Question of the day

Posted in:

* I stopped by House Speaker Michael Madigan spokesman Steve Brown’s office yesterday and he asked if I would promote his annual SIU sports party, which has been renamed to honor the late Gene Callahan…

I wasn’t sure if I could, but said I’d think about it.

* We changed the subject to Aaron Schock’s political demise. Brown related a funny story about how he’d approached Sen. Darin LaHood in the Rotunda and told the congressional hopeful that he also lived in Schock’s district, has voted Republican in the last two primaries (there are no Dems to vote for in his local primaries) so he was thinking about running - as a Republican.

What did LaHood do? I asked.

He got a funny look on his face.

* And then a friend of Brownie’s, former House staffer and current lobster extraordinaire Liz Brown, sent me this today…

They’re not really cousins, but it’s a funny inside joke.

* The Question: Are you down for Brown? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please.

  4. Washington, Ill., needs Steve Brown.

The red walls must stay as a cautionary tale. Besides, how many coats of primer would they need?

  11. Voted “for” him; at this time, just a gag-I think.
I am actually in Schock’s district. Don’t know much about some of the candidates mentioned. Thought LaHood would be a good choice, until I read some of the comments yesterday-was never a big fan of Schock’s-a little too far to the right for me, and from what I read, LaHood is even worse.
If Brown is voting Repub for the same reason that I do (no Democrats), then he would almost have to run as a Republican, wouldn’t he? Just because he works for Madigan doesn’t make him a bad person, and he certainly would be “in the know” more than Schock ever was…

  12. “Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what Brown can do for you.”

For the ad of Steve canvassing door-to-door in a UPS uniform, it is worth it.

  35. I know this is a joke post but as a central Illinois dem it’s just a bit dispiriting that a top aide to the head of the Illinois democratic party can’t even get his boss to put forth any dem candidates in his district.

  37. ===can’t even get his boss to put forth any dem candidates in his district===

Any Democrat who would be willing to run in that district is not worth the effort to convince.

  43. Best idea since Kinky Friedman ran for Texas Governor! Friedman had a classic slogan: “Kinky for Governor. Why the Hell Not?”

    Could work for Steve.

Comment by Ray del Camino Thursday, Mar 19, 15 @ 1:38 pm

  44. I’m not endorsing Mr. Brown, I’m not going to do that. Today. That’s not my intent to endorse Steve Brown for the 18th District, although Steve Brown woukd bring an energy and vibrance that is lacking, but today I won’t be endorsing, probably the most qualified candidate for Congress in a generation, but I’m not endorsing, I want to make that as clear a possible.

I am, however, suspending an Exporatory Committee focusing on an 18th District candidacy as I feel there might be someone who can bring the gray confusion swirling around a red office. I’m not green with envy, no, it’s that the district needs a fighter that isn’t yellow. I’m not blue about walking away, this decision was clear, nothing too comfusing pretty black and white; the committee must be suspended. That is what I’m doing today.

  52. PX90 with cigars and a Bud Select? Got my vote, and I refuse to touch Budweiser!

    Comment by Lynn S. Friday, Mar 20, 15 @ 1:20 am

  53. Who does Steve Brown think he is trying to “worm in” on Darrin La Hood’s birthright? Darrin may not be the “man” that is father is, but he’s certainly more deserving than Steve Brown. It’s a good thing Speaker Madigan’s mouthpiece can’t be anointed when everyone knows that this seat belongs to LA Hood! Back off Brown before you end up as part of the Ray La Hood Bridge!
