While U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is running ads criticizing GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) continues to refrain from voicing support for Trump, GOP Congressman Rodney Davis (R-13) signed onto the Trump campaign’s new agricultural advisory committee.
Davis, who is serving his Congressional second term, is a member of the U.S. House Agriculture committee and Subcommittee Chair of the Bio Tech Committee.
The formation of the board represents Trump’s endorsement of these individuals’ diverse skill sets and ideas that can improve the lives of those in agricultural communities, a campaign statement said Tuesday.
Mr. Trump said, “The members of my agricultural advisory committee represent the best that America can offer to help serve agricultural communities. Many of these officials have been elected by their communities to solve the issues that impact our rural areas every day. I’m very proud to stand with these men and women, and look forward to serving those who serve all Americans from the White House.”
Davis has only token opposition in the general election. That district of his is loaded with college campuses and Trump’s numbers are absolutely horrible with young people. So if the Democrats had recruited a decent candidate, the incumbent may not have been able to stick his neck out this far.

Very sad that Rodney is embracing this candidate while several of his colleagues are distancing themselves from the questionable antics of Trump.

The stink of Trump is going to be hard to wash off, even for Davis. I’m not saying he’s put a ceiling on his political career, but depending on how badly this campaign goes for Team Trump, anything (bad) is possible.

Agree that Davis has only token opposition, but what if Gill stays off the ballot? I wonder if a generic Democrat in that district could give a run at a Trump supporting Republican?

There are some very big Ag issues that need debating on the national stage but Trump is the very last person I’d want to see doing so. So, like with many other issues, Trump is the biggest obstacle to this country’s moving forward on anything of substance this election. Terrible opportunity cost, this Trump chump. Very convenient for the big Ag industrial interests.

I’m a Democrat, but I always like to cross over and vote for a moderate Republican or two in the November election. I was leaning toward voting for Davis this time because I think he’s done a decent job with constituent services and voting the 13th District’s economic interests.
But with this stunt he just lost my vote. Now and possibly forever.

Dear Donald, As your new Ag advisor, let me give you some advice. Scrap that idea of renegotiating that TPP thing. The heck with the steel or furniture industries. Us farmers, with our subsidized grain , make out like bandits. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll flip-flop like Obama did.

This is what Republicans do . . . they stick with even the worst things about their party whenever they can get away with it. This is why the future of the GOP itself needs to be called into question. Let’s hope Illinois Democrats make Davis own this lock, stock and barrel.

Ag issues matter, are generally poorly understood, and however and by whom they get explored and discussed on the national stage is good for Illinois farmers and our food production businesses. Such an important aspect of our state’s economy should not be fodder for the vituperative partisanship it is receiving here.

Davis sounds like a buffoon. Not surprising though, Illinois has one of the worst congressional delegations in the nation.
