  2. … So, raise taxes to fully fund universities, prisons, and make timely payments to social service providers?

Comment by Anon Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:44 pm

  3. Come ON!

All the uniting Rauner does is unite Labor, Social Service providers, advocates, and clients, and Democrats.

    Governor!

You need 71 and 36 now.

For cripes sake, Stop! Stop canpaigning!

Geez, Louise, someone tackle this guy and tell him he does t have to do THIS!

What’s next, a tweet by Lance of Rauner by a town sign, “Madeupville, population, 943″

We’re one state. Get that through your…

We’re one state, you’re governor of one state.

    Act like it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:44 pm

  4. Huh? Why not to try to be the governor of the whole state? Not just wherever you happen to be at a particular time.

  5. Pander much?

Comment by Left Leaner Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:47 pm

  6. Come on, folks, we know what’s going on. The Great Campaigner is trying to gain some traction and House seats in Southern Illinois. That’s who he’s talking to and who he cares about right now, not the whole state. If he cared about the whole state, he’d be in Springfield working with his staff to try and get a deal done.

Comment by Archiesmom Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:50 pm

  7. And the campaign continues…..
    What a great leader????

Comment by DuPage Bard Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:51 pm

  8. Serious questions: Are these the actions of a governor who wants to make a budget deal?

Can we all stop pretending now?

  9. Go back North please.

Comment by Honeybear Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:57 pm

  10. Seriously? You are supposed to be an advocate for the State of Illinois … our Governor. A good governor does not diss his own state. He represents all the people. OMG this guy is too much!!!

Comment by BBG Watch Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 12:57 pm

  11. The worst Illinois Governor ever. Think how low he has had to sink to get there.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 1:00 pm

  13. =We need to vote for downstate, not Chicago. Tell lawmakers to stand up for southern Illinois, not Madigan’s machine.=

Plays like Mozart to the ears of the mouth breathing ding dongs.

Instead of unity, we find enemies within to divide the state.

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Lincoln was talking about the rift caused by the slavery issue. But the concept of a state being pitted against itself rings true today.

Just to be clear, we are not talking about slavery today and that is not the comparison to be drawn.

Our state is horribly divided. Our chief executive is only furthering the divide, a divide which provides him personal financial benefits.

  14. ===The Great Campaigner is trying to gain some traction and House seats in Southern Illinois. That’s who he’s talking to and who he cares about right now,… ===

That’s 100% not helping right now.

The day after, June 1st, with no budget, no stopgap, no… everything…

… Rauner wants to be a Partisan shill?

Rauner needs, minimum 40 Democrats in both chambers…

    That’s 4-0, not four…

… to get any compromise now.

This is absurd. Thus runs counter to cobbling.

    Maybe - @MisterJayEm - is right?

It’s well beyond picking off a seat or 3 when Rauner needs 40 Democrats, some maybe from “She-Cah-Go”

The tour of a governor isn’t an accident.

  15. I tried to get into Vienna event and was not allowed as stated it was an invite only :(
That a way to be open to public!
Why does he not sign SB2038 the FY16 Human Service Stop Gap bill on his desk!

  16. Still campaigning and engaging in the same dishonest rhetoric we heard throughout the campaign and the past 18 months of his administration.

We deserve better than this pandering and disingenuous reasoning. Millions of people who live in this state are looking for you to stop playing your silly mind games and actually get some things done for all of us.

Comment by illini Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 1:02 pm

  17. Tell the people what they want to hear, and listen to the cheers. Fun for Bruce to play working class hero. More fun than governing

Comment by Molly Maguire Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 1:03 pm

  18. Given that the State is broke and doesn’t have a budget, who is paying the gas bill for all of the campaigning 1.4% has been doing?

It seems like 1.4% isn’t in Springfield long enough for his seat to get warm.

  32. Have never understood the GOP’s love of bashing Chicago (other than the fact some downstate areas love it), but why in the world do they go out of their way to take shots at the largest pool of voters in Illinois. Can’t they count?

  34. =Wow, no support from the gallery for Rauner’s comments?=

My local legislator’s are all republicans. I like them too, very nice people.

They have voted as directed by the governor on EVERY single vote. Never one single deviation. Not one.

Several of those votes hurt locally. They opposed K 12 funding last year.

Help me understand exactly what I should be supporting?

  39. For a guy that clouted his kid into a Chicago public school he sure seems determined to bankrupt CPS.

I used to think that all those people who wanted Cook County to be its own state were crazy. I’m still not for the bill but I think I’m at the point where I’d welcome subject matter hearings on it.

  43. Sad day indeed to see a governor speak like that. Alton and Chicago are both wonderful places united in a single State (and previously by a now defunct Illinois Terminal Railroad).

I guess Dartmouth wasn’t that good back in the 70’s.

  47. It is interesting to contemplate “a house divided,” and “the great uniter.”

A man named Paul once wrote about those whose nature included promoting acts of dissension, factions, and selfish ambition. (Besides those three, there are twelve more that make up a rather gnarly list of things from which we should strive to control our better selves.) (Gal5:19-26)

We should have hope that Rauner can become that great uniter and learn to balance the interests of all of us, whether we live downstate or Chicago, democrat or republican, …

  51. You can tell he’s never lived downstate because he has no idea how much the economic health of Chicago drives our economies downstate.

Comment by Educ Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:17 pm

  52. How can this governor unite our state when he rejects the people represented by political leaders and unions he despises?

Comment by Wensicia Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:20 pm

  53. Rauner was later asked about his Chicago connection and said, “We made lots and lots of money in Chicago, because it’s an international business center with great schools, infrastructure, capital investment. Retirement investments have been great also.

“But it’s a terrible place and has turned Illinois into a Banana Republic. It’s killing jobs and growth. I know. I talked to lots and lots of business owners who said they don’t want to locate in this state.”

Comment by Grandson of Man Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:27 pm

  54. Thanks, gov. Guess that means you want us downstaters to push our leglisators, including your friend Dwight Kay, to pressure you to be responsible and collaborate on funding SIUE, SIUC, and a whole host of community colleges down here, not to mention the K-12 districts our kids attend. Also, I’ll take your advice and lobby those same Rauner-sympathizing legislators to restore childcare funding for low-income working parents in cities such as East St. Louis, Cahokia, etc., so that they don’t have to quit their jobs due to lack of childcare. Oh…that isn’t really what you had in mind, governor?

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:45 pm

  55. Gov. Rauner in Alton: We need to vote for downstate, not Chicago.–

Really? Why? The economic engine is Chicago not Alton. Chicago is 90% of the GDP (one of the largest in the world) generated by this state. And the businessman doesn’t understand this? Can he go any lower?

Comment by Denisquared Wednesday, Jun 1, 16 @ 3:54 pm

  56. “I suspect most folks south I 72 think Rauner is from Chicago.”

It is a reasonable assumption given his kid went to CPS and he owns two condos in the city.
