I always look forward to serious, thoughtful policy positions from leaders who excel at developing and implementing solutions to complex problems. I also look forward to whatever it is that these three are going to do at 10:30 today.

No surprises here on the OP page of the WSJ. The reporter needs some “learin’” on how to properly capitalize an acronym . Although, it may have been intentional…
As to the “taxpayers who elected him” meme, he is Governor of the ENTIRE state, not just who he feels is “friend” worthy (Remember the recent comment from him of if you are against me, you’re not my friend???). This isn’t grade school, and you don’t own the playground even if you did put a big “donation” towards it.

Quite literally ‘Been There Before’
Another magical plan to short pensions that will save the state Billions.
A “balanced” budget will be proposed that spends the billions saved by the magic plan.
The magic plan will be deflated by the real courts and Illinois will be even deeper in the hole.
And the beat goes on . . .

If Governor Rauner does NOT have 60 and 30, and can’t… honestly and truthfully… say that President Cullerton and/or Speaker Madigan is/are on board AND Rauner won’t look foolish saying as such…
Why… is this even taking place?
At the very minimum, both Quinn and Rod knew their proposals weren’t going anywhere and would play off their own ineptitude.
Rauner thinks everyone IS on board. Delusional, if I wavtedcto give the bebefit of a single doubt, but I’ve listened for 18-19 months what this man has said, and found out later what is real to be… slightly… off… to a real… reality.
So, Governor, show me 60, show me 30, show me constitutionality, and don’t waste my time with drivel that can be easily refuted.

First question to ask the governor… Governor Rauner, you have obviously put a lot of work into this probably unconstitutional overhaul proposal, why haven’t you dedicated this much time to completing a budget?

Adding to what 47 pointed out yesterday, just more comical distractions.
We can’t accomplish minimal, basic governance, but we’re going to fill our plates with all sorts of big ideas.
If you’ll recall, the governor last week said his biggest accomplishment to date was signing the K-12 approp. — the one he told GOP legislators to vote against.
Yeah, funding K-12 — that’s a real heavy lift.

1. This is what happens when there is NO session for almost two months in the House and only one session day in almost two months in the Senate. PR battles rule (or rue?!) the day.
2. Say what you will about yesterday’s proposal and the impending presser today but, like the Governor with him beating AFSCME to the punch, Leaders Radogno and Durkin are attacking first. Having done campaign work long enough to what works and what doesn’t, sometimes half the battle (or more) is just coming out swinging first instead of waiting for the first punch.
3. Now that the GOP caucuses will have cash to throw behind mailers and TV buys, my guess is that some of this is a foreshadowing at what the HRO and SRCC will be rolling out later this summer.

Sandack was on Chicago Tonight as the Guv’s guy, Demmer was there for the Rank and File.
Sandack’s role isn’t to be just the mouthpiece to Hoot the latest talking point, Sandack’s role is to ensure that whatever is rolled out gets the full Raunerite message, leaving nothing to chance, and to fill the gaping holes that need that Raunerite seasoning.
I’d probably be more surprised if Sandack wasn’t there(?)

TS- That says it all right there. Maybe your folks should get out of campaign mode and govern for a change. They MIGHT actually get something done for a change. They got nuthin pumpkin!
DCEO–Got nothing, no jobs added just jobs lost.
DHS –Got nothing, agencies starving, loss of service
IDOT –Got nothing, no projects
IDOR –Got nothing, bleeding revenue
Name a state agency and let me know what they’ve done? What improvement have they made.
From where I sit I see a lot of NOTHING!

Why is that? Because the Turnaround Agenda hasn’t been accepted yet.
Nothing has happened in State Government because a theoretical revenue scheme that ONLY at best raises 551 million dollars has not been adopted yet.

But I hope it haunts you that a lot of other people have a lot of NOTHING tonight.

I agree with you but I have one positive event. The closing of the State of Illinois JRTC building coming up. My wife who works for the State, which is why I care so much, says that is the worst building around. It is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There is no lighting and it is very load. All of the people that she knows can’t wait for it to be closed.

If anyone doesn’t realize the end game here is to persuade voters to amend the state constitution to change the pension language, well, I’ve got a bridge to sell ya. To mount an effective campaign, though, the Governor and his allies must first demonstrate they have tried everything short of either a) amending the constitution or b) taxing the living hell out of everything that moves in the state to meet the pension obligations and somehow pay for all those things people demand from a state government. The campaign is coming. It’s just a matter of when the Profts and Rauners of the state feel the moment is ripe.

And the union and everyone else should be working on amendments for both a Millionaires surcharge AND a graduated income tax, and specify the surcharge only goes away after the increased rates from a graduated tax meet or exceed the Millionaires tax. They want to take away our constitutional protections, let’s try to hit them with double taxation.
