[Rep. Charlie Meier (R-Okawville)] said he does not expect there will be a budget passed by the end of the current calendar year.
“But I’m more optimistic, and expect that the budget will be approved in February or March,” he said.
Just for context here, the governor’s next budget address has been scheduled for February 17th.

That could be real interesting if the Gov and GA are working on two different year’s budgets at once! I have a feeling that programs like higher ed and the remainder of social programs not ordered by the courts, may really come up short in that scenario.

Morning Rich,
Gov Bruce Rauner has announced in lieu of the “Open Meeting” today, that he’s going to be taking a mulligan on the budget this year. He’ll be concentrating on ways to not get mired in the sand traps, tall grass, and other obstacles that really gummed up his progress this year.

tax increase not passed this year and made retroactive means a huger hole and less money to fill it if it passes next year

Hasn’t a lot of spending (under the court orders and such) gone on under the prior FY levels (based upon the prior FY year’s higher revenue projections)?
If the current FY isn’t in place until February or March, the shortfalls will be difficult (maybe not even possible) to fully adjust down to the new FY budget in the 3 to 4 months that remain in the FY.

My Representative in the GA has never been accused of being subtle or nuanced in his reported public remarks. Yet, he has been a beneficiary of some of the money in the Governors “slush fund”.
Maybe he has an inside track and knows what he is talking about!

With Murray Center in his backyard…I wonder if he knows how that facility is paying its bills, what is it doing about food and other commodities in this budget impasse?

Waffle fries - Charlie was very active in efforts to keep the facility open, yet there have been some very current allegations, active investigations, and possible pending charges into some recent deaths of residents at Murray.
I have not heard anything about lack of food, supplies etc. needed by the facility, but then again, the local paper hardly does any investigative reporting!

There was ONE death investigated at Murray. The other death was from natural causes; someone just released from the hospital who had been chronically ill and was heading back to the hospital. Coroner confirmed this as did IDPH. Also, no problem with food or supplies at Murray Center.

the issue here is pure politics, and the impact on the next election. So I fear there may be no budget resolution until after the November 2016 elections, with one side or the other backing down after the voters have spoken.
Not that I want this, and governing should be a consideration equal to or surpassing politics —but hey, this is Illinois.
