Thanks!

* Thanks to everyone who showed up for my “celebrity bartending” gig at JP Kelly’s last night. The place was jammed with people, so I had to do some honest hard work for a change, but I did have fun.

I was pleasantly surprised when legendary commenter VanillaMan showed up. I met him almost a decade ago when he attended a speech I gave in Springfield. I hadn’t seen him since, but he hasn’t changed a bit. We had a great talk last night.

The spouse of our commenter “Honeybear” also attended the festivities and we had a very nice chat.

Oswego Willy couldn’t make it, but he “sent” someone in his stead.

All in all, the evening was a success. I’m not sure how much we raised, but it wasn’t trivial. Again, many thanks to everyone who turned out.

  1. Just a quick note here. The bar fight was started by Emily. I didn’t know that the guy I punched was an off duty cop. He looked like Steve, and you know how much we get along. Daniel will be fine, he is young enough to recover with little scarring and beside I bet it will be an improvement as it will make him look smart and tough.

    Sam really started the whole thing when he shoved between me and Emily spilling the bong. He kept at it until that off duty policeman started getting all mouthy.

    Finally, don’t worry about Oscar biting me there. I’m getting an implant anyway so my urologist can just repair the damage then.

    Had a great time!

  2. The next time I see my emissary I better watch out, the emissary was sent without Cannoli, a major error by me, one that will not be repeated! My apologies to you both.

    Congratulations on a successful evening, all.

  5. VM, were you tempted to do a little karaoke with the songs that have entertained us so well over the years?

    Would have loved to be there, but it was a bad migraine day, so old AA was down for the count. :(

    Hey OW, thanks for the Cannoli! What’a nice surprise. Coming down for lunch today?

  9. Rich did very well behind the bar, It wasn’t like watching Tom Cruise in the movie “Cocktail “, but it wasn’t like watching Dean Martin in “Rio Bravo” either.

    Migraines are nature’s way of telling you that you’re too sober and need Single Malt.

  13. ===what was your specialty drink===

    I made a Captain and Coke and a Jack and Coke and then couldn’t remember which was which. So, I used that finger on the straw thing to taste one. But I had no clue, so I tasted the other one. Still no clue. I had a real bartender try, and still no clue. Another bartender looked at both glasses, said “that’s the Jack” and I took the glasses to the table. On the way there, I forgot which was which so they had to figure it out.

    I’m no bartender.
