So, she is not exactly sitting around in an office drinking scotch and smoking cigars. It’s not the deepest political thought, but I’ve noticed that criticism of Avery Bourne has an undertone that feels more personal and petty than the criticisms launched at others. If we are going to call pols out on their Facebook posts, I’ve got a long list of ones from the “cigar and scotch” crew, like endless selfies and stirring quotations from Robert Frost. The road less traveled? Oh wow, so deep. Let’s judge Avery Bourne from the totality of her Facebook posts, which on the whole appear to be what they should be.

I like her comment, and I am surprised by some of the negative comments and glad to see some of the light-hearted ones, especially after the past year. Her perspective seems to be better than that of a young smug newbie that acts like they know everything about everything. And I’d prefer it to the cantankerous attitude as well.
BTW: I’d watch out for Rand’s camp, some of his dad’s Paulestinians can’t make up their minds between Rand and Bernie, which to me is scary on multiple levels.

Avery, the term “camps” when applied to politics - is literal. Camps are temporary gatherings of like minded people. Gold camps are filled with young men digging for wealth. Nudist camps are filled with people who want to enjoy life sans clothing. Scout camps are filled with young people discovering outdoor skills. RV camps are filled with seniors filling their bucket list before ascending to their final camp in the sky.
Political camps are filled with young people digging for wealth, fame and fortune. They are willing to get naked and sell their souls to the highest bidders. Their learn about how to dig for oppositional dirt on opponents. They fill their bucket list when they convince the AARP crowd to support their candidates.
When the gold is panned out, when buttocks are sunburned, when little Jimmy’s parents return to pick him up Sunday night, when the RV couldn’t clear the drive through window at Cracker Barrel, and when repeated electoral losses visit the Happy Political Campers - camps breaks up.
So, they are camps.

This is a good question.
Rich is doing her a favor. He basically gave her the lesson (on a pretty bland FB post) that you are now part of a blood sport. Just like in the Miranda warning anything you say (post) can and will be used against you in the court of public opinion. It will be taken out of context and placed into 30 second radio and tv ads. So proceed with caution and be careful what you post and say because someone is always watching or listening.
Instead of posting silly stuff on twitter and facebook, text your best friend the silly comment and have a chuckle with her. Then if it winds up in a 30 second radio ad, you know you need to find a new best friend. Good luck and as Sean Connery would say “here endith the lesson”.

Wow, I’m noticing a strong odor of sexism and ageism. In sum, “There, there, pretty little girl, some day you can grow up to be a REAL legislator.” I’m pretty sure her facebook post is tongue in cheek, and while I don’t think she should be immune from criticism, I think her only error here is that she didn’t use her best judgment in whether to post at all (she should not have posted). As a public figure, she should know better than to post something tongue in cheek that can be interpreted in SO many other ways. I’m wondering if this was posted to facebook by any middle-aged white guy legislator, then would everyone would be congratulating him on his Seinfeldesque insightful humor? And FYI, I’m not a Bourne supporter, nor Republican, nor female, nor young. I just don’t like the tone of many of the posts here.

Rep. Bourne is an obviously ambitious person who chose the rough-and-tumble world of Illinois politics.
Given that ambition and her choice of profession, I doubt that she’s a delicate, fragile little flower. I imagine she’s plenty tough enough to handle a little ribbing.
I’d suggest the “ageism” and “sexism”‘ comes from those who seem to think that she cannot because she is a young woman.
Anyone who’s ever gotten sideways with a teenage daughter will tell you, young women are pretty tough, indeed.

I am (sort of) young and female, and this feels neither sexist nor ageist to me. I think we’d definitely jump all over a young male legislator who wrote something like this, and I hope we’d show ever less mercy to an older man for having no business being on social media until he can use better judgment…

Finally got online to see what I missed since 7 am. Obviously, a lot on all topics, but this one got my interest, and don’t know where to begin.

Today’s snark was really an outpouring of what escalates when those defenders aren’t in tune with the snarkiness and they feel the need to intervene.
Jason himself was way too serious sbkut who he thought he is and the persona he have to all of us for consumption.
“Sometimes being in on the joke leaves the humor where it belongs.” Jason let his own caricature become the running joke.
You’re a good sport, Rep. Bourne. Much respect, keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll be fine for a long time.
