, though.

Comment by Amalia Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:53 pm

  19. No- BUT! My reason not to- “I don’t see the point”- was the same thing I said about the iPad. In a few years, once developers have had some time to work on it, I may see the functionality of it.

Comment by Arsenal Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:54 pm

  20. I don’t need a watch. If this becomes something actually usable, then yes - but based on what I’ve learned so far, it is just an expensive extension of what I already carry around in my pocket in the form of a iPhone.

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:54 pm

  21. Nope. Apple products are too inflexible and bossy.

    “I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

Comment by MrJM Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:56 pm

  22. No thanks. People can already get ahold of me in way too many ways. I don’t need to wear the albatross of technology around any part of my body.

Comment by black eye Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:56 pm

  23. Wait on this one. I don’t think of myself as gadget person although I have an iPhone6, Fitbit Flex, Kindle Fire. That’s enough for me now. Still looking for the directions to change time on my watch. LOL. Don’t feel the need to be the first on my block with the Apple Watch.

Comment by Nearly Normal Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:57 pm

  24. I have a $30 (NOT $18) Timex. It works well and if I break it I can just buy a new one.

Comment by anon. Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:57 pm

  25. No. I too stopped wearing a watch because of the smartphone. We don’t need duplicative devices for the price their asking. Might reconsider if it was standalone. That way I might use it when I want to go light.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:57 pm

  26. Wait. If I am required to create a means of making our staffer’s accessible to our databases and their office work - I can see myself being forced into working with it.

I have been forced into a whole lot of new data mechanisms because it is what I have been required to do to meet staff demands.

Comment by VanillaMan Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:58 pm

  27. Nope, don’t like Apple’s products, business strategies, or philosophy regarding customers. The company is Wal-Mart for the tech industry and I won’t be part of it.

Comment by Anon Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 12:58 pm

  28. I’m an Android user. But even if there were no compatibility issues they would need to do a better job of explaining the benefit of the second device that must be tethered to the smart phone.

Comment by relocated Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:00 pm

  29. The cellphone is already to small, seeing as how they haven’t perfected the technology to shorten the distance from my ear to my mouth, so people either can’t hear me, or I can’t hear them. Why would I want something with a smaller screen?

Comment by PublicServant Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:01 pm

  30. No, I won’t pay that kind of money for something that will become outdated in less than 2 years.

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:01 pm

  31. Stopped wearing a watch when I got my first iPhone.

    Comment by Louis G Atsaves Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:06 pm

  32. I have an iphone already.

    I have a great watch.

The IWatch or whatever they call it is an ugly hunk of plastic. I’m not strapping that thing to my wrist. Might as well wear my kid’s iron man watch.

    Comment by jerry 101 Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:06 pm

  33. I have a smartphone, and a analog watch. I don’t like mixing the two.

Comment by How Ironic Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:06 pm

  34. Nope. Droid person. As far as smart watch in general. Not enough benefit or battery for the cost.
Plus I believe the machines are already aware and are messing with us. I’ve been sassed too many time by my technology.

    BeepThis.

    Comment by Pink E. Kent Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:07 pm

  35. PublicServant - have you seen the IPhone 6 Plus?

It’s freaking huge. I have one, I love it.

I pick up my wife’s Iphone 5, and I can’t imagine how I used to use something that small. It seems so tiny!

    Comment by jerry 101 Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:08 pm

  36. Guess no one wants to be Dick Tracy.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:10 pm

  37. My iPhone gets it done for me.

Comment by JS Mill Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:19 pm

  38. I think it may be like the iPhone, and in a couple versions from now it will be great. Right now, I can do most of those things already on my iPhone. I have a Garmin fitness watch and heart monitor. So, not exactly sure what I need the watch for just yet.

Comment by Red Ranger Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:24 pm

  39. Not this iteration, and probably not the next couple either. But yes, I can see having one some day. I wear a watch *and* carry a smartphone.

    Comment by Ken_in_Aurora Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:26 pm

  40. I’ve got a Movado with one main dial and three small dials and I can’t figure out what any of the small ones do, so the odds of me buying a more complicated watch are slim.

Comment by Gooner Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:26 pm

  41. Nope. Old school. Like my analog watch on my wrist. Never check the time on my phone unless it’s already in my hand.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:30 pm

  42. No. I have a Pebble and recently ordered a Garmin Vivoactive, so I’m in the target market, but I’m not a fan of the Apple ecosystem or price premium.

Comment by Pelonski Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:32 pm

  43. Can’t read the damn thing I have. Last thing I need is to have a smaller screen. Plus, while it’s light out, I don’t care what time it is.

I went from a pocket watch to a smart phone in a different pocket. I’m good.

    Comment by A guy Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:33 pm

  44. Apple should start working on products we actually need.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:34 pm

  45. I still carry a pocket watch.

    Comment by John A Logan Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:34 pm

  46. No, the last thing I need is anything bothering me when outside checking my sundial.

Comment by Give Me A Break Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:35 pm

  47. I have enough gadgets. One more isn’t on the agenda.

Comment by Jorge Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:37 pm

  48. Nope. One, I refuse to buy into all the Apple hype, and, two, I haven’t worn a watch in ages and think it would feel weird to have something on my wrist again.

There was a funny article posted on the Onion’s Facebook page today titled “Apple Fans Demand Other Products They Can Feel Directly Against Skin At All Times.” An excerpt:

“The watch is a good start, but I need as many devices as possible to be directly in contact with my flesh, like lightweight tablets I can strap to my legs or some kind of Apple chestplate I can wear under my shirt,” said Robert Klinman, echoing the sentiments of millions of Americans who said that any portion of their skin not in contact with an Apple product felt raw and exposed.”

  50. Why should I change from my Blackberry now?

Comment by One to the Dome Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 1:55 pm

  51. Still have a flip phone with the time on it- flip phones replaced pocket watches which replaced wrist watches (timex was the last brand)because I kept tearing them up- might consider some sort of i-phone in the future…

Comment by downstate commissioner Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:00 pm

  52. Love gadgets but I own a watch that I will have for the rest of my life. The Apple watch can’t trump it.

Comment by Stones Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:00 pm

  53. ===Still have a flip phone===

    Now that’s an antique. Wow.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:01 pm

  54. No. For me, I need to be able to have the iWatch (or whatever they are going to call it) be able to (a) Project a laser for making linear measurements to a selected endpoint and bluetooth transfer that digital measurement to a selected location of my choice, and (b) Project a laser at a part/component and have the iWatch create an exterior scan and then bluetooth the digital file back to an assigned location of my choice.

Since neither of those capabilities are happening anytime soon, I’m not interested. Just have to keep doing it the old fashioned way.

This hardware looks like all it’s going to do is tell time…..

Comment by Judgment Day Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:09 pm

  55. I love how the Watch works, and if anyone here wants to get the Parking Meter one, I will not turn it down. However, I will wait until a less expensive later version comes out before I invest my money.

    Comment by Rahm's Parking Meter Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:19 pm

  56. Nope. I have a watch. It tells me the time. That’s all I need from a watch.

Besides, you’ll apparently need to carry your iPhone with you for it to work, so why duplicate?

    Comment by Joan P. Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:19 pm

  57. Android only.

Comment by AndroidBoy Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:21 pm

  58. Not an Apple person, nor would I wear a watch.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 2:57 pm

  59. Nope. Don’t need it anymore. But, I did have a Timex Data Link watch back in the day & it was great to remind of appointments, etc.

    Comment by sal-says Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:08 pm

  60. ===Timex Data Link watch back in the day===

I had one of those too. Back then I was all about the latest gadgets.

Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:17 pm

  61. Nope. Screen is too small. I have a fancy watch for adult dress up. And a lighted dial timex for chick movies w mrs Langhorne

Comment by Langhorne Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:19 pm

  62. I have a Timex
    Bruce Rauner knockoff….
It tells time but you can’t count on it….

Comment by One day at a time Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:28 pm

  63. Another useless device that will have to be charged as much as your IPhone.

Comment by Me Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:37 pm

  64. ===Timex Data Link watch back in the day===

Had one until I got tired of holding my arm up to the computer screen to have the download fail once again.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:40 pm

  65. No. I know what time it is.

Comment by Wordslinger Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:56 pm

  66. and give up my CompuCron LCD? I think not…..!

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 3:58 pm

  67. My Smartphone nags me enough with email, calls and calender notifications. Voted no. If I were to wear acwatch agoan I would get my old GI Timex out. Analog rocks!

Comment by FormerParatrooper Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 4:07 pm

  68. Android user.

Comment by anonlurker Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 4:07 pm

  69. No - Why? If something is not necessary, I don’t need it. If a cell phone was not needed to operate it, I would consider it.

Comment by Mama Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 4:23 pm

  70. I just read that the watch needs to be recharged every day (just like an iPhone). That would get old in a hurry.

Comment by Stones Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 7:23 pm

  71. I am going to be a little contrarian to popular opinion here today.

Yes, I am definitely going to buy one.

I believe the whole wearable computer market is going to explode and this watch is just the next progression of this major trend. It also looks pretty cool. I can’t wait!

Comment by Boris Monday, Mar 9, 15 @ 7:58 pm

  72. It is certainly not necessary nor wanted. Just another high tech trinket for those more concerned with status instead of praticality.
