Report: Rauner “can’t stand Trump”

Posted in:

* Hmmm

Sneed is told Gov. Bruce Rauner, who detests Trump, may be a no-show here — but he is monitoring what’s going on.

“He’s been calling,” an Illinois delegate who asked not to be identified said. “He can’t stand Trump. He doesn’t like the way he does business.”

Thoughts?

  1. ‘I teed your ball up for you, Governor.’
    ‘Thanks, CK.’

Comment by Hyberbolic Chamber Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:08 pm

  2. Rauner can’t stand Trump, but Bruce Rauner supports Donald Trump for President of the United States.

    “Every office”

    Right? Exactly right.

Rauner can’t stand Trump, but supports Trump.

    Rauner said so.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:08 pm

  3. 1.4% doesn’t like trump because trump has more money than 1.4%.

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:11 pm

  4. He doesn’t like the way he does business? Pot meet kettle……

Comment by Been there, done that Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:12 pm

  5. Good to know: “He (Rauner) can’t stand Trump. He doesn’t like the way he does business.”

If Rauner cannot stand Trump & the way he does business, Trump must be a really bad.

Comment by Mama Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:13 pm

  6. Trump’s talk about NATO this morning and yesterday sounds exactly like Rauner’s insistence on using ‘leverage’ to decimate higher education and social services over the past 18 months.

Of course, they don’t like each other. They conduct “business” in exactly the same way. I suspect they’re actually very much alike — in many, many ways.

  7. ===because trump has more money than 1.4%.===

Every developer I know lives from project to project. I bet you’re wrong.

Also, Trump is infamous for reneging on deals, not paying people, etc. I can see why BVR wouldn’t love the way he conducts business.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:14 pm

  8. Rauner’s thoughts on Trump are exactly my thoughts on Rauner.

Comment by illinoised Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:14 pm

  9. ?

Comment by Mama Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:14 pm

  10. Trump calls everyone liars, while Rauner calls everyone corrupt.

Obviously two totally different ways of doing business.

    Comment by A Jack Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:15 pm

  11. The kicker line was even better (go to the article). Of course it’s “state funds” and won’t go to help trumpet Trump. That’s Bruce’s “hard earned” dollars./s

    Comment by Anon221 Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:16 pm

  12. How much do you want to bet that Trump owes Rauner money?

Comment by Mama Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:17 pm

  13. Trump might be a millionaire, but I’ll bet dollars to donuts that he’s not got much more than that, and he lives on credit and royalties.

You do realize he only has small ownership stakes in so called Trump properties. Here’s paid for the naming rights. Scotland was an exception as was the failed casino. He’s learned to use other people’s money now.

Comment by Me too Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:18 pm

  14. Wow, i finally agree with Kind Bruce on something!

Comment by Spliff Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:18 pm

  15. “Also, Trump is infamous for reneging on deals, not paying people, etc.”

Umm, Rich, that sounds a bit more like inspiration for governing than something the Governor doesn’t love.

Comment by Juice Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:18 pm

  16. Cause he stole his schtick of running for office as a blue collar billionaire who can’t be bought by the special interests and is gonna shake things up?

Comment by hisgirlfriday Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:19 pm

  17. Also, if there’s reason not to vote for a ‘businessman’ with no political experience Mr. 1.4 percent is the most persuasive one.

Comment by Me too Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:20 pm

  18. ===that sounds a bit more like inspiration for governing===

    LOL

    Touche.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:20 pm

  19. Finally something Rauner and I can agree on.

Comment by mokenavince Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:20 pm

  20. Trump won’t release income tax and Rauner only released part. I bet both are worth less than they like to claim. Trump is not worth 10 billion.Rauner last claimed 500 million

Comment by illinois manufacturer Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:22 pm

  21. Raunering?

Bruce Rauner, Illinois’ Carhartt wearin’ governor made it clear that he and Donald Trump are a “don’t invite ‘em” item.

    To wit,

Rauner didn’t go to Cleveland to fete Trump and crown the King of the Boardroom the GOP Nominee.

Rauner did make clear at Illinois’ own GOP Convention he wants Republican wins in federal offices, “Every one”, including President. What gives?

Is Rauner doing an End Run to seem like he’s on “every side” of The Donald?

Sneedless to say, Gov. Rauner is being as clear as mud.

    Natch.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:23 pm

  22. == Also, Trump is infamous for reneging on deals, not paying people, etc. I can see why BVR wouldn’t love the way he conducts business. ==

    This is understandable.

Of course, the irony of him being against that, while the State for which he is Governor does not pay particular businesses and seeks to renege (well, renege further) on its pension deals, is rich indeed.

Comment by thunderspirit Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:25 pm

  23. I suspect somewhere along the road Trump snubbed Rauner professionally and he can’t let it go.

  24. Translation: “People who brag about being rich and smart irritate those of us who are.”

  28. One reason and only one reason to like Trump

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:41 pm

  29. When he says “the way he does business” does he mean his real estate business, or the way he practices his politics of division and name-calling?

Comment by Just Me Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:43 pm

  30. Their differences are legit. You guys are mistakenly lumping them together because you don’t completely understand how Trump and Rauner are polar opposites regarding how they got rich.

Rauner is like a pawn broker and Trump is like a casino owner. Completely different animals.

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 1:51 pm

  31. I give Rauner this. Better to be mute on questions of Trump support than hem and haw like Kirk and now Kinzinger have.

  32. Rauner should vow to join Whoopie, Miley, Rosie, Al, et al in leaving the Country if Trump is elected. Actually, he should vow to leave even if Trump doesn’t win.

    Comment by Cubs in '16 Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 2:06 pm

  33. Rauner can’t stand Trump?

    No wonder.

Trump believes in a government of the rich for the rich, but Rauner believes in the reverse.

  34. Maybe if he were to ditch “Trumpforce One” and fly in on a trashcan helicopter?

Comment by PENSIONS ARE OFF LIMITS Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 2:29 pm

  35. BVR’s just mad because a humiliating loss by a hysterically unqualified rich white business bro ruins the carefully-constructed Rauner 2020 campaign fantasy we’re paying so dearly to sustain.

Comment by crazybleedingheart Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 2:42 pm

  36. I can finally, unequivocally agree with one statement made by our governor.

  37. No matter what Trump would be better than Hillary, heck AL Cape would be better than her

  38. Meant AL Capone

Comment by Better than hillary Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 2:59 pm

  39. who cares what Rauner’s personal impression of Trump is? The only thing that matters here, the only thing, is what Rauner does about it. And the answer to that is: he supports Trump for President.

All the rest of this conversation from Sneed is a distraction and a waste of time. Sneed traffics in gossip and innuendo. That is the opposite of governing and leadership.

Comment by Pawn Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 2:59 pm

  40. Even Michael Moore thinks Trump will win

Comment by Better than hillary Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:01 pm

  41. Better Than Hillary-

You’re saying a lying, misogynistic, worryingly narcissistic, ignorant buffoon with zero political experience and a shady business background would be better than a former U.S. Senator and U.S. Secretary of State? Please.

Comment by Spock Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:10 pm

  42. I’m worried what will happen when Gov Rauner calls President Trump to ask for a disaster declaration after a bad tornado or flood event. I think Trump is vindictive enough not to take the call…

Comment by Anotheretiree Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:15 pm

  43. Rauner made his money studing targets and being informed about his work and his decisions.

Trump is intellectualy lazy, does little prep work and waits for others to bail him out of his messes. He has only done well because he started with money.

Comment by Ghost Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 3:16 pm

  44. Pot, kettle.

  50. With Hillary you get Bill, the only President to balance the budget in the last 50 years. No wonder so many Republicans are afraid of her. I am looking forward to Bill’s speech next week. It will blow away any of the speeches this week.
