“Good solid advice”

Posted in:

* Speaker Madigan held a press conference yesterday and talked about a meeting he’d had with the governor earlier in the day

“I had a frank discussion with the governor,” Madigan said. “And I gave him what I consider to be good solid advice.”

He later added with a hint of a smile: “I felt good when I walked out of that meeting.”

Any guesses about what that advice was?

  51. Governor, i encourage you to personally engage legislative leadership, to seek accommodation on the problems before us. you have passed up many opportunities to do so, but it is not too late.

The budget requires 36 votes and 71 votes. You have members you can persuade, as do i. Republicans have voted no on tough votes for years. That is about to change. Please focus on the budget, and avoid unnecessary suffering.

As a first step, it would help if you would instruct your agency directors to respond in a positive way to our inquiries. That is part of our responsibility for legislative oversight. Tweets, name calling, and blatant disrespect of members and the process doesnt help. I have worked well with republican governors.

It is up to you. In the meantime, we will continue our work. Now, please throw away my apple core.
