Kirk buying Chicago TV

Posted in:

* The Democrats believe that Sen. Mark Kirk’s new TV spot is designed to distance himself from Donald Trump. Kirk’s campaign won’t confirm. We’ll see tomorrow. From an internal Democratic e-mail…

Competitive update -Kirk buy in Chicago

June 23-30, 2016

Chicago
Broadcast $230,860 500 GRPs
Cable $28,000

Awful early for this sort of thing, particularly since he doesn’t exactly have a boatload of cash. But this is not your usual year.

  1. Unless Artl televises the Duckworth “trial”, what exactly will TV do right now, given Kirk’s lack of cash to buttress a message?

  2. Kirk’s only salvation is Duckworth. Heaven save us all.

  3. How does a politician distance them self from the presumptive presidential nominee when they are on the same side of the same coin?

  4. “Hello, my name is Mark Kirk. You may not know this, but for nearly six years, I’ve been your Senator. In that time, I’ve [jump cut] and now I’m asking you to send me back to Washington, so I can continue to [jump cut] I’m Mark Kirk and I approved this message.”

By exposing the third side of the coin.

  6. Part of his opposition is his own health. He needs to show people he’s not unable to do this job. That’s why you go this early I think.

  8. Our choices for Senate are the mirror image of the presidential race- both candidates are awful

  9. I think it’s odd that now, when I see him on TV, many times he’s in a wheel chair. Before, he wanted to show how “well” he was, now he’s trying to show he’s handicapped, just like Tammy? Too bad he already messed up his service by lying about it last time; she loses limbs, he got paper cuts.

  10. Curious that he’s spending the great majority on traditional broadcast. I’m assuming it’s mostly during the local news. That’s expensive.

You could get a lot more targeted bang for your buck on cable, especially in summer, when no one’s inside watching the news, anyway.

  11. When are we going to get some polls for this race? We haven’t seen anything in months. The last poll we had was an internal from Kirk that showed him down a few points.
