* If true, this needs to be a much bigger story. From the Rockford Register-Star editorial board…
To make matters worse, the state is threatening human services agencies, telling them they must continue to operate without funding or else be barred from ever getting a contract should there ever be a budget. In what universe does that kind of blackmail make sense? Only in Illinois.

We had an employment agency renting an office in our office. They helped our customers find jobs. They’ve been gone since August.

if true it raises the question, who will they hire then…. not like there is a plethora of social service agencies. unless thenplan is to eliminate social services all together. goes hand in hand with crushing the unions i suppose

Ghost, if true, it raises a lot more questions than that.
The RR-S needs to start with a little J-101: who said what to whom, when and where.
If they can’t do that, they need to retract.
Do they not understand what they’ve accused the Rauner administration of?

Not sure why my comment was deleted? Check out 794 F.3d 729 (7th Cir. 2015). You may also want to look at 651 F.3d 722 (7th Cir. 2011). I only ask because I’ve had multiple comments deleted that are not rabid, gratuitous insults, rumors, profane or “sock puppetry” and just do not understand what type of comments/conversations are not welcome. Thanks.

There’s no way this is true. It doesn’t make any sense at all. I suspect the RR-S is simply repeating something they heard — something with no basis in reality.
If they had an actual source, they’d run an article about it — but because it’s buried, I suspect they have nothing — and (what’s worse) probably had no idea what they were suggesting.
What is it with these editorial boards? It’s like you have to be ten years old, clueless, and hyper to be on a newspaper board.

At least since a governor tried to sell a Senate seat using a telephone that he knew/should have known was tapped by agents of the Justice Department, there has been little relationship between “truth” and “making sense” in Illinois politics. (Additional examples are available upon request.)

The state has made struggling social services agencies remain open until a receiver is found to take over operations. There is a fear in the developmental disability and mental health provider world that the state intends to let the system fall apart and bring in national for-profit companies to take over the operations of small, local non-profit groups.

Interesting, though. This idea of “show up and work, or you’ll never work again” is clearly the same language Rauner will use against strikers if a strike happens.
The idea will be: strike, and you’ll never work for the state again.

Don’t know which is more scary; that a newspaper would print this as an unsubstantiated charge or that so many people think the charge may be true. I will hold judgment till supporting facts surface. Right now it is just noise.

Or simply get rid of them forever. I tend to believe his goal is simply to get rid of them. For most of the services, I doubt they are very lucrative for his buddies to make money off of.

Nothing surprises me anymore, however - we have received a lot of calls from social service agencies who are in trouble because of budget crisis - NONE have mentioned they were threatened.

Mama is correct. In fact, some contracts went out without a start date and providers were told that there was no guarantee payments would be retroactive to July 1. I can only speak about contracts that went out to DCFS providers.

Anyone who thinks this is untrue is delusional.
Not only were providers told they would work for free until a budget was passed, or else.
They were also told that they were gonna take a 10% rate cut while serving the same number of people. Or else.
No one on Team Rauner thinks they are doing anything wrong. They are quite brazen about it, because this is how it’s done in the private sector. When you are Wal-Mart, you dictate terms to the vendor.
