Rauner rescinds DON score change

Posted in:

* This was yet another hugely controversial move that the governor undid today

Expect updates.

…Adding… They’re giving credit to Rep. Dunkin…

* From SEIU Healthcare Illinois President Keith Kelleher…

“As with child care, home healthcare for vulnerable people in Illinois will remain under the sword of Bruce Rauner until and unless his power to do harm is offset. Therefore, we urge that legislators vote for House Bill 2482 when they convene Tuesday and protect seniors and people with disabilities from ever being used as political pawns. This is not a time for celebration: We should never have gotten to this point in the first place.”

  4. But, but, but … “Hang in there”

Guess someone told Gov. Rauner really means, “You own this mess, otherwise what are you really hanging in there… for?”

Boy, waking up to Governors own has to sting.

Always been, always will be Governor, comes with the Big Chair.

    Welcome to your new reality.

  5. Good news for seniors and people with disabilities but I thought we already knew that he had backed off on this. There was the “and/or” that was part of his AV for HB2482 but I didn’t know this was still on the table? Does the Gov have the ability to change the DON score on his own?

Or maybe Ken Griffin. The governor finally decided to listen to somebody. But who? Not respected former governors. Not legislators. Not goo goos. Not his own wife. Not his own superstars. Who? Big money, that’s who.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 3:43 pm

  10. Happy that the action was taken but the Governor’s actions today show that he proceeded in haste rather than giving these issues the consideration that they deserved. A rookie mistake.

  17. “Because… Ken Dunkin”

I guess instead of having to eat all these U-Turns, “Ken Dunkin” will be the “voice of reason”, the, um, “conscious” that our new Governor needs.

That way, Rauner isn’t caving, Rauner is workin’, tryin’ and bein’ thoughtful.

Man, this is one bad soap opera.

Will the public spankin’ occur, or will the last minute repentance work?

Comment by cdog Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:13 pm

  27. There is more than meets the eye here. If the override of the amendatory veto of HB 2482 is dropped, the power to change the DON score remains with the governor. And if the governor already knew that given the fact that federal CMS denied the state’s petition to increase the DON score several times over the last several years, is this a loss for him at all? I’d say our governor’s chess skills are improving.

Comment by CCP Hostage Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:15 pm

  28. Did that letter to Dunkin come along with the coveted Wedgie Award?

Comment by Earnest Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:15 pm

  29. I don’t want to overinterpret this. Could be simply the usual approach of business executives. If it’s not working, try something else. I disagree with those who see Rauner as the epitome of evil. Unless you think all CEO’s are the epitome of evil. Some do, I suppose. They’ll be voting for Bernie.

Of course, we taxpayers haven’t seen the bill yet. How high the tax increase in exchange for these changes in the state executive path. Who gets the blame? Not necessarily anybody. Indeed, not necessarily Rauner, three years out,if the state’s finances have improved by then. That must irritate the Democrats.

Comment by Cassandra Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:15 pm

  30. I meant to say that the DON score changes proposed in the past were denied.

    That explains a lot.

Obviously, some House GOP members have had enough of this Randism weirdness.

  35. This gives Dunkin a counter to the vitriol he drew in missing the child care vote. I think Dunkin and the Gov. would like to see him in a leadership position and this is the beginning of the campaign.

    Ha!

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:43 pm

  41. This is a “sham.” There’s more to HB2482 than just the DON score. The amendment also protects people as the state eliminates the DON assessment and introduces a new, universal assessment tool. I hope the override veto bill still gets called. People will need it.

Comment by Dome Gnome Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:44 pm

  42. Ok, to recap;

The man worth 9-figures, the man speaking for the Ken Griffins who need a voice, the man who told the GOP Caucuses, Leaders Durkin and Radogno, the man who spent over $60 million, over $20 million of it of his own cash, the man… the man who has held Illinois hostage for over 9 months hostage…

    … has indeed been listening to a Ken… but it’s Ken… Dunkin?

The multi-winner of the Century Club Award, who has the most contempt for his own Democratic colleagues, at least once…

… Is the “Scooby-Doo” ending “Mr. McGillacuddy” brains of the outfit… and… Goldberg’s letters… “ck” and her emails… Lance’s taunt tweets to Rep. Lang… is Ken… just the wrong Ken, Ken Dunkin?

    Hilarious.

Oh, and this washing Ken Dunkin clean and getting a leadership post in the House? Even this fiction can’t lead to that ending, lol

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:47 pm

  43. Whatever…

Based on the finance reports showing Dunkin paid his own freight for his extended stay in NYC, this is just a simple payback for the “misunderstanding” that caused KD to miss the SB 1229/SB 570 votes in September.

Comment by ChinaTown Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 4:56 pm

  44. I didn’t say it would work.

Comment by burbanite Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 5:11 pm

  45. Just so there’s no surprises…

Ken Dunkin will probably not be voting to override(?)

Why give Dunkin these kudos then have Dunkin vote to override(?)

That will be interesting to see Dunkin’s switch tomorrow.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 5:12 pm

  46. @OW : “That will be interesting to see Dunkin’s switch tomorrow.”

It’ll probably be dark. I’m sure he has something to do in NY, way more important than what his constituents desire anyways.

Comment by How Ironic Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 5:37 pm

  47. Undoing some early bonehead moves.

Linking Dunkin to this decision damns him with faint praise.

Hopeful moves today overall by Team Rauner.

Comment by walker Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 6:48 pm

  48. This governor is in trouble. The way I look at it ,he’s 0-2 today. Somebody, or something is gonna hit the fan in the next few days. This cowboy ain’t used to losing.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 7:24 pm

  50. What inquiring minds want to know, what or who forced Rauner to this 180 on these issues? Or convinced him this gets him one-up on Madigan and his majority?

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 7:24 pm

  51. - Wensicia -

If Rauner holds serve and no Raunerite decides to vote for people… and Century Club president Ken Dunkin isn’t “green” because he was the brain trust for Rauner’s offer…

Can the Democrats get the override?

    Could be one “green” short.

Counting noses tomorrow will be interesting, including the crying GOP members being “yellow”.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 7:29 pm

  52. — I think Dunkin and the governor would like to see him in a leadership position…–

    That’s a gag, right?

Comment by Wordslinger Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 8:11 pm

  53. Dunkin is done as a politician, Rauner is attempting to give this doughnut maker some help in the poles.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 8:12 pm

  54. So the Governor’s office couldn’t take the time to find Mr. Dunkin’s address before they released their letter for public consumption?

Comment by Commonsense in Illinois Monday, Nov 9, 15 @ 9:37 pm

  55. No one sees this as part of a deal with the unemployment insurance regs? Raising the DON score clearly raised the threat to SEIU HCII’s existence, so they got AFL-CIO to cut a deal on UI. Those kind of coincidences don’t happen in politics.
