  1. –ILSenateGOP@ILSenateGOP
Munger: To get out of current backlog of bills, taxes would need to be raised by 8%.–

    Sigh.

If you’re so obviously challenged by the language and arithmetic that you post something so ludicrous for all the world to see, perhaps you shouldn’t, especially if you’re speaking for lawmakers who are supposed to know what the heck they’re doing and talking about.

If raising taxes BY 8% did the trick, there really wouldn’t be much of a beef, would there?

I suspect Munger said raising the personal income tax rate TO 8%.

BY and TO mean very different things, in this context.

Raising the personal income tax rate TO 8% would increase the current rate BY more than 100%.

Little words, big differences. Learn, think, edit or don’t hit “send.”

  3. ===Please do not encourage===

It’s not like he needs any.

Also, I’m not running that poll because he refuses to disclose the name of the pollster. And, it’s apparently completely automated, which likely means no mobile phone calls. If there were, they weren’t disclosed in the article.

No way am I running that.

Comment by Randy Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 1:44 pm

  7. Looks like the GOP is doing a better job of filling in candidate vacancies than the Dems. Vote accordingly for a lot of folks will have to focus on Munger, Kirk and GOP Cong.

  8. ==Senator Manar: “Why wait until July 1st to open the doors? Why wait another 30 days?”==

Maybe its because there is no budget for FY16 to fund it.

Because it has to go through JCAR for approval.

Will the pull out of Illinois insurance exchange affect state retirees who have UnitedHealthcare Advantage ins.?

  11. Income tax has to be raised no matter whose budget is passed. Rauner and company knows this!

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 5:07 pm

  12. From the United Health press release … The change does not affect the company’s group insurance business or Medicare plans.

Comment by Outsider Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 5:08 pm

  13. “Guv: We need to give teachers, school children, university, health care, social service and prison systems what they need.”

If you believe that, pass Madigan’s budget plus a tax bill to cover pay for it.

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 5:09 pm

  14. Seven hours left in the regular session, and Rauner and the GOP leadership have nothing better to do than dump nukes on Madigan. O.o

    Unbelievable.

Comment by Nick Name Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 5:09 pm

  15. Mike Madigan and John Cullerton need to tell us how we will pay for their underfunded $7 billion dollar budget. They both created this mess long befor Rauner became Gov. Gov. Rauner has said he will work with them to come to an agreement. The problem is Mike Madigan and John Cullerton do not care about the middle class. Mike and John will not propose any tax solutions since that have none. Rauner has said if he gets TA he willing to consider a service tax and an increase in the state income tax rate.

Comment by Dandy Edward Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 5:30 pm

  16. Amazing. Rauner. Radogno. Durkin. They’ve been slinging garbage and now they’re in a panic because kids might not go back to school in August. smh

  17. –Mike and John will not propose any tax solutions since that have none. Rauner has said if he gets TA he willing to consider a service tax and an increase in the state income tax rate.–

For crying out loud, can you make a minimal effort to be coherent, if you have something to say?

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 6:30 pm

  18. Not one Republican who wrote the letter to Rauner urging a resumption of AFSCME contract negotiations and compromise stood up for their constituents. Not one.

Take note, union members, and vote accordingly. The days of union support by Republicans are over. If this doesn’t say it, nothing will.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 8:07 pm

  19. The Letter Sham resulted in lots of “Red” on HB580.

    Vote Accordingly, all of Labor

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 8:15 pm

  20. If Rauner wants a balanced budget let’s see his plan that would have to cut 7.5 billion out of the Dems budget proposal.

Comment by Joe Blow Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 8:39 pm

  21. No appropriation for higher ed, again?

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 9:23 pm

  22. “LSenateGOP@ILSenateGOP
Leader Radogno on SB 2048: This bill is $7 billion out of balance”

So let Rauner file a balanced budget bill. Two years, no bill from Rauner. What a waste.

Comment by Nick Name Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 9:48 pm

  23. Higher Ed and Social Services just got burnt!

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 10:01 pm

  24. I forgot to include the state vendors as being burnt too. This is the best they can do? Why not amend the HB?

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 10:03 pm

  25. Joe Blow and Nick Name Rauner has proposed a budget for the last two years. Yes they were out of balance, but it is Mike and John job to fo negotiate with the governor to fill in the revenue difference.

Comment by Dandy Edward Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 10:07 pm

  26. “As lawmakers debate the budget in Springfield, Maryville’s 132-year home for youth will close.”

    Where will these children go?

Comment by Mama Tuesday, May 31, 16 @ 10:23 pm

  27. Dandy, no one can negotiate with a person “Rauner” who refuses to negotiate. End of story.

So the Governor can giveth to allow the GA to taketh away? Sweet deal! Not. The Gov needs to do his job propose a balanced budget with the revenue everyone agrees needs to happen. Remember tax hike mike?

Comment by burbanite Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 8:40 am

  30. The Governor has proposed a budget. Yes it does not balance, but as he said he is willing to include tax increases such as income and service taxes for a balanced budget. Also he has stated you can not raise revenue without including reforms that will bend the cost structure of state government and improve the state attractiveness for business. Taxes with out reforms accomplishes nothing. As far as tax hikes the Democrats and Republicans need to meet and work this out. Rauner can not pass any tax hikes without Mike and John approval.
