“As with child care, home healthcare for vulnerable people in Illinois will remain under the sword of Bruce Rauner until and unless his power to do harm is offset. Therefore, we urge that legislators vote for House Bill 2482 when they convene Tuesday and protect seniors and people with disabilities from ever being used as political pawns. This is not a time for celebration: We should never have gotten to this point in the first place.”

Good news for seniors and people with disabilities but I thought we already knew that he had backed off on this. There was the “and/or” that was part of his AV for HB2482 but I didn’t know this was still on the table? Does the Gov have the ability to change the DON score on his own?

Happy that the action was taken but the Governor’s actions today show that he proceeded in haste rather than giving these issues the consideration that they deserved. A rookie mistake.

I guess instead of having to eat all these U-Turns, “Ken Dunkin” will be the “voice of reason”, the, um, “conscious” that our new Governor needs.
That way, Rauner isn’t caving, Rauner is workin’, tryin’ and bein’ thoughtful.

There is more than meets the eye here. If the override of the amendatory veto of HB 2482 is dropped, the power to change the DON score remains with the governor. And if the governor already knew that given the fact that federal CMS denied the state’s petition to increase the DON score several times over the last several years, is this a loss for him at all? I’d say our governor’s chess skills are improving.

I don’t want to overinterpret this. Could be simply the usual approach of business executives. If it’s not working, try something else. I disagree with those who see Rauner as the epitome of evil. Unless you think all CEO’s are the epitome of evil. Some do, I suppose. They’ll be voting for Bernie.
Of course, we taxpayers haven’t seen the bill yet. How high the tax increase in exchange for these changes in the state executive path. Who gets the blame? Not necessarily anybody. Indeed, not necessarily Rauner, three years out,if the state’s finances have improved by then. That must irritate the Democrats.

This is a “sham.” There’s more to HB2482 than just the DON score. The amendment also protects people as the state eliminates the DON assessment and introduces a new, universal assessment tool. I hope the override veto bill still gets called. People will need it.

Based on the finance reports showing Dunkin paid his own freight for his extended stay in NYC, this is just a simple payback for the “misunderstanding” that caused KD to miss the SB 1229/SB 570 votes in September.

No one sees this as part of a deal with the unemployment insurance regs? Raising the DON score clearly raised the threat to SEIU HCII’s existence, so they got AFL-CIO to cut a deal on UI. Those kind of coincidences don’t happen in politics.
