  1. Hi, ck-

    I hope Madeupville’s mayor is there…

    “Thanks!”

  2. Largest City Represented?: I’ll put the line at 47,500.

Comment by Dee Lay Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:22 am

  3. So the big question for me is … do we settle for a stopgap budget OR force them to do a “real” budget instead of kicking the can for another 6 months. This seriously should have been over on July 1, 2015. Look at all of the victims … can we really wait? NOTHING has been solved or even close to being solved. They’re all fighting over a stopgap budget now.

Comment by BBG Watch Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:26 am

  4. I really, really hope that its just a bunch of blindfolded mayors swinging sticks at pinatas of Madigan and Cullterton filled with coins. Please please please.

Comment by SinkingShip Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:30 am

  5. Little Birdie News Reporting has an advance copy of Rauner’s remarks.

    Because Madigan!

  6. 1.4% - “Pass my budget and agenda or the cities get it.”

Comment by Huh? Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:35 am

  7. I assume some reporters will ask the mayors if they support use of the line item veto to craft a functioning budget?

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:36 am

  8. I can only hope another reporter asks for Rauner’s balanced budget. With a followup to the mayors to see if they have seen it.

Comment by Dee Lay Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:36 am

  9. Mayor of Rockford supports the Turnaround Agenda.

    Got it. Thanks.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:40 am

  10. 5 mayors? Naperville, Rockford, ? ? ?

Comment by Amalia Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:42 am

  11. Will one of the five mayors mention the $700 million appropriation bill and it’s live-saving effect on their municipalities?

Comment by Jocko Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:44 am

  12. Naperville - one of the richest suburbs out there!

Comment by BBG Watch Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:44 am

  13. “These are CEOs . . .”

No, they’re not. Once again, Rauner conflates running a business with governing. They are not the same. He should have learned that by now.

Comment by JoanP Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:44 am

  14. Because … Rahm!

Comment by BBG Watch Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:48 am

  15. This just in…

Rauner hates unions, blames unions… again.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:50 am

  16. Solution is the Trump/Rauner business guy solution = bankruptcy!

Comment by Norseman Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:52 am

  17. Why would any mayor want to stand behind Rauner? I would ask: What is the upside? None that I can see.

Comment by MrGrassroots Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:53 am

  18. Sen Dems may want to rethink that Madigan budget vote.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:55 am

  19. ===Sen Dems may want to rethink that Madigan budget vote.===

    100% true.

    Make Rauner veto everything.

It’s the only play to the ridiculous Raunerite politics.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:57 am

  20. He think’s Crain’s is collectivist? Wow!

Comment by AC Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:58 am

  21. The upside of supporting Rauner is that he could win this game or at least this inning.
But, what I don’t get is what is so different about the City schools and the CPS pensions vs the other programs across the State. Other than Rauner just doesn’t like unions.

Comment by Belle Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:58 am

  22. Rauner- Crain’s is a collectivist publication. Around the 32:00 mark. Rauner doesn’t seem pleased about the editorial interview…

    Comment by Anon221 Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 10:58 am

  23. So……bankruptcy is the cure for financial mismanagement?
Maybe if prison was the cure for financial mismanagement we would actually have less of it.

    Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:00 am

  24. “Why bankruptcy for CPS? Because Mayor Emanuel refused to support my Turnaround Agenda and force state Democrats to do the same. It’s that simple. It’s how I do business.”

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:00 am

  25. WHY AREN’T THE QUESTIONS MIKED? We can’t hear the questions. I wonder why?

Comment by Ms. SHEESH Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:01 am

  26. Governors own.

    They always do.

Crain’s knows that. That’s why Crain’s supported Rauner in his two elections, and why Crain’s is calling out Rauner now.

    Governors own.

    CEOs, maybe not.

    But… Governors own.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:01 am

  28. Kerry Lester@kerrylester
.@GovRauner “we will use every power of our office to make sure schools open on time.”

This from the guy who claims he’s been impotent in the face of the almighty Madigan.

Comment by LizPhairTax Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:05 am

  30. Rauner criticizes how CPS has been run but has the Rockford mayor behind him?

The Rockford schools have been in big trouble for a long time.

Comment by JS Mill Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:05 am

  31. This was about 2 things:

    1) trying to make sure the schools open this fall so he doesn’t have to take the blame

    and

    2) pushing for municipal / local government bankruptcy so he can try to move TRS liability to the local districts and then try to eliminate existing teacher’s pensions

Comment by RNUG Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:06 am

  32. perhaps the Governor would like to look at other governments about mismanagement. for example, Townships and mismanagement instead of a simple blame the City of Chicago meme. several in the NW suburbs spend way more on administrative costs for General Assistance than they should, in the case of Maine Township, an amount that is greater than the amount given out to those in need. how about those “CEOs”?

Comment by Amalia Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:07 am

  33. Adding … when you are vulture capitalist, the only tool you know is bankruptcy.

Comment by RNUG Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:08 am

  34. - RNUG -

You are absolutely correct on both points you make.

Problem for Rauner is that bankruptcy doesn’t have 60 and 30 (or 71 and 36), and Schoold don’t open, that’s on a governor. If it wasn’t on a governor, Rauner wouldn’t be the victim he pretends to be.

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:10 am

  35. It’s safe to say — for me, at least — that once Rauner starts labelling publications as ‘collectivist’ (as in Crain’s) — all bets are off and the loony train is, finally, free for all.

Comment by Formerly Known as Frenchie M Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:10 am

  36. Ah yes, that collectivist rag, Crain’s.

So if you criticize Rauner you have a choice. Be labeled as Corrupt or a Collectivist.

    Comment by illini97 Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:11 am

  37. =what is so different about the City schools and the CPS pensions vs the other programs across the State=

Governor’s trying to push municipal bankruptcy law through GA - states can’t file bankruptcy. With municipal bankruptcy he can bust ALL the unions. He’ll find a way to send state pensions back to municipalities and bust them, too.

    Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:14 am

  38. Rauner’s sounding more like Trump everyday. The only difference, when someone criticizes him (Crain’s, Chicago’s mayor) he calls them collectivists instead of losers. though he means the same thing.

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:15 am

  39. Is the p word still off the table

    Comment by Anon221 Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:16 am

  41. “Rauner would not say if agencies plan to go to court to keep $ flowing for public safety and IDOT after July 1.” Wait. So the State is going to sue ITSELF for funding?

Comment by DeKalb Guy Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:18 am

  42. So far, though, no one has been labelled a ‘corrupt collectivist’.

In Bruce’s world view, that’s pretty much the bottom.

The collectivist publication formerly known as ‘Crain’s Chicago Business’ is still — for now, at least — two rungs from the bottom.

The bottom rung is, I assume, for someone like Roberta Lynch? Karen Lewis? Rahm?

Comment by Formerly Known as Frenchie M Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:20 am

  43. Irony of Winnetka-

“Within its first 30 years, besides those strict controls, Winnetka’s philosophy congealed around one driving ideal: collectivism.”

    Comment by Anon221 Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:21 am

  44. Does he even know what Collectivist is? Derived from Collectivism: The principles or system of ownership and control of the means of production and distribution by the people collectively, usually under the supervision of a government.

Comment by Ms. SHEESH Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:22 am

  45. “CPS has created its own problems…”

with a little help from the 1995 Republican Governor and Republican GA.

    Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:26 am

  46. Jesus was a collectivist.

    Rauner attends Christian church services.

I am confused. (not really, just playing the “confused card” /s)

(btw, Paul Harvey once said he never saw a U-Haul behind a hearse. Lucky for Rauner, that would have been one big parade.)

Comment by cdog Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:26 am

  47. === Does he even know what Collectivist is? ===

The Raunerspeak definition is: A person or entity that disagrees with any part of the Rauner TA.

Comment by Norseman Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:28 am

  48. Speaking of dereliction of duty……

If the governor wants a a vote on a balanced budget so badly why doesn’t he just do his job and submit a balanced budget?

    Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:36 am

  49. –Rick Pearson@rap30
There’s that word again. #ILGov Rauner uses “collectivist” to describe Crain’s in rethinking it’s 2014 gov endorsement.–

    Dartmouth? Really?

Can any of the heroic-superstar-sycophants inform their boss that he’s making a fool out of himself by using words that he clearly has no clue as to their meaning?

I’m certainly no fan of the governor’s malignant agenda, but I’m embarrassed for the guy. Help him out, for crying out loud.

Comment by wordslinger Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:38 am

  50. “…balance of power between the taxpayers and the special interests…”

Does that include a balance of power between the taxpayers and corporate special interests?

    Comment by TinyDancer(FKA Sue) Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:42 am

  51. Future Crain’s Headlines:

Che Guevara, a role model for Illinois
Nationaling Caterpillar, lessons from Hugo Chávez
Introducing collectivist re-education curriculum in state business schools
A guide to public ownership of the means of production

Plus I hear they’ll have a new lifestyle section featuring the fashion genius of Mao Zedong

  52. == Kerry Lester@kerrylester
.@GovRauner “we will use every power of our office to make sure schools open on time.”==

The problem with this statement is he is only speaking of P-12. He wants the current higher education schools to close and sold to a for-profit school organization. He does not believe in MAP Grants.

  53. This guy is terribule in the word of Ser Charles. Where’s a Targaryen when you need them.

Comment by Jorge Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 11:54 am

  54. This needs to stop. Why bother with a stop gap to be in the stay spot in Dec. It’s madness….Seriously how does anything change, when he will not listen to sound views..labels everything a collective plot..how did he make any money.

Comment by not buying what you are selling Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 12:07 pm

  55. There are only 2 reasons why a Mayor would be standing with the Governor right now:

1.) They have the same political ideology as the Governor (Naperville)

2.) They want to declare bankruptcy so they can erase the mistakes they’ve made for over a decade (Rockford).

No other reason to stand with the Governor.

    Comment by Try-4-Truth Monday, Jun 27, 16 @ 12:31 pm
