* Miller: ‘Cut and run’ remark undercuts Roskam, despite being misquoted
* “The national spotlight on the campaign for retiring U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde’s 6th District congressional seat heated up Thursday as Democrats picked Tammy Duckworth to respond to President Bush’s weekly radio address and as former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole spoke out to clarify a Duckworth mailer.”
* SJ-R: The Illinois State Police are looking at moving their operations out of the crumbling State Armory in Springfield even as an $800,000 repair project is undertaken on the building.
* Tribune: “Cook County Board President Bobbie Steele said Thursday the county’s budget deficit going into 2007 exceeds $400 million, and she asked all department heads and elected officials to cut their spending by 10 percent.”
* Trib Editorial: [Steele] didn’t mention privatizing county services. Or layoffs. Or closing redundant institutions. She didn’t mention the need for a strong inspector general to slash the surtax that corruption extracts from taxpayers. She didn’t mention the need to consolidate county fiefdoms by the dozens. She didn’t mention the need to overhaul an antiquated system of salary increases that allows many employees’ compensation to grow by leaps and bounds.

* AP: Republican candidate for governor Judy Baar Topinka said Thursday she’s confident lawmakers would approve the Chicago casino that’s a key component of her proposed budget plan. Topinka, who first proposed her plan last month, said she has talked to lawmakers who were interested in the idea before and “will be interested again.”
* Post-Dispatch: In the governor’s race, neither incumbent Rod Blagojevich nor challenger Judy Baar Topinka has an official profile on MySpace.com. Blagojevich has a bare-bones profile on Facebook.com; Topinka, the state treasurer, has nothing. While Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, has profiles on Facebook and MySpace, Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Belleville, has very little on Facebook and nothing on MySpace.
* Tribune: The first name of Cook County Circuit Judge Victoria A. Stewart has been misspelled on 1.5 million ballots. Reprinting them would cost $450,000.

* We had this days ago here on the blog. The AP finally catches up: year after state agencies were caught throwing sensitive documents into the trash, two Illinois agencies admit they recently mishandled personal information about their employees. The Corrections Department said its information breach involved “virtually all” of its 13,500 employees but would provide no details.

The Duckworth camp has no shame. They will use anyone’s image w/o permission and now they put workds in Roskam’s mouth! They have been foaming at the mouth like rabid dogs for Roskam to stupidly question her patriotism. He hasn’t, so they will use that material anyway. Gen Rahmmel is smart, the media bit hook, line and sinker.

The state police who work in the Armory work in the worst building and the worst environment I have ever seen used for state employees. If this administration is going to do something about that, good for them.

Talk about the fox in the henhouse. Steele’s committee chairs for the team that is supposed to fix the Cook County budget “crisis” are Rickey Hendon and Jan Schakowsky, neither of whom ever saw a tax they didn’t like.
Poor Tony Peraica is helping them out. He rails against corruption and mismanagement and says I’ll fix this if you vote me in. The Toddler says he’ll fix things too, but much more vaguely.
Peraica loses. The CCB says, well, I guess a tax increase is ok with the voters because they didn’t elect Tony.
We Cook County residents are so, well, pluckable.

Would someone with any talent help Peraica’s campaign out. The votes are there for the taking, but did you see his first TV spot. What a waste of money. If Tony does not get more than the usual GOP vote in the county, he will have no one to blame, but himself.

State agencies mishandling personal information certainly isn’t a new phenomena. I encountered at least two instances (many years ago) of State documents blowing down the street that contained what appeared to be sensitive information, and I reported both to the associated office managers. Idiots threw this stuff in dumpsters (intact) rather than shred it. I bet that you can still find such information if you do some dumpster diving behind State office buildings.

Wumpus, Roskam clearly implied he thought Duckworth was a cutandrunner.
Give it up, man. Everyone can see right through the comment and your out-of-right-field defense doesn’t spin it any better (especially not after the NRCC mailed out lie after lie about Duckworth in recent weeks).

Rich, Dave “Plays the Chicken for GOPUSA” Diersen thinks your opinion column is stinky. But don’t try to make a point about it because Diersen’s now grown so tired of constantly deleting my legitimate questions and points of fact that he has removed the comment function on his posts. Wuss.
He writes at Illinois Review: “- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Rich Miller admits that Roskam “was almost universally misquoted,” but nevertheless, Miller admits that he has “little pity” for Roskam. Miller merely states that Roskam is Republican state senator, but Miller promotes Duckworth as “a genuine war hero.” If Duckworth was almost universally misquoted, how much pity would Miller have for her?”
