*** UPDATED x3 - House will return as well *** Senate to come back next Wednesday

Posted in:

* The Senate will return to Springfield for the first time this month. They’ll convene the 29th at noon.

No official word out of the House yet, but next Wednesday is the last Wednesday of the fiscal year and Speaker Madigan pledged to hold sessions every Wednesday, so it’s expected that he’ll bring his chamber back.

*** UPDATE 1 ***  House members say they’ve just received notice to return Wednesday by 11 o’clock in the morning.

*** UPDATE 2 *** Subscribers know lots more

The budget working group says they’re very close to the end of their work.

There’s one more meeting scheduled Thursday and lawmakers are hoping it’s the last.

Working group members say they’re almost ready to hand over their work on a stopgap budget to the leaders.

They say the plan would get the state through the end of the year, but there are just a few more issues the four tops and Governor will have to hammer out.

And…

Senate will be back in session on Wed. "The Senate Pres. remains hopefully optimistic that a bipartisan agreement is close at hand" #twill

  1. Waiting until the last day did not work out so well last month.

  2. That’s a big story, the Senate coming in for one day, and maybe the House, too.

    Conflict among personalities could happen!

I’m sure that media all over the state will pick up on it.

Not like that boring-yawner of a story about one million Illinoisans being cut off from services due to squeeze the beast.

One out of every 13 citizens impacted — who cares about a story like that?

  4. wordslinger,

Maybe a local affiliate can do a piece on what app the Reps use while on the floor or if one of the Senators parks outside the lines. What scandal!

Meanwhile, a rape crisis center closes it’s door and a youth homeless program goes under. Yawn….

  5. Is it soup yet? Looks promising. But then again, with our poisoned environment a feather falling could blow any potential agreement up.

If we are freeing the hostages, free them all and get it done.

If we are compromising on a deal, then compromise on everything and get it done.

Word, I’m shocked people do not care about the people who need the state’s social service programs. If it doesn’t affect them personally, they simply don’t care.

  17. My Republican State Senator and Representative have stated their opposition to a CPS bailout. Will Rauner wrongfoot them, like last year on school funding?

  18. I’m happy to hear Madigan, Cullerton & Rauner will be able to grace the state capital with their presence, and solve all of the state problems. Lets put out the welcome mats.

  19. “If we are freeing the hostages, free them all and get it done. ”

Madigan’s full budget freed all of the hostages, but it went nowhere in the Senate.

  20. Will they also stay in town for Thursday–the 30th? If so, any possibility they’re still going strong at 11:30 PM that night–just like the old days? (of June 30 budget due dates).

From your lips to the governor’s ear…
But I’m afraid he’s tone deaf. The budgeteers will agree, but the agreement will die when it gets to the 4 Tops…

  22. I want so much to be even a bit optimistic, but can’t do it. People on both sides are dug in on a few lingering issues and the atmosphere has been poisoned. The situation seems more ripe for last minute collapse than success. All I feel any more is disdain and contempt for all involved — not proud of that, wish it wasn’t so and would enjoy being proved wrong, but that’s just the way it is.

Comment by WIUOblivion Thursday, Jun 23, 16 @ 7:43 pm

  23. Hard to believe anything anything will happen. Rauner has spent money on all of those attack ads and mailers regarding the lack of budget; he’s not going to waste the money he’s invested by approving a budget,

  25. As others said, Rauner derailed it 5 minutes after catching wind of it. Until the GOP legislators get brave, nothing’s happening. Too late for me, I’m done with Illinois GOP.

  26. Rich. Did I get banned from commenting? Just curious. My comments about the stopgap budget poll might have been overly passionate, but I didn’t think they were incendiary. And my comment today was pretty harmless. Just curious. I do appreciate the work you do-it keeps me more informed than anywhere else on the Web. For that I thank you….Jim Stone

  27. Maybe if nothing else maybe the Governor can veto the SB2038 the FY16 stop gap for human service early that morning or before, and then see if the republicans will join the democrats to over ride the veto and buy more time for human service providers

  29. =CPS is the final hostage?=

    CPS is THE hostage.
CPS leads to CTU which leads to the governor’s union bustin’ turn-around w** dream.
This is what it’s all about.
    It’s the whole enchilada.
