  3. Continue to divest myself from Illinois property & investment assets.

The growth we got the last 10 years will not be repeated in the next 10. But it will in other places.

  4. To find a new job outside state kakistocracy.

  7. To not eat anything unless the Chicago City Council says its good for me — and ethical.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 7:56 am

  8. In line with YDD’s line of thinking, to never put anything into my body that Ed Burke has decided is not good for me. So, Alderman, when shall you begin my yummy meals on wheels deliveries? If you haven’t decided we can’t eat chocolate anymore, either, I’d like my meals to include a scrumptuous chocky brownie, please!

Comment by Snidely Whiplash Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 8:10 am

  10. To not say “I told you so” to everyone who voted for Blago.

  11. After being warned by the Chicago City Council I would be banned from the city, last year I went from VanillaMan Regular to VanillaMan Lite. This year I will become VanillaMan Non-Fat.

Now they want to get rid of me because I didn’t vote for Stroger. It is like living with Puritan Socialists, I tell ya!

Comment by VanillaMan Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 8:46 am

  12. To retire this year…

Comment by merit comp spouse Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 10:03 am

  15. Spouse,
It could be because they are mostly bitter holdover republican patronage hires who hate the governor and spend their day trying to sabotage the administration.
Anyway, my resolution is to not respond to the childish insults bloggers hurl at our esteemed governor and to try to concentrate on the issues of the day….and to only drink after dark.

Comment by Bill Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 10:53 am

  16. Make better use of my library card and to take advantage of all the gift cards for bookstores I have lying around the house.

Comment by Snark Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 10:58 am

  17. Put on 50 pounds and enjoy every bite. Later, I will become concerned about the health impact (after the State Fair of course)and ask Ed Burke for a good diet recommendation.

Comment by zatoichi Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 11:08 am

  18. To continue to hurl childish insults at our goverNOT and see how long Bill keeps his resolution to not respond.

Comment by Little Egypt Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 11:49 am

  19. To try not to laugh when someone refers to our governor as “esteemed.”

Comment by Angie Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 12:28 pm

    Happy New Year, all.

    AA

Comment by Arthur Andersen Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 1:41 pm

  22. Little Egypt -

Bill already blew his resolution in that post, kinda like a Blago PR Program. “I may have said it but don’t expect it.”

My resolution - not to get too gassed when Blago is indicted and the promise to say only one time “I told you so” to everyone who voted for him.

Comment by Papa Legba Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 2:23 pm

  23. To clap as Blago is carried off in cuffs.

Comment by The Conservative Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 2:30 pm

  24. My resolution is a total comp-out. My resolution is… to get married… and I will accomplish that resolution later this month. Yes, I am so good!

    Comment by Lovie's Leather Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 2:38 pm

  25. To stop making resolutions that I can’t keep, unlike some of the rest of you (anon #1, Bill, AA, Angie, Papa Legba, YYD, and so called “Austin Mayor” just to name a few). Little Egypt, I think I believe you. :)

My resolution is to enjoy this year more than the last, and repeat each year until they put me in the ground.

    Happy New Year.

Comment by Jaded Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 2:51 pm

  26. Hey Bill, for purposes of clarification, does a saloon with no windows (e.g. Two Brothers) at 11:30 am meet your definition of “dark?”

    AA

Comment by Arthur Andersen Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 3:31 pm

  27. Listen to Rich when he says to sit on something.

Comment by ArchPundit Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 3:40 pm

  28. LOL

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 3:43 pm

  29. AA,
That works for me! Its is always “after dark” at 2 Bros.

Comment by Bill Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 4:07 pm

  30. Already coming up with a legal work-around for your resolution, eh Bill? lol

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 4:42 pm

  31. To figure out what makes me happy in life and then do it.

Comment by Tessa Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 4:56 pm

  32. That will most likely mean, I won’t be a state employee anymore, won’t live in Illinois anymore, and (hopefully) will be living happily in a mountainous state far away from here……

Comment by Tessa Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 4:57 pm

  33. To be less apologetic.
To be more assertive in my words.
And to be more thankful for life’s little pleasures.

Comment by Disenchanted One Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 5:23 pm

  34. Do you all realize how many state workers are on psychotropics? Why, it ain’t because we love our jobs. To Tessa - I wish you well on your search for happiness.

Comment by Beaten and broken... Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 5:51 pm

  35. In order to be truly happy, you have to be less wise about the world and life in general. Wise people are jaded and cynical precisely because they just plain know too much stuff, while on the other hand, ignorance is bliss.

If you want to be 100% happy, try zoning out when there’s news about the corrupt state of our state government, about the bigwigs who sit on all the committees and trade associations for industries that the “little people” have to work in, and where they have NO shot at reform because the big boss is connected to the slimeballs on all the big committees, and don’t watch the news.

Or listen to music. Seems to work for me. lol

Comment by Angie (to Tessa) Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 6:30 pm

  36. I resolved to remain engaged with democracy even when it is tempting to become apathic, cynical and negative. As Reinhold Neibuhr from Lincoln once said, “Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible; Man’s capacity for injustice makes democracy necessary.”

My back-up resolution is to be adopted by a big name politician.

Comment by Objective Dem Tuesday, Jan 2, 07 @ 6:47 pm

  37. Reinhold Neibuhr also wrote the Serenity Prayer and boy do we need it now!

Comment by To objectified Dem Wednesday, Jan 3, 07 @ 6:43 am

  38. Blago, esteemed.. oh that’s good. With any luck he’ll be George’s esteemed colleague/cellmate.
