Khouri fundraising for Foster seat

By Barton Lorimor Email | @bartonlorimor

* Tonia Khouri, a Republican member of the DuPage County Board, appears to be gearing up to challenge Bill Foster.

Riopell…

“We’ll be making an announcement soon,” spokesman Andrew Edmier said.

Khouri is serving a second term on the county board and is owner of Green T Services.

Federal Election Commission records show she raised more than $100,000 toward a congressional campaign in the second quarter of the year. That follows a $200,000 loan she made to the campaign in the spring and another $15,250 loan in June.

  1. Well - she’s obviously in. You don’t loan yourself nearly a quarter of a mil and then say, “Nah, just kidding.” And it’s not like Bill Foster is unbeatable. This race could be interesting if the NRCC puts a staffer and some scratch behind. And really - Illinois is still a battleground state for the U.S. Senate and House, so there’s no reason for the NRCC leadership to be gun shy about this race and miss a golden opportunity.

  2. Looks like she has a website for Congress, so I would say she is in.

Can’t see how she will be successful in a Presidential year.

  3. When she has run for stuff before you see a ton of her yard signs for what it is worth…

  4. Just from a strictly legal standpoint the paperwork you file with the FEC is stating that you’ve officially created a campaign committee. Even though she may not have “announced” she’s done all the paper work required.

Same goes for the “forming an exploratory committee” — it’s the exact same as forming a candidate committee. It’s just calling a duck a goose.

  5. Team Sleep- ===”…this race could be interesting if NRCC puts a staffer and some scratch behind” it…

I wish it were true, but with a pretty darn good candidate (Former state Rep. Darlene Senger) in 2014, a great GOP year, she didn’t get much help from the NRCC and Foster won by a fairly comfortable margin.

Is Foster unbeatable? No, but in a presidential year he is more than safe.

  7. Foster is never safe.

  8. Senger was good, but got no Washington support. That’ll be the key to any chance this time.

Everyone is assuming Hillary. Without her a lot changes.

  9. Right now?

It’s a Fools Errand to go after Foster, especially, as others have said, in a Presidential cycle.

I have the over/under of Congressional Seats Being lost by an incumbent at 1 seat(s), you can buy the “hook” and really lock in the “under”, but even at 1, the “under” is getting heavier play.

  10. Loan yourself over $200K. That’s what we now call a “fundraising” launch. Sad.

  11. I know the conventional wisdom of the “Presidential Cycle”, but I’d really caution everyone to pay close attention to what’s unfolding on the D side of that race. Hillary is being pummeled daily. Her own shop is doing a below average job dealing with it. Bernie is picking up a lot of steam all over the country. Biden is bidin’ his time to pick a good time to jump in. Things are anything but unified there. There are significant fractures. This isn’t the juggernaut of Bill, or Barack or Barack again, steamrolling into the election untouched by any hurdles.

To keep assuming that there will be high voter interest and turnout on the Dem side after this kind of a primary makes me wonder why that is necessarily assumed. We’re looking at everything through the lens of a deep blue state. I’m not sure we’re not several shades lighter than we’ve been in the past. Time will tell.

  12. - A Guy -

    Foster isn’t “gettable”.

It’s the turnout, not that Hillary or any other significance.

It’s s Fool’s Errand, but if she thinks her $200K gets her to be in play, all it really does is for the spending to keep Foster spending. That’s it.

  13. Now I have that Green T Services jingle stuck in my head…

  14. There was no juggernaut for Barack in 2007. Bill Clinton was almost a non-factor in 1991. Mis-remembered history. Nothing can be determined by any polls at this time.

  15. Can we have allegedly “safe D” Bill Foster (#305 on the Cook Political list) ask “safe D” former Congressman Brad Schneider (who looks like he should have been even safer at #310 on the Cook Political list) how safe, safe might be?

  16. Received a mailer to attend a chicken dinner fundraiser in New Lenox Sunday. We use Green T so I think this went to all their customers in her District.

  17. Wasn’t aware of her business background owning a major landscaping company. If she’s more favorable to Immigration reform than others in the party might be an interesting test case for the soften your tone theory on immigration for the GOP considering Aurora population trends.

  18. Tonia Khouri has been very active and engaged throughout the district. She understands the district and can take on Foster, even in a Presidential. She’s the strongest of any of the Republican contenders.
