Question of the Day

* Which, if any, State Fair Grandstand show are you most interested in?

Click here to review the lineup.

All things Fair…

* Illinois Stair Fair officials outline weather safety plan

* Ride inspectors review safety at Illinois State Fair

* Illinois State Fair vendors say budget or no budget, show must go on: Uncertain budgets are a part of business, say vendors who travel the multi-state circuit of state and county fairs. In Illinois, budget deadlocks have become as common as salt-water taffy, funnel cakes and corn dogs on a stick. “We’re not too worried about it. We’re here to sell some candy and keep on going,” said Tony King, whose family operates State Fair Taffy.

  1. I saw “Fall Out Boy” on Opening Day at Wrigley, so I’ll go The Fray with Andy Grammer.

  2. Bocephus!

  3. With no budget we will not go - they might as well have a tumbleweed on stage for all I care. Fix the budget before playing like there isn’t anything wrong.

  4. Now that I know Allen D won’t be there, these shows sound like a lot of fun!

  5. Fall Out Boy

  6. Sammy and Anthony!

He doesn’t need the money. With more than $120 million in the bank and a number of outstanding business ventures, he does it because he can. And to stick it to the Van Halen Boys and Diamond Dave. It’s a tour war!

Roger Waters and David Gilmour used to do the same thing to one another. Van Halen songs being performed by alumni at the same time, from opposite ends of the nation or even across town.

    Now that’s political war.

  7. Rauner’s parade walk..

Comment by Mouthy Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 8:47 am

  8. I actually think several of the acts lined up in Du Quoin are more appealing.

Comment by Anon Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 9:01 am

  9. Heh… I am with Mouthy. That could be an interesting parade if teachers and state workers show up.

    Comment by Benniefly2 Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 9:24 am

  10. Harness racing is always my favorite grandstand event. Don’t expect to make a concert this year.

Comment by Reformed Optimist Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 9:39 am

  11. Because of budget issues I will not have a chance to go to the state fair.

As to the fair itself, I think Illinois has more important things to spend its limited funds on.

Comment by Hit or Miss Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 9:59 am

  12. Justin Moore & Josh Thompson are awesome. Don’t know of Jon Pardi. Trouble is, in Chg Sunday.

Comment by Soccertease Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 10:06 am

Comment by Vote Quimby! Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 11:07 am

  17. Timing of the state fair is a problem for families outside of greater Springifeld who have kids in fall high school sports or going back to college.

  18. STYX - The Grand Illusion, 1 more time. If you please!!!!

  22. The ARCA race. I saw the Outlaws race on the Jacksonville 3/8 dirt track, so it will be interesting to see how a 1 mile dirt goes.

  27. Sammy and Hank. Hopefully bank is having a good night. The Circle looks really interesting.

My 17 year old daughter was really impressed with Styx at the Mississippi Valley Fair last week and was impressed with their performance and she is a tough critic.

Comment by Freeze up Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 7:15 pm

  28. All state employees should boycott the fair! Chirp chirp ….. Now that’s something. I think people would see how hurt businesses would be without state workers. No I’m not going but Sammy would be my pick!

Comment by sad Wednesday, Aug 12, 15 @ 8:18 pm

  29. Hmmmm..noticed that everybody in the lineup is a “paleface”. From my numerous times in past traveling to Springfield for work I became aware that Springfield was a very racist /antiblack part of the state . However in these racially sensitive times I’m even more surprised there is not even one african American act. Sorry I know this entry is supposed to be humorous …so I’ll go with Sammy H.would have picked Styx. .but they “aint” got Dennis Deyoung.
