  2. Really sad to hear of Glenn Frey’s passing. The Eagles have always been a favorite of mine.

  3. NPR played part of “It’s Your World Now” in tribute to Glenn this morning

  4. Very productive. Got the new treadmill up so there’s no excuse left for not getting on it. They don’t call me honeybear for nuthin! Fitbear just doesn’t have the ring to it. But we got a lot accomplished and the teen girls had a busy weekend. Eldest teen went to her first concert. G Easy who ever that is. I have now resigned myself to middle age. I no longer know who my daughters are talking about.

  5. Last week David now Glenn. The playlist of my youth is losing members way too fast. RIP Glenn.

  6. Weekend was a bit odd;

    Bitter cold. Sunny, but clouds hanging over.

    A lack of enthusiasm of excitement was found everywhere I went. Its as though a feeling of gloom and pessimism has seeped into a public persona. No one seemed defeated, but there is such a depressing feel, collectively, that the mood mirrored the temperature, or visa versa.

    Odd weekend.

  7. And thanks for skipping the Eagles, a band that was never nearly as good as folks are now claiming in wake of Frey’s death.

  8. Would have been great to hear the Bowie version and not the cover, but still a great tune.

    Comment by Ziggy Stardust Tuesday, Jan 19, 16 @ 9:25 am

  9. The Nirvana version has been at the top of my playlist for months. Great tribute to a great artist.

  10. Cold and expensive … had to get furnace repaired.

  11. I never really got Nirvana, but they totally nailed this song.

  12. I can relate, Honeybear. Bought tickets this weekend for teenage son to a concert by something called Florence & the Machine and Monsters & Men, way back in Row WWWZZ. Reminisced that one of my first concerts was INXS at a small Kansas ballroom in 1983 where I was two feet from the band. Had tickets to see U2 at the same ballroom in 1981 when they cancelled, having realized halfway through their US tour that they were a much bigger deal.

    Well I see Jeffrey Lebowski chimed in. Yeah, well that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

    Eagles were a big part of the soundtrack of the 70’s, and Glenn Frey’s solo work was a big part of the soundtrack of the 80’s (Miami Vice, Beverly Hills Cop). He was a great artist, and many, including me, love his music. RIP.

  15. Honeybear - that was pretty funny. Thanks for the morning laughs.

    I had to take my older pup to the vet. The poor guy might have arthritis.

    On a much better note, Tool is playing in St. Louis on Friday.

    Whenever I hear the Eagles, I immediately think of the Ramones: “I Want to be Sedated.”

  17. My weekend was great, thanks for asking. The mister and I took a break from jobs and caretaking to have a little getaway. We even ate a cupcake. A cupcake, I’m telling you!

  18. Great weekend. Went down to visit my son, and went to the Monroe County Bicentennial celebration. What a classy county. Only thing missing was the RAUN Man. Apparently a last minute no show.

  19. Week-end was great. I got to help myself and someone else. Hank Williams Jr.said it best,” I love … everything the Eagles do.” RIP.

  20. Yeah, I hate the Eagles, and it’s not just, like, my opinion, man. Business Insider said it best:

    http://www.businessinsider.com/11-reasons-why-the-eagles-are-overrated-2013-8

    From the Business Insider list: The Eagles will be remembered as the Perry Como of their generation. They are the Budweiser of rock and roll: successful, smooth but ultimately watered down and unsatisfying.

    When a group makes virtually every publication’s “Most Overrated Band” list, you know there’s an issue. From the LA Weekly list: “The Eagles are the quintessential band for a decade whose favorite barbituate was the Quaalude.”

    Brutal, perhaps, but appropriate. And no disrespect intended for the dearly departed Mr. Frey. He achieved both fame and fortune, which seem to have been his goals.

  21. I was too young to appreciate Bowie during his creative peak in the 70s, so Nirvana’s cover was a revelation to me.

    My parents both enjoyed the Eagles, though, and while I won’t claim that they were a great band, I’m not one to immediately change the station if one of their songs comes on the radio.

    I did once sing “Don Henley Must Die” by Mojo Nixon at karaoke - of course, no one else at the place knew the song!

    Agreed. You never know what might be on the next station–better to put up with the bird/eagle in the hand than risk the U2 in the bush.

  24. ==Business Insider list==
    ==LA Weekly list==

    “Who are two columnists and one anonymous internet message boards opinions I don’t give a rip about, for $200 Alex.”

    Congrats, you and a few others hate the Eagles and Glenn Frey. I’m sure you felt great and somehow made yourself deal superior in your brilliant and unchallenged music taste by making your opinion known. Myself and millions of others, on the other hand, like them. I’m sure that must burn your little hipster heart, but I don’t care, I’m still going to play em loud.

    Lighten up while you still can
    Don’t even try to understand
    Just find a place to make your stand
    And take it easy
