[Mitsubishi Motors North America general manager of corporate communications Dan Irvin] said Mitsubishi wouldn’t be located in McLean County if it weren’t for the transportation infrastructure in place.

“The three interstate highways and availability of rail and the ability when we need it for air travel all continue to be extremely important to us,” Irvin said. “The highways of Illinois are actually our warehouse, because the parts that are going to be used this afternoon and tomorrow are on the roads of Illinois this morning.”

The economic importance of maintaining our transportation and state facilities is why I always cringed when I saw capital monies being spent on other things like lights at local sports facilities. Alas, our capital money was usually used to bolster the electability of our governor and solons.

Those sweeps to the Road fund don’t seem so rosy now. Hey Bruce you like Math so heres a consequence of you Math- Remember 250,000k of IL money + FEDERAL MATCHING MONEY OF 750,000K = 1 billion dollars. Geeze Bruce I thought businesses were in mass exodus. Here’s a news flash, business all want to be here because of our energy, water and transportation network. These are why business can make more money in IL, and THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY More in taxes for this level of service too.

Mitsubishi also won’t be located here if they give up on the US market, which they’ve been on the verge of doing since 2008.

We can put in the infrastructure, but if they don’t put vehicles on the road that sell, we’re both losers.

Considering how much production has dropped off since its peak in the early 2000s, the future prospects for Mitsu’s continuing operations in Bloomington in general aren’t so bright.

It’s called Just in Time delivery; the interstates revolutionized business, freeing up capital that had been tied up in on-site inventory for fear of being caught short.

Depending on the program, federal match is 80% Feds and 20% State. So The $250 million of Illinois money would leverage $1 billion for a total of 1.25 billion in construction funding.

On the interstate highway system the federal match is a 90% Fed and 10% State.
