I worked at Granite City Steel with a crew of steamfitters to pay for school at SIU. It was hard work—a good job—and it taught me a lot. That’s why I fought against Governor Rauner’s devastating budget. But Washington’s forgotten how hard you work. Congress gives Wall Street billionaires tax cuts and trade deals that ship our jobs overseas and we get higher tax bills and pink slips. I’m CJ Baricevic and I approve this message because I’ll fight for working families—not Washington special interests.

The St. Clair County ruling stated workers could receive their entire paychecks without a state budget in place. Circuit Judge Robert LeChien issued that ruling. Attorney C.J. Baricevic argued on behalf of union workers.

Baricevic ad makes no sense considering our attorneys were in court with him in support of paying the workers.

gee, didn’t rauner support paying state employees in the face of opposition from AG Madigan. If so, it would appear that Mr. B is being less than forthright. just smart politics, though.

The “Rauner guy” response makes no sense. Baricevic is talking about the unbalanced budget with deep cuts Rauner proposed. It’s a bit of a non sequitur in the ad, but he hasn’t contradicted himself. When that ruling was issued, Illinois had no budget and didn’t until a couple of months ago. So, just because Baricevic argued for workers to get paid doesn’t mean he also supported the Rauner budget.
Spin grasping at straws because their guy is unpopular in the place he should be most popular.

Ask anyone who has ran against Mike Bost in the last 25 years how it worked out for em. This ad will only serve to record the fact that C.J. Baricevic once ran for office.

It makes perfect sense because this is the new ‘political-speak’ that you’ve steeped us in. Mention any one thing that is bad and relate it to your opponent. In the strictest terms, everything correlates with everything so you’re not technically lying. That was the entirety of Rauner’s campaign and he’s still barking that dog today. Quit whining, Rauner Guy. You made this bed, pal.

I think it’s great that CJ was part of the legal team that sued the governor when Rauner tried to stop payments to state employees. I hope he brings that same leadership for Southern Illinois to Congress next year.

Don’t think this would sell in the burbs or Peoria, but maybe Paducah is craving a message like this. Hard to rate pass/fail because the area is far from where I am. Decent production values, but kind of a mishmash message strategy. Blending state and federal offices is always disturbing to me. Trying to draw Rauner into this message might have been to mixed up a strategy. Or not. I don’t live in Paducah, so I’m not sure.
Let’s call it a possible “pass”.

I feel ya, Rauner guy. Considering every mailer I get from the Republican party doesn’t make any sense either.
If the Guv wants to bank roll mailing campaigns to tell me about how his candidates are going to both refuse to raise taxes and balance the budget, I think it’s probably okay to observe that the Guv vetoed the budget in the first place.

I think it shows the genuine him. I met him first day of moving in at SIU-C. I like that I would have a Rep that came from SIU-C and knows our issues here. Go Salukis!

CJ seems like someone who will fight for the common man. He fights for teachers and state employees! While the current Illinois governor constantly attacks state employees with Bost and Bryant not fighting for their constituents but voting against them! We need someone like CJ!

Rauner didn’t fight to get state workers paid. He fought to keep himself out of a trap set by Madigan. If the judge had not ordered state workers be paid, then they would’ve had to lock us out. In doing so, that would’ve forced Rauner to accept a budget with Madigan without him getting the anti-union reforms he wants. Rest assured, if it didn’t involve that, he couldn’t have given a crap.

I think the ad is okay. I think the anti-Rauner, pro-worker message probably works for him. But the Rauner line was such a throw away - and it didn’t fit with the rest of the ad- you had to squint to hear it.
